It was kind of shown here as well that philosophical difference between them. Jiren stopped fighting because he thought he was the best and what was the point. Even if Goku thought that he would still want to fight everyone and find different ways to beat them and try to beat them at his lowest power level possible to win 🙂

The Pride Troopers are very similar with the old Ginyu force...poses and uniforms...and tough! Burter was the "fastest" in the universe or so he thought....lol. Dyspo is the "fastest" in the multiverse. I suppose if you put yourself in Top's perspective....he is a hero in the 11th universe. He fights evil and protects the universe with his fellow pride troopers. Then he gets a message that a dastardly fiend in the 7th universe helps convince the Omni kings to destroy the universes except one lone universe that can beat the others in a contest of martial arts...Top would see Goku and the 7th as villains. Top literally is playing like a knight at the round table sort of with his speech. Actually now that you mention it, Ribrianne also talked like a maidenly knight. almost like both characters are acting in a Shakespearean play. which i guess makes sense as to why 17 and 18 in the final battle with universe 2, started acting like they too were in a Shakespearean play.

stare downs are peak dragonball though, they really set up the enormity of fights in my opinion. Given that we get 10 epic episodes to finish this fight I am glad we got a few minutes dedicated to a staredown

I remember I told them about the sparking zero commentary being more than a hour and they replied saying they could split it up when doing the reaction if needed so maybe they could that for the granola, moro arcs if they don't want to wait for the anime as cartu dojo's summary does miss out some really cool moments from those arcs.

8:18 Goku and Jiren having that conversation about their quests to strength and power is quite interesting because it shows both have different philosophies when it comes to achieving strength, power and have different goals. In the dbs manga when they have that conversation it makes their differences even more clear as Jiren says to Goku " A man like yourself will never achieve perfection" and Goku replied back saying "perfection I don't want that cuz that would mean stopping. Standing in place. I'm always aiming higher." which shows Jiren goal is to reach perfection in strength, power and reach a wall that can not be overcome whereas Goku's goal is not to reach perfection in strength, power rather to continue over coming any wall to gaining greater strength, power.

Although Takahashi has been animating scenes in Super so far, this is the second episode where his artstyle completely takes over and overrides that of the main art director, Yamamuro. The previous episode where this happened was 114. These instances are so fun because they diversify the visuals. If you’re a fan of this artstyle, you’re gonna absolutely love the next Super movie.

Oh this explains why some frames were very Shida. I’d always thought it was just Takahashi who worked on this episode, and whatever Shida resemblance was me being wrong. Good to know I don’t totally suck at guessing the animators

“You say I’m arrogant, I say damn right” is such a great line. Jiren trying to call Vegeta prideful to taunt him is so ironic - it’s probably the best compliment you can give Vegeta lol

Ofc. It's also likely the reason why "Royal Blue" and "Silver" aren't really featured there (if you get my meaning). That, and it's fair to assume that a 1hr 40min movie that was coming out in Dec of 2018 was being produced at the time of these episodes.

Yeah Sean Schemmel has always been a FANTASTIC voice for Goku. He even said it himself in an interview not too long ago that he takes the role Toriyama gave him SERIOUSLY, putting in effort in every single line. For someone who has been voicing Goku since 1998, it's amazing how hearty his Goku impression is after all these years
Edit: Loved watching all your DBZ Kai/Super reactions throughout the year, and looking forward to the rest of Super and Daima next year! Cheers to a great 2025!

While the staredown could've been shorter, I can kinda understand why it was as long as it was. They likely wanted to attribute more of the animators' time with the upcoming eps alongside DBS Broly (which was very likely in production at this point), so having them just stand around makes sense (at least to me).

@Shadowpunch Yeah, he would've been my first recommendation, but his vids are over an hour for each. Feels selfish to just point to those and expect full reactions, especially since many here are likely holding out and it's not very considerate of DnD's recording schedule. They could break them up into parts, but I would also feel selfish suggesting that bc I imagine a lot of viewers would like to keep the ball rolling with Super Hero and so on.

I really like how Vegeta broke through Jirens defense, even if it was just for a moment, it was the major highlight in this episode. I wish that the whole stare off didn’t take up so much time in this episode, I swear they could have fit in so much more if they didn’t include it lol

Justin's Den is another channel (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) that basically covers those arcs in full, with little to no interjections. Only thing is, I'm pretty sure his videos are like, hours long, so idk how that'd go in terms of reaction content but yeah. It's a shame those arcs (as well as some of the changes made to the Super Hero arc) are likely gonna be stuck in Dragon Ball purgatory since, who knows when or if they'll ever be animated.

