I hope you guys check out her second Story Quest. It is one of my absolute favorites and really helps to flesh out her character even more

I find it really interesting how, despite being one of the Archons who's most directly involved in ruling her nation, Ei is so ignorant of the world and how it has changed over the centuries. She pictured Eternity as a nation that would never change, with a landscape and customs that would stay the same forever, not realizing that, as long as the nation continues to exist and its people are proud to be of that nation, it will constitute a form of Eternity, especially if that nation becomes unique in its own way over time. Inazuma is based on Japan, and while it bears similarities to Liyue that is based on China, it's also quite unique, and the fact that it's isolated from the rest of the world can be felt as you play there. In Mondstadt, Liyue, or any other nation, you're still somehow connected to the other nations, and you'll find numerous places from which you can see the territory of other nations and even reach them quite easily. While you can see some elements of the continent from Inazuma (for example, the Jade Chamber once you've done the Interlude Archon Quest in which it is rebuilt after you've finished Liyue's main quest), you're still surrounded by a vast ocean that stretches as far as the eye can see. Speaking of being isolated from the continent, a little bit of trivia that I've learned by delving more into the untold lore (lore that is only said in books found in the game, or in item flavor text) : while the sentence "The world of Teyvat" is often used, Teyvat is in fact just the name of the continent that regroups the seven nations. In fact, a few optional places that you can visit in the game, such as Enkanomiya, do not count as parts of Teyvat due to being situated far below the continent, outside of the power of the Seven. The rest of the world is simply referred to as "The Dark Sea", though it includes some landmass. It's outside of the jurisdiction of the Seven, and it is said that some of the Gods who survived the Archon War but were defeated took refuge beyond Teyvat, in various parts of the Dark Sea, though they gradually died for unknown reasons. There is another lore fact about The Dark Sea, but it includes informations about something that you'll learn about way later in the game (in fact, near the current end of the story, in Natlan), though it's something that is present since the beginning of the game.

Now Ei sees how the world truly functions. I believe the phrase that best fits this journey is: “The more things change, the more they stay the same” Human ambition, ingenuity, and just their nature in general will always adapt to their surroundings, but some aspects always remain constant against the tides of time. A deity like her needed to understand this and see just how much her people needed protection, but not stasis. Gotta say though. When the duel was going on, I’d think the two of you were more ruthless with what you were expecting to happen. Wondering if the guy would cry. Hoping Ei would stomp on his hand as he reached for his blade. You’ve been watching too many western action movies lately? Eastern duels, especially honorable ones, tend to have the opponents face each other always ready.
