What I find odd is that this series made Ersebet Bathory a different vampire. In most stories. Carmilla is the vampire most associated with Ersebet, but of course they already used Carmilla so I think that was a bit of a wasted opportunity there. Also a little fun fact, the story of Carmilla actually predates the stories of Dracula by about 25 years. The stories and accusations around the real Ersebet Bathory killing and bathing in the blood of virgins was never actually proven or disproven. One side of the argument is that she actually committed these atrocities, while the other side of the argument was that these claims were just a ploy for other nobles to claim her rather sizable lands and properties for themselves. What is known is that she was tried and sentenced to be imprisoned in her castle, Castle Csejte, which is still standing and you can even tour through. I believe they still have an iron maiden in the castle as part of the tour (not to be put inside it of course :D)

Theres also rumours that she enjoyed drinking the blood of virgins so just like how Dracula is based on Vlad the Impaler, this new villain is not as fictional as you might think

2025-01-14 23:32:04 +0000 UTCYour reaction to the first episode last week encouraged me to finally binge this the other day. Didn't like it as much as the first series (especially the first half), but it picked for me in the second half. Still looking forward to season 2 this Thursday.
