Dragon Ball Super: Super Heroes Full Reaction
Added 2025-02-04 23:11:48 +0000 UTCJust watched this last night. Full Watch Along reaction for Super Heroes movie.
There will be no Dragon Ball upload this Thursday as the two movies were supposed to be this week, and with DB leaving Hulu we had to rush through the edits to get them out.
OG DB will start Tuesday February 11th.

it may be unlikely you see this message so late, but i highly recommend the One Piece movies, especially if you don't have plans to watch the series proper.

2025-09-23 22:13:34 +0000 UTCI love this movie! This movie has all the things that were missing for me from Super up to this point. When I watched it for the first time it felt like I was watching og DB and early Z (but on a bigger scale of power) and it's been a really long time since DB made me feel like that. I also love that Gohan and Videl are not like Chi Chi was and they don't let her influence them about how to raise Pan. They let her train but she is also going to school which is the balance I always wanted to see from kid and teen Gohan. Plus it seens like Pan really likes to train and fight but thats probably because she was never forced into it like Gohan was so she doesn't have any trauma related to training and fighting.

2025-02-17 06:35:30 +0000 UTCBulma's Voice actress is Monica Rial. Topical that you'd want her to yell at her specifically. She's particularly good yelling and shrieking instead of....well....other genuine emotion

2025-02-09 05:47:21 +0000 UTCI'm so glad you guys got to see this movie. It definitely feels like a fan service as we get to have Piccolo and Gohan have the spotlight for the first time in a long time. Plus it was great seeing Piccolo get a power up that he definitely deserved after all of these years. I knew you guys would enjoy this movie since you two fell in love with gohan and piccolo from DBZ abridged. I can't wait to see your reaction to the OG Dragon Ball series next.

2025-02-09 04:29:36 +0000 UTCThis is the last movie toriyama worked on for the series and you can really tell when he's involved deeply in the series. The mannerisms with piccolo holding the phone weird and using one finger like an old person unfamiliar with technology is something I wouldn't have thought of but makes 100% sense for the character. I also love how he made it a piccolo movie, a character everyone loves and asked to be made relevant again. Watching this again made me smile but also so very sad we won't get writing quite like this ever again for the future of the series, Toyotaro (The one who writes the manga in place of toriyama) is so very different from toriyama himself and in my opinion lacks his bizzare creativity that made the series as unique and fun as it is. Name of the new gohan transformation is "Beast Gohan" although I'm sure plenty of people probably said this by now. Some people feel it's unearned, I personally don't care because it is in fact the coolest transformation next to Broly's

2025-02-08 23:51:00 +0000 UTCOur pleasure. And yeah this movie was such a treat because we just love the Mr. Piccolo and Gohan dynamic. It was what first drew us into DBZA when we watched that and it's always been endearing to us 🙂

2025-02-08 17:43:19 +0000 UTCHoping anime comes back. Doing OG DB and Daima and then if we are starved for Dragon Ball and no signs of new anime coming out then we may dive into manga. 🤗

2025-02-08 17:38:01 +0000 UTCSimultaneously....which is kind of wild because we watched first two episodes of OG DB and then Daima back to back and at least one question we had in our OG DB reaction got immediately answered in Daima which was pretty cool. 😁

2025-02-08 17:33:11 +0000 UTCNot sure how crunchy roll player is on computer, but it SUCKED for Apple TV when we tried to watch Resurrection F. That's why we went with that weird YouTube one at first. So was dreading the problems we were going to have with both Daima and OG DB now. However, so far it's a lot smoother and easier to use and doesn't freeze and crash on us. So just letting you know that so far it's been a lot better for us.

2025-02-08 17:26:33 +0000 UTCVidel. Unpopular opinion, but ever since it daisy asked, the Buu Saga had been my favorite and Videl was a big contributing factor to that, especially during the Saiyaman arc. So yeah, my top 2 are the power couple.

2025-02-08 09:47:47 +0000 UTCI think I worded my comment wrong, I don’t believe that, I love beast gohan, (although I do agree piccolos is a little bit of a shitpull) I’m saying a lot of peoples complaints for this movie was those power ups being given to them

2025-02-08 05:35:23 +0000 UTCThey heard about the 16 thing in Kakarot. Also, I was little disappointed that they skipped talking to 21 since I knew the movie reaction was coming up and they would most likely remember her. But they never “saw” or at least talked to her in the game.

