Can someone explain to me why they don’t remember the Pilaf Gang? I’ve been watching Super recently (didn’t rewatch BoG until the reaction) and noticed that they didn’t recognize Pilaf and the gang until I was much deeper in the show. Bulma acts as if she’s never seen them before, and Pilaf/Shuu are basically the same lol.

Pilaf did actually make several reappearances throughout Dragonball, although usually as more of a side-quest villain that just popped up at random times. He and his goons encountered Goku and attempted to fight him in a giant robot (because of course they did), and he easily defeated them. I think that was their last appearance. They were one of the last opponents Goku "fought" before the timeskip.

Honestly I like that Goku lost and admitted defeated instead of outright winning. And then Beerus and Whis revealing that Beerus was holding back a lot of his true power during the fight aswell. It gives Goku and Vegeta a goal, and doesn’t make them the strongest in the show anymore which I think is interesting, especially with what’s to come, extremely excited to continue this journey with yall!

Oh yeah I completely forgot, there was a DBZ special about Vegeta's brother Tarble. Although, it was mostly about Goten and Trunks. Since he was mentioned in the movie, MAYBE he's canon?

There is some sense of humor in this movie they were rightfully lost on. There are a lot of easter eggs in this movie, little nods to the original dragon ball series, easter eggs on future dragon ball super & some japanese pop culture jokes. The "Pop" star Whis kept referring to is a joke on the fact that the japanese voice actor for Whis, who is voiced by Masakazu Morita. Masakazu is a pop star as well as an voice actor in Japan. So a lot of jokes will go over your heads rightfully so. This movie was big for Japan, so big that the Japanese government helped finance this movie. This movie was also created because the live action hollywood movie "Dragon ball Evolution" offended Akira Toriyama so much that he decided to create this movie. lol crazy fact!

So a quick side note on the Pilaf Gang Pilaf, Mai, and Shu are Goku & Gang's first villains ever. They were defeated by Goku turning into a Great ape for the first time. Since Goten looks exactly like a Kid Goku. They mistook Goten for Goku. In a unseen retcon, it was revealed that Pilaf and the Gang gathered the dragon balls in the Android Saga and used the wish to return to their youth, which... turned them into babies. Since then they've grown into children, although they retain their memories of being adults. (Hence why Mai says she's turning 41) They're very fun characters and it's nice to see a return to the more goofy hijinxs of the original Dragon Ball. Edit - And you picked up on it, just got that part of the video! Aaaah, now I feel like a dork.

Beerus and Whis are by the far the best additions to the series from Super. I really appreciate how Beerus isn't ever really portrayed as evil, just that he's simply doing his job as a Destroyer, he's the Yang to Supreme Kai's Yin. Sure he's kind of an asshole, (I mean he destroyed half a planet from sheer distaste) but he also has a bit of a fun side to him which is quite refreshing. I also like how Goku's personality is on full display, since it makes perfect sense that's he conflicted on his God form, since a huge overarching theme dating back to OG Dragon Ball, is to always seek self-improvement and to better oneself, enjoying life in the process. Knowing there's a stronger opponent but being unable to match their power without the help of others is totally something that would bother Goku and I'm glad they call attention to that. Something else from OG Dragon Ball, as others have pointed out, is yeah those 3 goobers, (the Pilaf Gang) are the very first "villains" from OG Dragon Ball. They were mostly gag villains (fitting in with the more gag-orientated story being told), and were never really much of a threat. And now they're kids, because why not? Really glad y'all enjoyed this movie, DBS has got even more greatness yet to come!

So a few important differences between the movie and the anime series. (The movie was the better choice, the anime drags on the fight and there are A LOT of animation issues). The anime series mentions how Goku and Beerus clashing fist had the side effect of almost destroying the universe. THE DANG UNIVERSE. A SIDE EFFECT. The anime also demonstrated how the God form has healing properties. Goku got a puncture near his heart and his body healed it. When Goku fought Beerus in his SSJ 3 form, Goku actually managed to dodge one of his attacks out of instinct. But most importantly, Goku bit Beerus tail. The fourth antagonist he bites. Overall one of the better movies that DBZ has made. Can’t wait to see you guys check out the series.

As mentioned throughout there introduction the Emperor was one of Goku and Bulma's original villains when goku was still a child and barely stronger then your average muscle bound human and it would end up being how they meet Yamcha. the emperor and the other 2 with him would constantly try and track down the dragon balls at the same time as the Goku and his little gang but then after goku destroyed there castle when transforming into a great ape they never made a reappearance and the show went on to introduce The Red Ribbon Army the group behind the Androids and subsequently Cell.
