The movies were in fact dubbed before Kai and performances according to actors were dated. The only relatively subjective bit of the comment was that the movies were better dubbed than the show proper, which is a compliment, so I don’t exactly see your point that I’m slandering anything.

This is mostly for the games though, or else they will question why there is a tailed pink panther there.

You needn't even take my word for it, Schemmel and Sabat themselves amongst others have admitted how dated their performances are. Considering they started with DBZA, I feel like Ken and Beth deserve to have the best and most accurate viewing experience from here on and letting them know these things are crucial, I think.

But, yeah, I wouldn’t mind you guys watching all the episodes plus the movies to compare them. I’ve been enjoying the episodes and they don’t feel like they drag on too much. I’m on 18, I believe, and have enjoyed myself a lot, so far. I get where you’re coming from, though.

2023-12-20 06:08:50 +0000 UTCAbout that Yu Yu Hakusho suggestion you guys got on the last reaction… The 4 main characters voices are the same as Raditz (MC), Vegeta/Piccolo/Yamcha/ETC, Tien and Android 17. Oh, and Frieza’s OG Funi voice actor plays a character. Goku’s in there somewhere, too lol. One Piece is similar. Kid Gohan Kai (MC), Pic/Veg, Krillin, F. Trunks, Chiaotzu, etc. Sorry, that’s just always been interesting to me. Part of the reason I started One Piece. Oh, and Yu Yu Hakusho has an abridged show by Lanipator, as well.

2023-12-19 21:05:04 +0000 UTCGlad to see you are enjoying it! A bit of context regarding the movies: Most of the DBZ movies have been dubbed many decades ago, before kai even. Back then there was a difference in characterization. The DBZ dub made Goku a little too heroic, a little too righteous, but as you have seen in Kai, Goku is way more free spirited and just wants to have fun. You know, it's Goku. Kai is more loyal to the manga, so you have seen the most accurate portrayal of Goku so far. Even though the movies are impossible to be canon, the franchise likes to think of the story like it has two continuities or timelines. DBZ/DBZ Movies and DBGT are like one path of the story, which eventually leads to Xeno Goku, the most powerful version of Goku until the revival. But then the franchise revived and we got another continuity: DBKai/DB Super which now leads to Capsule Corp Goku, the most powerful version of Goku from then on. So in a sense, both continuities are canon. The franchise loves to take everything into account, so it helps to think of the entire of dragon ball as two main timelines, led by two somewhat different Goku with two different origins (This is another can of worms. DBZ/DBZ Movies and DBGT follow the Bardock Special while DBSuper follows DB Minus). We also don't know what the incoming DB Daima is going to do to the franchise. This will help make sense of the franchise a bit, specially if you guys ever plan to get into the games like DBZ Kakarot or Xenoverse. If this sounds convoluted is because it is! You don't have to worry about that though. So far you are following the canon continuity, which is great. It's only when looking back at other parts of the franchise like Xenoverse where everything gets muddier.

2023-12-19 20:45:13 +0000 UTCYuuup. That's Goku. Was a pleasure to go through Kai with you guys, I'm glad you guys seem to have enjoyed it. Just for clarity, the DBZ movies are non-canon or kind of "What If's" for DBZ proper so they're just fun little side stories. Assuming you'll be watching them in dub, they were dubbed quite a while before Kai so you may notice some changes in VA's or, shall we say, "interesting" performances and deliveries but fortunately the movies seem to have better voice acting for the most part compared to the original dubbed show. As for the two moves you plan to intersplice with Super those ARE obviously canon since they, as you know, get adapted in Super's storyline. Either way I hope you continue to enjoy Dragon Ball, and who knows, by the time you've finished Super, the next series may already have started.

Others have probably already told you this, but events in super have somewhat negated how DBZ ended. You can still watch GT at some point if you're interested. There's a DBZ ova that came out a few years before super was announced that you can check out too. But the Remaining movies are also gonna be a fun time. Bojack Unbound Broly: Second coming Bio Broly Fusion Reborn and Wrath of the Dragon Then the OVA before the latest movies, DragonBall the Return of Son Goku and Friends. All these come before Battle of Gods, and Resurrection F Keep in mind that the OVA and Super happen 9 years or so before the end of DBZ and the start of GT. But the insane power scaling continues to make all these a fun watch. You're also joining the fandom in time for the next big DragonBall game. We'll have to get that one added to the play list.
