I think a dictionary might be in order. Calling a man whose only goal in his mortal life is to protect the innocent self-righteous is an oxymoron. If he was protecting the innocent in order to receive hero worship then maybe but it's clear from day 1 that he only cares about protecting people and he views anyone (like Goku) who would nonchalantly and carelessly endanger his entire universe just so he can fight, as a villain who needs to he brought down. And he's also a man who sacrificed his ideals and the life he knew in order to save his universe. Self-righteous is the farthest thing from the truth.

2025-04-02 06:00:44 +0000 UTCMan, the first time Toppo the Destroyer was revealed really made an impact on me. Toppo was already strong but his new form looks amazing. It makes sense in a way, when your universe is at stake, there may come a point your beliefs won't save the people you love anymore. Justice is commendable, but did nothing against Freeza attacking him from behind. It's a selfless sacrifice on Toppo's part because embracing your position as god of destruction means giving up the life you always knew. Of course, Vegeta wasn't wrong in the next episode about standing by your beliefs. But at the same time Toppo's decision could have worked out well. I'm having a great time re-watching these episodes with you. I'm excited to see the next episodes and to hear your thoughts on them.

Daman’s performance as Frieza is a lot more aloof and growly with a low-pitched intonation. Chris has a way more dynamic intonation and is able to take his voice higher than Daman. His delivery is usually also a bit more sassy, although Daman’s is sassy too but to a slightly lesser degree

Whenever the topic of a replacement destroyer is brought up, Whis pairs it up by talking about having Beerus “kick the bucket,” and Beerus takes the idea of having a successor as a threat every single time. Almost like that title needs to be snatched violently. I think the manga will probably elaborate on this in the future

Frieza, a mortal with no divine training at all was able to withstand a weaker form of Hakai so its pretty clear that Destroyers can be destroyed just not easily by any stretch of the imagination.

It was a call back to that. If top wasn't allowed to fight, an argument could be made goku and vegeta shouldn't be allowed either. They're also receiving training from an angel and destroyer god.

Korean certainly doesn’t have an interesting personality but I like characters that don’t yell or talk loud about how great they are so I enjoyed just seeing jiren stomp everyone without any trouble. Stoic characters are far more enjoyable to me

I'm guessing when a destroyer is replaced, the former destroyer returns to becoming a mortal again The symbol on toppo when he became a destroyer is something the other destroyers and Angels have on their clothing and it seems each universes destroyer's symbol is different

His love for his universe, he kind of carries that fatherly protector essence to me & making him a destroyer in training makes him that more interesting to me. I also don't understand why the american dub named his top instead of his original name "Toppo" I understand one of the meanings translates to "Top" but i still think they should've kept his original name. Top is so weird lol

After he transformed Krillin said "Look at the sky!" There were nebulas and stars in the sky now. He low key made a Big Bang. and everyone else in the ring survived that (which also explains the Grand Priest shielding the stands) goes hard af ngl.

I can see why you could see it as cheating for having a legitimate G.o.D. enter the tournament, but you also have to consider, both 17 and 18 are inexhaustible beings, Goku and Vegeta have literal Divine Ki and were training with Whis and they also have a Planet Destroyer in Frieza. So, we're not exactly fighting fair either. Can I just say 17 in Super became my favorite Android. Don't get me wrong, I loved 18 in Z and Super, but 17 took the cake with hus sarcasm, sassiness, and deadpan humor. In Z I overlooked him a lot, even during the Piccolo fight with 17 I kept my eyes on Piccolo the entire time. Also watching back on OGDB and hearing Chuck Huber as Pilaf, then drastically changing to become 17 is a ride.

2025-01-09 21:22:51 +0000 UTCNot so! Although Daman Mills did fill in for episodes 93-107 for the original broadcast release, Ayres was able to reprise his role for 108 onwards. Then, for the Blu-ray and streaming releases, they had him go back and re-dub 93-107. This is especially obvious in episode 95 since even some lines were changed around. (Slight spoilers for DND) Ayres also reprised his role as Frieza for the Broly movie.

Then again I love sassy 17, he became my favorite of the Androids in Super as I paid him no mind in Z. Plus I still can't believe I'm hearing Pilaf and Shen as 17.

Technically Top is still mortal as hes only a destroyer in training so he was able to take part in the tournament. Fun fact, Jiren was asked to be a destroyer but declined but I think Top suits the role of destroyer.

Both in his lines shit-talking Toppo and the sounds of agony when he’s getting his shit kicked in. For me, the real highlight is around here (14:11) in the sub when Frieza’s laughing his ass off at Toppo. As an English speaker, I prefer the dub’s writing of Frieza’s dialogue and Chris Ayres’ delivery is phenomenal, but Nakao’s Frieza laugh is what makes him my favorite Frieza VA (just slightly above Chris Ayres). IMO it’s the perfect blend of pretentiousness, sadism, and joy that you’d expect of Frieza.

However, he didn’t gain access to “hakai” (destruction) energy or undergo any drastic change in physique like he does in the anime. This suggests that Toriyama’s initial manuscript might’ve only mentioned Toppo getting stronger by unleashing divine energy, and Toei just decided to take that inch and run a mile with it by turning him into what they did (which is just hilarious to me).