2025-02-08 05:30:49 +0000 UTC(@Mackenzie) Plus, Gohan is had his potential unlocked twice. And so did Krillin, so that’s nothing new, either.
k c
2025-02-08 05:29:30 +0000 UTCexcept they werent "shitpull" transformations. piccolo's was maybe a LITTLE. i havent figured out exactly why Shenron gave Piccolo a "little extra", im sure there is a lore reason behind it...but Gohan was watching everyone around him fall, possibly die as he charged up that energy and he was ready to blame himself, especially when he thought piccolo died. its a repeat of what happened when #16 was destroyed, only this time it was everyone around him that he cared about. I mean...as a fan of Dragonball, you should know that loss and anger are huge catalysts for massive powerups, as well as playing on the massive potential everyone sees in Gohan

2025-02-07 16:32:18 +0000 UTCThat was a amazing reaction. Thank you! I really enjoyed watching it. I enjoyed your comments and thoughts at the end as well . I entirely agree that Broly had a better story and was more serious, but this movie made me smile at the end. Both movies had some fantastic action scenes. - I loved seeing Piccolo taking charge and being central in this movie. His infiltration of Red Ribbon, him working together with Pan, his support of Gohan, him being the team leader during the battle with Cell Max, etc. Gohan was very important as well, but he also followed Piccolo's lead during the final battle. - The transformations of Gohan and Piccolo are amazing. I especially liked how Piccolo now has his time to shine. - I really enjoyed the interactions between Gohan and Piccolo. And Piccolo's dynamic with Pan was heartwarming. - I liked the two Gamma's. Good design and interesting characters. I liked their loyalty towards Hedo, and I liked Hedo because he actually cares for the Gamma's. After re-watching this movie with you I realized the Gamma's didn't get as much screentime as they needed. I'd loved getting some more insight in their personality. Gamma 2's sacrifice was still emotional and that ending scene with Hedo holding his hand actually made me tear up. I liked that Gamma 1 showed more emotion near the end. (There's a little moment where he smiles when Pan is flying) - Recently a new DLC for Sparking Zero was released that focuses on Super Hero. The Gamma's, Piccolo and Gohan all have more lines. It also shows us more about the Gamma's personality. - Cell Max was cool. They really were able to convey his power. - Gohan's new transformation is called Gohan Beast. It's an evolved form of his Ultimate form (The one he used against Gamma 1) but it also makes Gohan constantly balance on the edge of rage, at risk of going berserk the more power he uses in this state. It's only thanks to Piccolo's training in the past Gohan was able to maintain some level of control. - After the movie Piccolo would continue to train Gohan to help him control his new transformation. - The fight between Goku and Vegeta was fantastic. Without their energy and transformations, it all comes down to skill and technique, and it makes for an intense and very interesting fight. Thank you again for your reaction. I had a great time re-watching this movie together with you.

2025-02-06 22:28:42 +0000 UTC"He looks like he's from the Incredibles." That's...more accurate than I was expecting. My favorite version of Pan to date! Mr. Piccolo has a house! Also, one of my favorite minor details about this movie (mostly the style) is that Videl actually looks like Videl again. Throughout Super, her new design, at least the face, didn't look quite right. I feel like this art style allowed them to get the face right again. A good reason for this style; they were already using the CG for battle scenes, and the transitions were hit or miss. Make the whole movie that way and it flows seamlessly. "Wakanda was way more beautiful." They had better music, too. "Cell Max?" The synchronicity from Ken and Mr. Piccolo was beautiful. Then there's the one aspect of this movie that's...awkward, to me. Having Beerus crush on Cheelai is a thing and...I don't hate it, but I do find it offputting. Bulma butt. I will admit, that is the best method to write out Goku and Vegeta possible. "Great badass action shot for Piccolo." Whoa, it's weird not hearing Bethany say Mr. Piccolo. And yeah, this whole movie is great for Piccolo and I love it. "How many oreos do you think he eats a day?" Depends on how many he has access to. If I have a full pack available, I'll go through it in about 2 or 3 days, so that's about 10-15 a day. I imagine he's taking down 3-4 times that. Behold! The biggest new ship to come out of this movie! Mr. Piccolo and Janet! Not even joking; so many people ship these two and I'm all for it. #LoveforPiccolo. I said in the Broly comments that this is my favorite Dragon Ball, and Pan is definitely a contributing factor to that. She's so cute yet so awesome. "Gohan just ruined his house." Eh, he has Satan money; it'll be fine. "Saiyans stay small for a long time until one day we get a crazy growth spurt." Canon, 'cause that's what happened with Goku. He stayed "Kid Goku" until somewhere between 15 and 18, when he became "Adult Goku." "Orange Crush." Yo, honestly? If not for copyright, that'd be pretty sick. "Yeaaaah! Orange Crush!" Screw it, I'm accepting that as the name now, even if they legally can't. The hype for the special beam cannon is so valid; Gohan knows who his true father is, and Toriyama obviously knew it, too. "Yeah, that's crazy hair." Yeah, Gohan Beast is awesome and I love that he has his own, exclusive transformation, but that hair is...a lot. Pan showing off she can fly is actually a great segue to the end of Z. When we were first originally introduced to Pan at the end of Z, she was 4 years old and her first words were "Grandpa, Grandpa, I just flew around the world again!" Easily my favorite Dragon Ball movie, since Gohan is my favorite character and Piccolo is in my top 5, so seeing the two of them get more attention is so satisfying. Also, Vegeta (my 3rd favorite) gets his win! So, there actually is pre- and post-story for this movie in the manga, including a little bit of Gohan Beast vs Broly, so that's fun.

