The Legend of Korra S1:E12 Full Reaction

So I know I am late to leaving this comment but something to note about Korra's arc for the start of book 2 is: She was handed the avatar state on a Silver Platter Now Aang did this so Korra could restore the Bending to people like Beifong who needed their bending back since it was a skill Aang knew how to do and not Korra (even if Korra did have the ability to Energybend) but as you will see having access to such tremendous power without having to unlock the chakras like Aang did will result in some consequences in Book 2... People will say it is "Bad Character writing" but I think it is the exact opposite... I think giving a hormonal teenager ultimate power without her having to earn it will result in much worse than the Korra we got in Book 2 so Book 2 Korra is perfectly in line with how her character would act giving her confidance high after coming out of the Amon crisis without any net loss and with an Avatar State and Airbending Unlocked without her really having to earn either... Any semblence of character development that she could have gained from being humbled from losing her bending is lost and Book 2 deals with the fallout of this I think book 2 is overhated (even if it does crawl a bit to get to the big mid season 2 parter) but if you keep an open mind it is not as bad as everyone says... I honestly find myself returning to it more than Book 1 tbh...

Air is in fact not the strongest element, it falls behind in several categories it is however the best for speed/travel. It is a very quick and diverse element but bad at a lot of things. For example tenzin could last a while against the mechs but couldn't really destroy them, the earth benders basically carried against them because earth by far has the most destructive capability by a mile. The creators themselves say that the elements are all balanced so the fan theory is wrong IMO. to address a few of your points, Amon was simply that good of a fighter, people would notice his subtle blood bending because their bodies would move on their own, it's a good theory but he didn't use it when fighting mako and tenzin. Tenzin was the only council member at the time that was a fighter/could bend. The rest were just normal old people. Tenzin didn't do much besides hitting the mechs with air but was unable to stop them, he has the best mobility due to air bending so dodging is easier for them hence why he lasts long in fights. Aang and villagers build a massive dip to catch the lava running down, blowing exccess lava from that isn't particularly a sign of power just element, air is 100% useless in pushing back lightning for example or a rock slide that's big enough. Monk Gyatso was cracked but sokka's sword master fought during the comet and did not die and he has 0 bending whatsoever. If airbending was superior they wouldn't have been wiped out, monk gyatso was obviously an exception because if they were all that good they wouldn't have lost. It's like saying all fire benders are on the level of iroh

So the way Korra beat Amon in a direct fight using nothing but airbending reminded me of some lore. There's this headcanon/theory in the fandom (not mine). Even though the four bending arts are supposed to be naturally balanced out, so that it is only the skill that determines victory, air actually seems like the most powerful element. It probably has to do with two things - one, it is always in abundance, unlike water or even earth. Firebenders can create their own fires, yes, but less so in a really cold environment (remember "coolers" from "The Boiling Rock" prison in ATLA?). Air is unaffected by any of this. The other thing is that even though we, the audience, see the air gusts and currents made by airbenders, it is reasonable to say that characters in the story don't actually see them - the air doesn't become less transparent when it's moving. So an airbending attack is very hard to see coming. There are several examples of this: - Amon easily beats any bender that he comes across without all but subtle use of bloodbending. The only times he is clearly outmatched is when pitted against an airbender - he was soundly defeated by Korra, and failed to stand against Tenzin (again, he can't see the attack coming) - Tenzin was the only council member not cought by the equalists in their attacks on the council - Tenzin held his own against 5 mecha-tanks for longer then any other character - In a first season ATLA episode, Aang has deflected a lava flow from a volcanic eruption with nothing but airbending - Monk Gyatso's corpse found next to corpses of a dozen firebenders, suggesting that he single-handedly defeated an entire platoon of them WHILE THEY WERE POWERED BY THE FRICKING SOZIN'S COMET There are many other examples. In fact, it seems like the only thing that kinda restrains air's superiority, is the restraint usually practiced by airbenders. As in, they are largely non-violent, pacifistic, and prefer to dodge, evade and avoid attacks as much as possible.

😯😱 hadn't even crossed our mind she was thinking of ending her life

Bethany and Ken

Still felt it was solid even not knowing about the plans for just one season. Too many times shows try to drag stuff on to get more seasons and then the seasons start to drag.

