Destiny 2 Season of the Deep Part 1

So the dialog that you were hearing from Xivu Arath around the middle part of the video was from the dungeon activity that came with the season. She stored the audio logs in calcified fragments just like Oryx did on the Dreadnought. The dungeon is called Ghosts of the Deep and it is known amongst the player base as the longest and arguably the most difficult dungeon to complete as each encounter has a lot of mechanics that need to be completed to advance and the two bosses for the last two encounters have enormous pools of health. The last two encounters have hive guardians as bosses whom we've actually seen before; Echtar Shield of Savathun (The Taken King DLC as Echtar Sword of Oryx) and Simmumah Ur Nokru The Lucent Necromancer, whom we kill when we go to kill Nokris in the Warmind dlc as an unassuming wizard. It was a pretty big reveal when we made it to the third encounter as we see Simmumah trying to have a hive ghost resurrect Oryx as a Hive Guardian as we never heard about Oryx's body after we killed him. But this also showed us how desperate the Lucent Hive were getting at this point without Savathun's guidence. As for Xivu Arath, she seems to be having an existential crisis of sorts based on the audio from the calcified fragments. The darkness has seemingly failed her siblings, her brother was killed by the Light in the form of the bomb logic and her sister has defected to the Light. To be honest I don't blame her for feeling this way as she and her siblings have existed before our solar system even formed, all they have known is the darkness and it has failed both of her siblings. She's all alone with no brother or sister, but she feels that there's no turning back at this point, either she succeeds or the darkness fails her too, like it did with both of her siblings.

Ah, okay. Interesting that isn't explored more in the game because seems like a pretty interesting and relevant bit of info 🙂

😂

Ah okay so they did recast him. I thought I read somewhere that he wasn't being recast. Though having Keith David take up the mantel is a great choice and I'm sure he will do that character and Lace's legacy justice.

So something interesting about Ahsa that isn’t really explored outside of the lore is that she is a proto-worm. You know the Worm Gods that corrupted the Hive Gods and the entire Hive species? The Worm God Xol that we defeated in Warmind? She’s a member of their species who refused to side with The Witness/Sword Logic and get corrupted. That’s what Sloane means when she said the Witness came for her species too. The “bond” she shares with Sloane seems to be a more mutually beneficial version of the bond the Hive share with the Worm Gods. As far as we know Ahsa is the only non-corrupted proto-worm left in the universe. She fled while the other Worms fought and she eventually settled on Titan. All the way back in the Red War we could actually see the silhouette of Ahsa on Titan so it was amazing to see her in Season of the Deep!

I love how they capitalized all of Xivu Arath’s dialogue in subtitles. Even having a conversation is a war to her.

This season answered a lot of the questions we had during lightfalls campaign. At the same time it’s sad as this was the last time we’ll get to hear Lance Reddick as Zavala. Since Bungie wasn’t done with his story, they ultimately had to recast him to Keith David. However all of Lance’s lines are still in game and will never be removed. The community made their peace with it and I would say most people liked Keith’s performance. In that time however the community made tributes and would stand next to Zavala in the tower saluting, taking a knee, etc. It was a bittersweet time for everyone.
