The middle fingers etc. were removed by the Japanese studio because in Japan DBZ Kai was aired at a 10am morning timeslot, while the original Dragonball Z aired at 8pm back in the day. When translating Kai to English for Adult Swim and the English DVDs/Blurays the English studio (Funimation) didn't really care about the timeslot and therefore kept the cursing etc (except when it aired on Nicktoons), but they couldn't undo the middle-finger censorship already done by the Japanese version of Kai.

Yes are there some incorrect moments? absolutely but the funimation dub in specific was so passionate! I CAN go on and on with iconics VA moments from the funimation dub. Gohan turning ssj2, every majin vegeta rant, goku's speeches to gohan "use the pain of loss to gain more power" omg i can go on with how perfect the funimation dub is and you see this when new dbz fans on youtube react to it. They go crazy over bruce faulconers music & some of the really great quotes. It will always be this girls number one DB but i do love japanese, french & the espanol dub.

2023-11-08 04:31:51 +0000 UTCExactly it's one of the few things annoying about Kai, they're trying to make dbz appeal more towards children but us long time dbz fans know dragon ball has always been known in Japan as an adult, comedy martial arts anime. Even in the toonami days dragon ball was so heavily edited to appeal towards kids. Silly choice to take out middle fingers but leave perverted humor & cursing lol

2023-11-07 23:43:50 +0000 UTCPre-Kai dub is unbearable to me. I'll give you that Fusion Reborn is one of the more tolerable early dub films, and the Nathan Johnson score isn't too distracting as other DBZ film scores but the rust is all too apparent for me.

It is basically a what if of what could have happened if Gohan defeated Buu, thus Goku and Vegeta never came back and Vegeta's soul is lost forever in hell. It is a surprisingly touching send off to Vegeta's character if that had been the case, and is non-canon so it's safe to watch.