Bethany and Ken

Forklift certified 😂 That's the dream girl right there 😜🥰

Bethany and Ken

Think it worked out in their favor. They were good villains but having that wrap and a new story begins is pretty refreshing 🙂

Great season for Korra, and honestly my favorite moment of the episode was seeing Aang show up and restoring Korra's bending powers. It's always a good moment when Aang shows up. My top 5 in this order would be Korra, Asami, Pabu/Naga, Bolin and Mako. Such fantastic characters, and I look forward to seeing how you guys react to their journeys in the next season

It is heavily implied that Korra was thinking of discontinuing her life when it zoomed over the edge of the cliff. Thinking that she lost the thing that made her the Avatar and there for couldn't do her Avatar duties so she thought it would probably be better for the world for her to reincarnate into a new Avatar. I like the darker themes of this series as the writers had more of the freedom to do it, that and the original audience were all grown up at this point. Later the series aired online instead of on tv giving the writers some more freedoms for things. Anyway it was fun rewatching this with you guys. Look forward to the next season.

Logan Prime

Yeah the creators didnt know if Nickoloaden would green light another season so they decided to wrap this season with a nice bow to not leave a cliff hanger.

Logan Prime

Congrats on finishing season 1! I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. I've watched many Korra reactions, and many people criticize the ending, saying how convenient everything ended in the show. It shows how little research people put in and that people compare this to ATLA despite commenters informing them why season 1 ended the way it did. As someone else mentioned, this was meant to be a 1 season spin-off, so everything had to wrap up like a series. It was not until after this show aired that the creators knew Nickelodeon approved a season 2. It was a bit of a mess, and you will probably have noticed some differences when you began watching season 2. Seasons 3 and 4 had more time for development, but that does not mean that Nickelodeon did not somehow meddle in the show again. More on that when you get to those seasons. Regardless, I am looking forward to your reaction for the next season.

Would love for you guys to react to Psycho-Pass or Black Lagoon. I can't get enough of people reacting to thoes animes just as much as Arcane and Avatar I ain't going to lie. ☺️ But with Castlevania Nocturne season 2 coming around the corner...I can't wait for that too.

RyokoTheBeast

Yeah the show was rated “pg” too. I have yet to finish the show. I actually stopped watching after season 1, but I might continue watching it and binge it.

Yoshitsune92

Reason why I like Aang more. She’s too impulsive, irrational and emotional. Show is darker than the OG tho.

Yoshitsune92

Another thing I realized as I got older was the dark possibility that Korra went to that cliffside to jump and end herself right there. She'd been the Avatar as long as she could remember, and it was a very core part of her identity. Suddenly, all of that was stripped from her. At that point, she could have thought that she didn't have anything to live for anymore.

rayyia

God, I kind of want a sound clip for Bethany's gasp upon seeing Tenzin's family; it was so clean and filled with legitimate emotion, well done. "Just like a future industries forklift." As she isn't badass enough, Asami is confirmed to be forklift certified. I stand by that Noatak and Tarrlok's death scene is one of the darkest and saddest villain death scenes ever. Yeah, as a short epilogue to the original show, this season fantastic. As I said previously, the network execs saw the hype and greenlit 3 more seasons shortly before season 1 premiered, so the team had barely a year to write, voice, animate and fully produce season 2. I look forward to your opinion on it soon. It took me way too long to figure out what you meant by bendy ball, jeezum. Tarrlok being in the top 5 was a surprise, but understandable. Very satisfied with y'alls lists, especially the inclusion of Bolin.

DementisXYZ

I think Tarrlok realized that he and his brother were only continuing their father's cycle of hate and that they were irredeemable and/or it wasn't worth taking the risk to see if they could change. Yakone became "kind" for his wife and children but switched back to ruthless the second he saw his kids were waterbenders. Tarrlok probably didn't trust himself and Amon not to regress in a similar way. He was probably also tired from all the pain they had caused and just wanted it to be over. This was such a great first season and I'm looking forward to seeing you guys start season two on Monday!

Lady RedShee

What I find so mindblowing (haha) about that in a nick show, that during the airplane fight, every pilot got out "in time" and you always could see them deploy a parachute, as if to say: "It's fine, nobody is dying, they all made it out alive, this is family friendly". Even the guy that got his bomb compartment blown up by Iroh, realistically speaking, there was no chance that guy would've seen that coming and able to jump out of the plane in time. And then they end with that explosion, leaving no doubt about what happened, making all the parachute details (or at least that last one) seem unnecessary.

HaruGrad

Avatar state yip yip!

Malcolm Shanks

This was an actually really dark for a nick show. Killing himself and his brother. I think Amon cried because he knew what his brother was gonna do and felt regret in their childhood. That’s my guess.

Yoshitsune92

The thing with The Legend of Korra, was that this show was supposed to be a one and done season. Obviously it did well to get a season 2, it's why they got rid of the villains of this season.