2025-02-05 22:24:12 +0000 UTCAlthough a lot of people hated on this movie for the animation style, and shitpull transformations (my older brother included) I absolutely loved this movie. To finally give the others some screentime and defeat the main enemy. And give a chance for piccolo and Gohan to not be so far behind Vegeta and Goku for the future is great. The whole movie is just a feel good story and was genuinely beautiful once u get past the first few minutes. RIP Gamma 2 🙏 and extremely excited for OG DragonBall!

2025-02-05 16:03:30 +0000 UTCAt 18:08 they show Gohan's photos on his work desk when he was baby with Goku and Gohan's wedding photo showing the whole Son family with Piccolo and Vidal but there's no Chi Chi so Maybe they forgot to put Chi Chi in the family photo or maybe Chi Chi was the one who took the family photo At 3:52 they show Dr hedo's family lineage and it confirms that android 21 (she is in dragonball fighterz) her design is based off Dr gero's wife's (Vomi) appearance also it confirm Dr gero made android 16 based off his Son (Gevo) appearance. I think i still like dbs broly a bit more than dbs superhero because dbs broly was about how Vegeta's father, Goku's father and Broly's father actions and decisions effected their sons and how it lead them to meeting each other and how they all three were interconnected to each other also showing the Sayian society as we didn't get to see much of it in Dragonball plus the fights were amazing but overall from the canon dragonball movies(so far there is a total of 4 canon dragonball movies) dbs broly, dbs superhero and dbz BOG were all great.

2025-02-05 15:48:16 +0000 UTCGlad you guys going to dragonball, hope you look up a list of filler to skip(if you wish. May help with time. Before hulu takes it away.) ya hope the “fan service”/lewd stuff and gags wont be too much for ya…its just how anime is. You have your gags but serious moments of course. Super hero is a good gohan and piccolo movie. At least other characters get the spotlight.

2025-02-05 10:54:43 +0000 UTCI still don’t get where you’re coming from though. Her vanity isn’t even close to being her dominant trait in Super. If anything her character was actually given more screentime and respect in this iteration, and she’s a good mix of selfish and selfless. She pretended to like Beerus and Whis and got real close to them just to protect her family, then took the initiative to learn everything about the Super Dragon Balls and how to summon them for the same reason, and then was very active, serious and dependable throughout the Goku Black arc. The “wishing to look younger” thing was something that was only discussed for 1 minute in the Broly movie and took at most 4 minutes of this movie. That’s it. There’s plenty more examples of her being lustful, vain and immature in OG DB and Z (esp General Blue saga). Not saying it as a bad thing - I like her character that way.
Hohoho
2025-02-05 10:53:07 +0000 UTCEnjoyed your reaction! I was waiting for this one for a long time. Finally, after so many years, we get something that makes Piccolo and Gohan relevant again. I mean, they did a great job during ToP. However, a power-up outside of Goku and Vegeta has been long overdue. Also, it's hard for me to choose which is my favorite movie of the two; however, I feel as if I lean more toward Super Hero. It focuses more on other characters than Goku and Vegeta. Simply put, DBS Broly was more action-driven; DBS Super Hero was more story and character-driven. This is also different for a change since most DBZ movies are action-driven, except for a few.
Cilla W

2025-02-05 09:06:23 +0000 UTCI’ll agree to disagree, I think the more she ages, the worst she gets imo. I actually loved her in DB and DBZ, but I find her unbearable in Super 🤷🏽♀️

