The advice he gave her was when she was feeling unsure and at her lowest. It was at the time when Weiss herself was doubting Ruby. While his advice is something that every leader should take, she wasn't even mentally and emotionally prepared to go to Beacon. She got in to Beacon mainly because of her Silver eyes which is what Ozpin had noticed, and because he was familiar with her family history. Ruby was and is a fighting prodigy because of her weapon but she didn't quite have the emotional maturity to take it on. Though she started on a high in Act 1, she experienced her own Inciting Incident where everything collapsed around her and she wasn't exactly trained for that. Yang, who raised her shielded her from the bad stuff and basically coddled her but then again at that age no child is fit to be a mother. Ruby had grown accustomed to that as well as focusing on the heroic deeds of the heroes she read in books rather than the consequences. She went in naively and by the time we teamed up with Jaune, Nora and Ren, it really showcased her doey-eyed view of the world (one example being Mistral since she didn't know exactly how huge it was - indicated by a conversation with Team RNJR). It was during that time we see early signs of her "imposter syndrome." But yes, she has helped out a lot but she deflects or changes the subject when asked how she's doing.

Yup, exactly, Ruby and other students misinterpreted his words because he didn't elaborate. Ruby was already feeling unsure of herself and she LET his words seep in and from her perspective took it to heart which caused her to eventually go down the deep end as many of the other students had done. I'd say more but I pretty much said it in my response to the DnD duo. Basically he should have said more. He should have pointed out that she shouldn't have to take on the burden alone. As I mentioned below "Ruby was and is a fighting prodigy because of her weapon but she didn't quite have the emotional maturity to take on the task as leader." Now with the Ever After experience, it's that catharsis that will finally help her see that she needs to slow down and share her own grievances. Part of me thinks she didn't want to burden Yang with those issues since when she was a kid, it was Yang she turned to as the surrogate mother-figure because she needed that emotional support. So as a leader, I can see her trying to not return to that role and attempt to be as emotionally as strong as Yang only for it to backfire because she removed herself from having an outlet to vent to and when it got too much, that's when she exploded.

I feel like that interpretation of Ozpins words is a bit twisted. Doing your best is supposed to be about putting in real effort and not half-assing things. I don't think it was ever supposed to be about being perfect all the time. I think Coco (and Ruby) just fell into the trap many people do when in leadership roles.

But Ruby did help them through a lot and by shouldering that burden help the other team members grow and find themselves. So maybe he just gave her the advice she needed to hear in that moment? 🤗 Though it would've been nice if he had followed it up at some point to let her know it's okay to let go and lean on people.

Bethany and Ken

Winter will continue to be hard on herself it seems until she is able to have a real win. Doesn't have to be Salem's defeat, but I feel like she needs to defeat someone big using her maiden powers 🤔

Bethany and Ken

Yes crossing all the fingers we can 😁

Bethany and Ken

😂

Bethany and Ken

Ah okay. Missed that it was the same door as Atlas to Vacuo so thanks for pointing that out 🙂

There was also that kind of "off" moment when Yang grins while hugging Jaune w/ Blake after Weiss' comments to him at the village, which is right after what happened with Ruby. I can see Weiss and Blake processing what happened to Ruby with a little distance and able to support Jaune in that way, but Yang shouldn't have emotionally been capable of smiling like that at the time...

I'm just imagining Ozpin trying to comfort Jaune and saying, "We're all gonna die ... not me though, so why not live in the moment." ngl wasn't expecting the dark turn but you aren't wrong.

Ooof! This is where I blame Ozpin's horrible advice to Ruby back in Volume 1. Ozpin: "Being a team leader isn't just a title you carry into battle, but a badge you wear constantly. If you are not always performing at your absolute best, then what reason do you give others to follow you?" While his advice rings true, he gave this advice to a 15 year girl at the time (In Vol 9 she's 17 - which is also the eligibility age to enroll in Beacon or any of 4 the main academies). At 15 she was naive and impressionable and already doubtful of her leadership where we had Weiss question that and even point out that Ruby wasn't fit to lead. So she goes progresses through future volumes with this in mind. Even in the RWBY Novel "After the Fall", Coco provides some advice to Ruby in a flashback where she explains what it takes to be a leader (advice that Coco herself had gotten from Ozpin so I have no doubt that Ozpin shared this advice with EVERY student.) Coco: "As good as you are, Ruby, you have to try to be even better—for them. You can’t show weakness. You can’t be weak, because they’re depending on you to keep them safe.” So with their advice, it's not difficult to see how Ruby would end up at the state she was during the Ever After. She was living up to the expectations that were planted in her head constantly from Beacon's headmaster as well as upperclassmen like Coco.

