Honestly I think you guys might have been better off watching DBZ Kai (Saiyan through Cell Sagas) since the contrast between Goku there and in Super is even more striking. I'm not saying Goku was ever book-smart or a genius and was never goofy but DB Super Goku almost rivals the abridged version of Goku. ----

You'll find very quickly especially with the Original Dragon ball series that Bulma is the Tony Stark of anime. Goku is of one mind he only focuses on light, which is intentional btw it's a buddhist belief which is all done on purpose. Goku is based off of a lot of Buddhist principles. However i dislike the comparisons people make to Goku to Superman a lot of my friends do that lol because they're not the same imo. Goku has actually worked for his power for so many years. Although there is an argument to be made that the "DBS" version of Goku is a more amplified version of them that the "DBS" writers wrote incorrectly. Some of us fans argue that to this day & even Akira Toriyama wasn't fully happy with this version of Goku in certain episodes. OG Dragon ball Bulma's IQ is always on the forefront & early dbz vs Dragon Ball Super, Bulma is a genius & you can't think Dragon ball & not Bulma. This is why the anime community holds Bulma so highly. I personally like this season but it's the next season that is my favorite i can't wait! And Bethany is even more adorable with a little bit of wine courage 🤗

If I had to describe the difference between Whis/Beerus and Vados/Champa. Whis feels analogous to an old family butler who raised Beerus as a kid and they've got a deep affection for each other. And he feels free to speak his mind and poke fun because he knows Beerus will tolerate it. Vados feels like a wetnurse who doesn't work for Champa, but works for his family and wishes she had a different job. And she feels free to speak her mind and poke fun because she knows Champa can't fire her.

Yeah in the DBS anime Goku might seem annoying and bit too dumb at times but in the Dragonball super manga Goku seems like his usual self as Toriyama checks and approves every manga chapter before it releases whereas with the Dragonball super anime because the anime was quite ahead of the DBS manga when the anime was airing, toei animation couldn't follow the manga and Toei where just left with vague bullet points from toriyama summarising what should happen in the show which lead to Toei's different writing staff for different episodes making Goku inconsistent especially with Toriyama not being there to supervise and oversee the DBS anime and is one of the reasons why the DBS anime and DBS manga are two different continuities