2025-02-05 08:15:28 +0000 UTCYou guys have the right mindset going into OG DB. For the first half of the show, expect a lot of humor and gags, and very little in the way of plot or stakes. The initiative to take DB from a gag manga into a serious shonen anime happens gradually over the show, and you can only expect it to feel like Z/Super in the second half. I hope you guys will love it! The anime is a product of its time, so unfortunately you’ll have to deal with… 80s Roshi. Just mentally make peace with that fact lol
Hohoho
2025-02-05 08:04:53 +0000 UTCI think this movie tells a marginally better story than Broly, and is a lot funnier, heartier, and better paced, even during the fights. Broly was a lot cooler, and had a much better set-up and start, and the fights looked better but felt more cold and distant. Battle of Gods had the simplest story, the simplest fights, but a ton of humor, heart, the entire cast was there, and it had the most entertaining antagonists (Beerus and Whis). As I said before, my favorite changes depending on the day, but it’s always one of those three
Hohoho
2025-02-05 07:39:48 +0000 UTCThere’s certainly nothing much to comment until at least halfway through the show. Not in the sense that it isn’t good, but in the sense that they would already be familiar with a lot of the lore and characters thanks to the sequels. Also the information density is sparse early on

2025-02-05 02:02:38 +0000 UTCGotcha, gotcha. I know I see a Playstation controller, so I'm assuming they use the Crunchyroll app on a Playstation, which might have a better player than the website. My main reason for asking was the commercial fade-in thing that all of their Super episodes had. Not that I mind re-syncing, but I wasn't sure how that would translate with the SoM versions.
Shadowpunch13
2025-02-05 01:42:40 +0000 UTCNow you both have witnessed the new forms of Gohan and Piccolo, Beast Gohan and Orange Piccolo respectively, fans have been waiting for these two to get the attention they deserve. Whilst the movie was amazing overall, I did have some issues: - The over reliance on Goku and Vegeta to save the day is expected but disappointing from all the characters, especially Gohan who should be more than strong enough to take on world threats, as Goku has said he wont always be around which was shown in this film - Bulma was super cringey in this film, constantly relying on the dragon balls for vanity reasons is getting super old quick and one of the many reasons why i want a particular GT arc to occur in Super so that the Z fighters experience some form of consequences - Goten and Trunks need to learn how to fight in their own bodies rather than using fusion, the failed fusion joke has officially been overused Not sure whether it has been said by JT but the design of beast gohan is what Toriyamas original design of Super Saiyan was going to be. Also, its meant to echo SSj2 Gohan which I think is a great callback.

2025-02-05 01:39:12 +0000 UTCBased on what they've said on Discord, they may be thinking of using Crunchyroll for both OGDB and Daima considering how things have changed on Hulu and how long Netflix is taking to get Daima's dub over. Crunchyroll's my go-to for anime anyway, so I only have more reason to use it now.
JT
2025-02-05 01:37:52 +0000 UTCI was just gonna use hulu. Even tho it did not have the dub i think i could sync it well enough, but now I might just have to get a crunchyroll subscription.

2025-02-05 01:37:43 +0000 UTCI'm on the side that thinks Iyoku is too concerned with giving fans everything they want, it can work but if they keep that up who knows where this franchise will go. I kinda hope he calms down giving fan service in any future project.

2025-02-05 01:34:36 +0000 UTCFor those who will be continuing to watch along, let me ask: Where do you plan to watch OG Dragon Ball? I personally will probably use the SoM release (which I highly recommend, if you've got the space for it due to its color corrections). Just a curiosity since to be frank, I despise Crunchyroll's player and I'm honestly not sure where else it's streaming.

Beast Gohan being able to land hits on MUI Goku is pretty extraordinary, makes you think what heights he could reach if he continues training.

2025-02-05 01:34:25 +0000 UTCWorks for me lol. I'll actually be watching a lot of OGDB dubbed for the first time alongside their reactions, so I might be counting on ya in that respect.

JT
2025-02-05 01:26:06 +0000 UTCAnd with that, we make our way toward OG Dragon Ball! Real excited 😁. Since you've become rather familiar with these characters and OGDB is much older than I (meaning I never watched it as it was ongoing and have no stories/memories like I do with Super), I foresee myself having less to say compared to my activity during DBS. I think.