Your not wrong in regards to Yang. Unfortunately because of the budget cut I feel some of the stuff we needed to see with Yang got cut so all we got is her nearly collapsing in Blake's arms. Can't be helped but it would have been nice if we got a scene with Yang pulling on the vines demanding the Ever After to give Ruby back and Blake and Weiss had to pull her out of Neo's house before it collapsed on them.

Loved knowing Sun and Neptune are still tearing up the town together and getting into stuff. It also looks like Raven was already hobnobbing with the Vacuo bigwigs, before Team RWBY’s (and Jaune’s – lol!) return. Meanwhile, who’s the mysterious young woman? Maybe the campfire thing was big on CRWBY’s mind at the time due to the shakeup with RT – and their own campfires are how they worked through it together. No matter what happened, they at least had those moments as they happened and also to remember later? It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by potential loss, but it doesn’t detract from the love that was shared conveyed by the bond of memory. (Nice pep talk Bethany btw, lol! But yeah.) Somewhat’s encounter with the Red Prince – I really like that perhaps with the Cat’s passing, a new way of life is working through the Ever After. The Genial Gems have learned to care for their own needs as well as the needs of others, making them more resilient. And instead of sending the unhappy Prince back to the Tree for another change (using the Herbalist’s leaves), Somewhat instead spends time with the Prince, who realizes he enjoys the time despite losing the game … and maybe Friendship and being together in the moment is a new way of doing things in the EA, to bring hope and joy? I also thought the unseen visitor most likely Neo (from the portal design). While I don’t know what Somewhat would remember as Little (although they remembered Ruby was a huntress), they might have also seen Neo’s return to the Tree (inside or out) since their time feasibly overlapped. Also, it would mean Neo would at least be somewhat recognizable (by her eyes, if nothing else). Regardless, I hope she has found some peace without losing all of who she had been, because despite some of her choices, (like Raven) she was pretty cool. Glad Yang talked to Ruby and they have a way through when Ruby might feel overwhelmed in the future. What they experienced in the Ever After was traumatic but they have learned from it and the team is stronger than before. Now Ruby has an alternative to pulling away, and Yang is more sensitive to Ruby’s signals. I really want to see how all of these new ways of being together will come together in a new season – RWBY’s closeness, Qrow’s optimism, Raven’s engagement, Jaune’s long years of experience in the EA. I hope to see Winter also maybe find some peace or at least ease up on herself.

Lol, honestly I feel something brewing with future RWBY productions. This HAS to be the case..IT HAS TO!! Lol. I feel forward motions being made. Hopefully the wait won't be too much longer 🙂

I was... in a mood when these originally came out. So when I tried watching I got halfway through Jr. detectives and just kinda bounced off. I'd heard there was great stuff later but just couldn't invest like I used to. The closing of RT really bummed me out. So thanks for giving me this excuse to finally experience them. I uh... yeah Jr detectives still does nothing for me but the others really did. Not specifically my favorite but personally important to me was the conversation between Yang and Ruby. One of the things (potentially the only thing) that really bothered me in vol 9 was Yang's reaction to what happened to Ruby. I wanna start by saying that I recognize not everyone is going to handle things the same way, and honestly Yang as a character is very different from myself anyway. But I also grew up as the eldest sibling in a family that regularly resulted in me being a substitute parent since I was very very young. Not to say that's even required for the sort of response I would have expected from Yang seeing her sister potentially choose to... discontinue. But just the thought curdles my stomach something fierce. And suffice to say while she was clearly upset... it was a cough compared to cancer of what I would expect. In... fresher comment sections I argued with many on this point and they always said it was there and I just didn't see it. Those people didn't understand, there would be no missing the emotional chernobyl I was talking about. But, I imagine if they had more time available we might have seen something more along those lines. And while this beyond conversation doesn't nullify my discontent (to be clear I'm over it, it's a show and it came out a while ago lol), it does go a long ways towards expressing the significance of their bond and the horror of that moment. I needed that.

Oh my God! Ruby are you ok!? *Ruby lying on the ground holding her knees rocking back and forth* "BOBA! BOBA!"
