Ft Independence was originally built as The Castle in 1634, It was abandoned to the colonists during the Revolution and today is a state park located in Boston Harbor and the one in Fallout 4 looks the same as the real fort

The sole survivor(fallout 4s player character) has the option to save the minutemen and become the new general and rebuild them into a force to be reckoned with. However in the Storytellers version of the Sole survivor they have them go down a darker route as they do with most there characters.(Keep a eye open for a Vault 111 Jumpsuit towards the end of the series) The last stand for the Minutemen in game is in the area of Lexington and concord which is where the first shots of the Revolutionary war were fired. The synth are basically slaves to the institute the story teller sort of left that out. This is the main reason the Railroad tries to free the synths. Not all of them want there mind wiped because of the people they meet in the Railroad but they wipe them anyways as a precaution against the Institute, Glory is the only one we know of who kept her memory and its a bit of a controversial subject within the railroad itself