2025-02-05 01:24:40 +0000 UTCWhat a movie! Ngl many people including myself didn’t have too many high expectations when this movie first came out, largely because there wasn’t too much advertising going into the movie compared to Broly, but boy were we wrong. Great movie for Piccolo and Gohan, and it was nice to see them get new transformations. Orange Piccolo and Beast Gohan (Toriyama referenced this as Gohan awakening the “beast” within, like a Stage 2 to his Ultimate form), beautiful transformations!! And Bulma’s VA is Monica Rial, amazing voice actress and does really well with her roles, this one being the best. OG Dragon Ball’s next up and I’m looking forward to it! And fair warning: DB has its “moments,” so be prepared for that 😳😅

2025-02-05 01:24:38 +0000 UTCYou mad bastard. Nice job though. I'm not an emotional person but I go back to my Shonen Jump account every so often just to reread that final chapter and the Piccolo wave always gets me. On one hand I would absolutely love Super to come back someday but goddamn that final panel is genuinely beautiful.

2025-02-05 01:22:09 +0000 UTCI did think you'd assume that Beast Gohan was Ultra Instinct as a lot of reactors did think that, most likely because of the similar color scheme. Beast has grown on me as time has past, still not my favorite transformation. Maybe when the manga returns which seems to be slowly happening once Diama ends, Toyotarou will give it more of an explanation and it'll grow on me even more. Orange Piccolo on the other hand I love, very happy he finally got his own transformation.

2025-02-05 01:21:59 +0000 UTCZeno Robinson was goated as Gamma 2, and he’s a great voice actor overall! I’ve seen him interact with fans on social media and would discuss some of his performances, and that’s what makes me admire a VA so much more

2025-02-05 01:18:52 +0000 UTCConsidering the means by which "Gohan Beast" is achieved, (Gohan snapping and losing his shit) I don't think it's a stretch to consider Beast just the SSJ2 form of Gohan's Ultimate form. Perhaps one day thought we'll get a deeper explanation.

2025-02-05 00:18:13 +0000 UTC54:57 Love this fight’s use of raindrops to highlight the speed and power of Gohan and Gamma 1. It's implied that it's part of his magical ability to manifest inanimate objects due to being the reincarnation of Demon King Piccolo, like the clothes and sword he created for Gohan during his training or the hourglass he made to distract Super Buu.