Allow me to paint a picture: it's down to Universe 7 vs 11. The final battle that which the entire arc has more or less been building towards for well over a year now. You watch this weekly, and in between this one and the last, there was 2 week gap which meant you'd have to wait even longer. Nobody knows how ANY of this is gonna go, but we know it's a mainly a Vegeta vs. Jiren episode. What I'm saying is watching this episode live, (and most of what follows) was such an exemplary time to be a Dragon Ball fan. These are the episodes that people refresh like madmen on Crunchryoll, or whatever streaming services you have to watch it the literal second it drops.
Also, Yuya Takahashi my GOAT.

Yeah, I'm currently not really reading the Moro and Grahnola arc as the movie didn't really make you feel like you're missing anything. Seems to just time skip after the first movie, but I do know about them as I watch The 3 Idiots who ate mostly Dragon Ball based channels and they do go into detail about both arcs. I'm currently waiting on some news about season 2 of Super as there have been whispers that that is under production.

I was actually going to mention this when they finished the last movie but you beat me to it. Yeah best hold of those two death battles until then. Beerus and the fusion battle are good to go, though I believe Beerus battle has been taken down.

That's what I hear too, but the lightning effect as he powers up makes it seems like yeah, he just went SS2 with Blue, but I can see inconsistency being a major part of it despite him clearly having the SS2 hair in the shots.

2024-12-31 20:18:58 +0000 UTC
I don't know if I'd go so far as to call that "SSB2". Pretty sure it's just a result of the animation team just going for more detail in those shots. Dragon Ball usually makes it pretty clear when a new form is meant to be... well, a new form.

Last DB reaction of 2024! Just wanted to thank everyone again for this fine community where we can all have fun discussing and enjoying Dragon Ball all over again. This year has marked the only time I’ve ever really interacted with an online community like this. Never really had anyone to talk about DB with when I was growing up, so I’m grateful for being able to do so down here every week with people who share my enthusiasm.
Here's to a good 2025, yeah? 🍺

Before we start getting into the hype of the final episodes, I figure now is the best time to address this (long post ahead, sorry):
During the 3.5 years between the releases of the two DBS movies, Toyotaro and Toriyama continued to produce two more arcs in the manga, known as the Moro arc and Granolah arc. These two arcs have yet to be animated, which has reportedly been because Shueisha wants the manga to be far ahead of the DBS anime so we don’t get a repeat of what happened with the T.o.P arc (the anime’s version concluded far before the manga’s version). It’s also because there’s been an ongoing custody battle (since Toriyama's passing) for who gets to control over Dragon Ball between Shuiesha and Dragon Ball executive producer Akio Iyoku that I won’t go too much into for the sake of being concise. Here’s a link to a translation for an article discussing the situation if it’s of interest: https://x.com/SupaChronicles/status/1814360702595018853
Anyway, the reason I’m bringing this forward is because of two key reasons.
1) Since you two react to Death Battle, you should know that the ones for Frieza vs. Megatron and Vegeta vs Thor hold two very big spoilers for the unanimated arcs (ones that I'd say are rather hard to forget). Hell, Omni Man vs Bardock already had a little bit of spoilers for the Granolah arc, but it is what it is.
2) While I trust that the members of the DnD community and I won’t spoil them, I can’t guarantee that things like YT thumbnails, social media, and comments from other videos will keep things under wraps. Don’t know how much you two interact with the DB community outside of comments, but truth be told I still got spoiled about the two arcs even as someone who took a step back from keeping up with DB after the release of the first DBS movie. I feel that it will become increasingly difficult not to have them spoiled in passing as the stories told by the two arcs start to become old news. That being said, there are YT videos that provide solid play-by-plays of these arcs. Carthu’s Dojo’s vids are the only of these vids (that I know of) that aren’t over an hour, but he interjects a lot with his own opinion as he’s going through the story and doesn’t quite cover “everything”.
It’s cool if you decide not to check out these two arcs as they aren’t connected to any current animated DB content. Just wanted to mention all this bc I’ve seen some people recommending the aforementioned Death Battles. Don’t know how similar the arcs will be to the manga either as the DBS anime and manga’s continuity are already so different (as you’ve probably deduced from our comments), so there’s a slim chance the spoilers I’m referring to might not even be animated. Again, sorry for this damn essay of a comment.

Up to this point, this may have been the best looking episode of Super. Between Naotoshi Shida serving as storyboard artist and Yuya Takahashi as both an animation supervisor and key animator, we knew damn well that this episode was gonna have some crispy ass frames. Boy did they deliver. That's not to discredit the others who worked on this episode, but those were the names that I recall being the ones getting hyped up.

I can finally see these on time. Oh yeah, this is when the animation team cooked. Speaking of, I'm still not sure if Goku went SSB2, since it seemed he did power up to SS2, but nothing ever acknowledges it. His hair is vastly different in some shots and then appears normal later on. I know SSBKKX20 is vastly more controlable and less straining than SSB2 as it just multiplies his power by 2 so going SS2 is just redundant. Can I just say that Galick Gun from Vegeta is beautiful and that God Final Flash *chef's kiss*.