2025-02-04 23:29:39 +0000 UTCThe End of Dragon Ball Super (for now): We begin with a conversation between Carmine and a Red Ribbon Army soldier (the one who went with Piccolo to kidnap Pan) as they drive through a city. The thug remarks that President Magenta’s funeral was surprisingly lowkey considering his position, to which Carmine explains that having it be anything more would’ve drawn unwanted attention from the police. The two lament that despite the Red Ribbon Army’s remaining resources, they won’t be able to bring it back as long as the Z-Fighters continue to live. Their road trip is halted by a fight between Goten and Trunks as Saiyamen X-1 and X-2 against a group of bank robbers. Of course, they stop the robbers with little effort. Carmine, witnessing their strength and not knowing their connection to the Z-Warriors, believes that they can help them fight against the Z-Warriors. He invites the two half-Saiyans for a chat over pizza, where they discuss the notion of teaming up. Goten and Trunks are unsure at first as they think the job isn’t “heroic” enough, but Carmine gets them to agree after suggesting they’re too scared to fight people “out of their league”. We transition to where we left off on Beerus’ Planet, as Vegeta and Broly are having a sparring match. Broly seems to be putting up a fair fight, but Vegeta seems to be winning out. He tells Broly that anger isn’t a bad thing since it’s the source of a Saiyan’s power and explains that the problem lies in his tendency to lose himself to rage. Vegeta powers up into Super Saiyan and states, “Do not suppress your rage. Control it!” As their training continues, Goku and Whis are discussing Broly’s progress. Goku expresses that Broly looks like he’s about to go berserk, but Whis remarks that he doesn’t quite agree. Broly proves the angel’s optimism right by adapting to Vegeta’s power while keeping a level head. The match stops with Vegeta acknowledging Broly’s improvement yet disapproving of his inability to unleash his full might. Broly asks the Saiyan prince what he should do and is answered with, “Find the answer yourself!” Lemo comes over to help the Saiyans refresh with some water bottles. Cheelai and Beerus express to Goku that the Saiyans seem too relaxed given their recent opponents and that they should continue to train in preparation for the danger that’s certain to come in the near future. Beerus remarks that once Goku has finally surpassed him, he’ll nominate him as the next destroyer (to which Goku declines yet again). Whis then tells everyone of the events of Super Hero as he heard of them from Bulma. Beerus responds with shock that Goku’s a father and comments that he must have forgotten since Gohan didn’t leave much of an impression. Vegeta mentions that Bulma said that Gohan may have even surpassed him and Goku in the battle with Cell Max. Goku points out that they didn’t sense Gohan’s ki due to being preoccupied with their duel. Vegeta declares with his smug ass face getting closer across three panels, “Heh heh.. indeed. The duel… which… you lost… to me.” We cut back to Carmine and the RR soldier driving Goten and Trunks to Gohan’s house. Carmine announces their arrival by firing gunshots into the walls of the house. Gohan leaps out of the window in a panicked hurry to see what’s happening. Carmine takes aim and fires at the half-Saiyan, only for the bullets to be caught like nothing. Upon realizing that Pan’s kidnappers have returned, Gohan’s glasses disintegrate as he powers up into his Beast mode immediately. It’s at this moment that Goku and Vegeta sense Gohan’s energy. Carmine rushes back to Goten and Trunks (who are effectively pissing themselves, realizing what they agreed to) and urges them to fight. As Gohan approaches Carmine, he realizes that Goten and Trunks are sitting in the car. He powers down and demands that they explain themselves. Before they can start, Goku interjects by teleporting on top of the car and greeting everyone. Goku cheerfully expresses that he wants to see more of Gohan’s full power. Gohan agrees to show him his new form but nervously explains that he needs to get changed into his gi first. As he runs off to change, Goku proposes that Goten and Trunks join them on Beerus’ planet. While the two kids are talking about going, Carmine and the soldier start getting ready to make their escape. Their attempt is shut down as all of the half-Saiyans file into the car and Goku teleports them away. They arrive back at Beerus’ planet, where Whis, Cheelai, Lemo, and Broly are having a yoga session as Vegeta and Beerus look on in contempt. As Goku and Gohan warm up for their sparring match, Goku asks his son if he’s reached Super Saiyan 2 or 3. Gohan explains that it’s called “Beast” and that Piccolo came up with the form’s name as they trained to help him gain better control over it. Vegeta asks Trunks if he aided in the battle too, which leads to him and Goten stating that they’re unbeatable when they fight together. This gives Vegeta the idea to pit the two kids up against Gohan first to gauge where each Saiyan hybrid is at, to which no objections are raised. Gohan begins the match in Super Saiyan as Goten and Trunks rush him. Their joined attack fails as their helmets make it hard to see clearly, and their combo moves waste a lot of movement (according to Goku and Gohan). The boys ditch the helmets and proceed to go Super Saiyan and put up a much better fight. Gohan compliments the two for keeping in shape, to which Trunks replies by saying they stay strong because they have people they want to protect. Gohan remarks that he feels the same way and powers up into his Ultimate form. The boys declare that they have the reliable old weapon of fusion at their disposal and proceed to do the dance. They fail again and turn into Fat Gotenks. Gotenks still tries to attack Gohan and gets his fat ass punted into a cliffside. Goku steps up to challenge Gohan after Gotenks admits defeat. The older Saiyan begins the fight by activating MUI immediately, stating that there’s no point in taking their time. Gohan responds by turning Beast. Everyone watches in anticipation as the silver-haired Saiyans get into their stances, with Vegeta being the one expressing the most agitation. As soon as the Saiyan prince takes an anxious gulp, the match begins. The father and son duo smile at each other as Goku blocks a powerful kick from Gohan. This one attack alone causes a gust of wind that nearly blows away Lemo, Carmine, and the RR soldier, who are caught by Broly and Gotenks. Beerus motions for Whis to put up a barrier around the spectators, and not a second too soon. Goku and Gohan become nothing more than blurs of speed as the shockwaves from their blows completely wreck the surrounding planet (much to Beerus’ displeasure). Goku congratulates his son on molding his latent potential through training, to which Gohan cites Piccolo as the one who helped him succeed. Nevertheless, Goku ups the ante as he clears his mind and dives further into the MUI state. The battle starts to shift in his favor as it seems Gohan Beast is unable to keep up with the speed of his father’s attacks and dodges. However, Gohan reveals that he’s far from done and affirms, “You haven’t witnessed the full extent of my Beast mode just yet.” In a spectacular display of lightning and power, Gohan charges his ki up even further and charges Goku. Gohan’s raw speed becomes too quick for even Ultra Instinct’s evasion to handle, letting the half-Saiyan land a clean hit on Goku that knocks him out of MUI. Gohan tells Goku that he was able to pull off such power by raising his ki to the point where he might snap while still maintaining control. Goku recognizes the amount of thought Gohan’s put into his new strength, and proceeds to activate MUI once more. Back on the sidelines, Lemo offers another round of refreshments to everyone. When he gets to Broly, he realizes the large Saiyan is overjoyed at the battle unfolding in front. He expresses sheer amazement at the fact that he never knew fighting like that was possible. Goku, noticing Broly’s excitement, cuts his match with Gohan short and tells his son that he can rest easy knowing the Earth will be safe once he’s gone. However, Goku adds that he insists on Broly training against Gohan. As he steps off onto the sidelines, Goku tells Vegeta that the two have something in common and that Gohan’s Beast mode is just the inspiration Broly needs. As Gohan and Broly get started, Broly requests to see the Beast form right off the bat, to which Gohan complies. Broly catches several hits from Gohan Beast and begins to transform into a Super Saiyan in an explosion of ki and fury. Goku gets worried that Broly may have snapped after all but realizes that something is different this time. Broly has gone Super Saiyan and kept the pupils in his eyes (not unlike Kale in the T.o.P). Vegeta expresses pride in Broly for being able to get control over his anger. As Gohan and Broly continue to fight, Whis asks Beerus if Gohan is a suitable candidate for the next G.o.D. The destroyer answers, “No way. Not a chance. Destruction isn’t in the cards for someone that strait-laced.” As the match between the rage-driven Saiyans grows ever longer, Vegeta can no longer contain his excitement for battle. He yells at Gohan that he demands a duel with him (much to the young man’s confusion). Goten and Trunks defuse and excitedly ask Broly to take them on, who nervously accepts their request. Not wanting to be left out of the action, Goku hurries after the other Saiyans as they all engage in a big battle royale that ensues mostly off-page. By the end of it, the party of Saiyan warriors is in a crater on their backs as they’ve completely worn each other out. Everyone on Beerus’ planet then has a meal together, as Lemo had it ready just in time for the Saiyans to finish sparring. The Red Ribbon army schmucks are questioned as to why they are there in the first place. Having witnessed what their enemies are capable of, Carmine frantically lies and says they just came to apologize for their previous actions. Once everyone’s finished, Goku teleports everyone headed to Earth by using Piccolo’s energy. After confirming they’ve arrived on Earth, Carmine and his lackey drive off in a flash Sensing Piccolo’s newfound power, Goku naturally asks for the Namekian to show it off. Piccolo turns him down and tells Goku that he has to pick up Pan from school with Gohan. What follows is an exchange that… well… I’ll let you interpret it: Goku: 🤨 “Pan?” Everyone else: 😱😱😨😨😱 Vegeta: “You’re an utter disgrace! She’s your own grandchild!”😡 Goku: “Huh?! Right! Of course she is.”😀 Piccolo: “You’re coming with us to make up for that.”😡 Goku: “Sure. Happy to.”🙂 We wrap things up by cutting back to where we began this epilogue as Carmine and the RR soldier drive further away from our cast. Carmine proclaims that he’s abandoning the RR Army’s cause as there’s no money to be made through world domination and that he’s decided to allocate the remaining resources of Red Pharmaceuticals to R&D. The panels of the final scene contain zero speech bubbles. Gohan and Piccolo arrive to pick Pan up from school, much to the little girl’s delight. She notices Goku waiting around and looking off in some other direction. She seems to ask her father who Goku is, to which Gohan gives her some sort of explanation. Goku looks over to his granddaughter and waves hi, and she responds by trying to kick him in the back of the head. Goku blocks Pan’s sneak attack with a smile on his face, which causes Pan to smile back in return. Goku and his granddaughter then line up to race and fly off into the sky, with Gohan concernedly taking off after them. The last two panels are of Piccolo waving to Pan’s teacher and flying off, but they are drawn in a way that makes it seem like he’s waving goodbye to the audience. This wave goodbye was Toriyama’s final correction on Toyotaro’s work for the DBS manga before he passed on.

2025-02-04 23:22:50 +0000 UTCAt last, we’ve truly reached the end of this long road. Now you two get to wait with the rest of us for more Super, assuming that’s how Dragon Ball continues forward. Now that we’ve made it here, I wanted to transcribe the last few chapters of the DBS manga, as they serve as much more of an “ending” than Super Hero does. I had pondered the idea of straight-up novelizing them bc I felt like they deserved that treatment, but personal time constraints and my limited experience in writing to that degree had me decide against it. So, I’ve cooked up this summary that tries to retell chapters 101-103. Tried my best to keep it as concise as possible while trying to maintain the humor and action featured in the original work. I’ve also taken care to remove any details relating to the Moro and Granolah arcs. This will likely be the largest undertaking I’ll do for this channel for quite some time. With that being said, below this very comment is the remainder of DBS’ story (until we get that one-shot manga later this month, but shhh). I’ve decided to put it in a reply so people who aren’t interested won’t have to get blown up by clicking “see more”. Hope you enjoy!

2025-02-04 23:22:21 +0000 UTCHeres the full quote: "By the way, the subtitle is "Super Hero". I totally forgot that the film's main title is "Dragon Ball Super", so there ended up being two "supers". I guess everyone thought I had done this on purpose, because nobody pointed it out to me (laughs). So it's my fault that the "Super" is so repetitive." I think it's pretty funny that not one person asked him about the title, but thinking about it would you really want to be the one to tell Akria Toriyama that he messed up.

2025-02-04 23:20:12 +0000 UTCSome primers on Piccolo and Gohan’s new transformations: - Piccolo (Power Awakened): This power-up that causes Piccolo’s skin to change from green to a more yellowish hue is rather similar to Gohan’s Potential Unleashed form he obtained from the Elder Kai, bringing out his latent power. Given the similarities, it wouldn’t be wrong to call him “Ultimate Piccolo” like we do with “Ultimate Gohan”. - Orange Piccolo: A great power given to him by Shenron as a “bit extra”. The sigil that appears on his back in this form has been speculated to represent an Ajisa tree, the symbol of Namekian pride. His skin turning orange and eyes turning red have also been speculated to symbolize Piccolo’s greater connection to the Dragon Balls (which have the same color), though I feel this connection is just a coincidence. - Giant Piccolo: This ability of Piccolo’s has not been used since his fight with Goku back in OGDB. As Piccolo suggests, there are very few situations where this ability makes sense to use. Unlike the Great Ape form, he doesn’t get an increase in power or durability (though his speed remains about the same), which just makes it easier to hit him. It only made sense to use it on Cell Max so he could have an easier time restraining him for Gohan. - Gohan Beast: As you can probably tell by the elongated white hair and red eyes, this form is not meant to be connected to Ultra Instinct. In the manga, Whis actually states that this form is NOT a Super Saiyan form or a “divine technique” and is a power unique to Gohan. While the Beast form has never been explained outright, fans have come to assume that it’s meant to be an amplification of Gohan’s Ultimate/Mystic form, and the ""true"" unleashing of his latent power. He's Ultimate(r) Gohan.

2025-02-04 23:17:39 +0000 UTCLike many groups of characters in Dragon Ball, Dr. Gero’s family has their own name pun scheme. Each member of their family is named after puns relating to puking/throwing up. Pretty nasty for Dragon Ball standards, but I guess they’re villains so it’s fitting… right? - Dr. Gero: “Gero” means puke in Japanese - Gero’s wife, Vomi: Vomit - Gero’s son, Gevo: Japanese onomatopoeia for throwing up. - Dr. Hedo: “Hedo” also means puke in Japanese

2025-02-04 23:15:19 +0000 UTCLike Battle of Gods, this movie was retold through an arc in the DBS manga over a year after this movie had come out initially. The beginning of the arc began with what you could call a “prologue” to Super Hero. It revolved around Goten and Trunks becoming heroes known as “Saiyaman X-1” and “Saiyaman X-2”. Like the Great Saiyaman, they take on the roles of vigilantes who fight crime while posing and saying catchphrases. Their personas were inspired by their favorite video game superhero “Clean God”, who fights crime while also cleaning up his community. Throughout the prologue, Goten and Trunks struggle between living the lives of high school students while also fighting earlier android models created by Dr. Hedo. These androids consist of: - The Alpha series: A horde of zombies - Beta 1: A teenage pretty boy android with a mech suit (named Beta 2). - Beta 7: An android designed to look like Elvis Presley (yes, seriously). - Dino Droid 1: A cyborg dinosaur that breathes fire. It was revealed that Dr. Hedo’s admiration for Saiyaman X-1 and X-2’s costumes served as the inspiration for the designs of Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. The reason Goten and Trunks don’t maintain these personas in the movie is that their studies were suffering as a result, for which Chi Chi gave them hell. There was also more story regarding the love triangle between Trunks, Mai, and Future Trunks, and it was just as weird as ever. Please Toyotarou, just let it die.

2025-02-04 23:13:57 +0000 UTCYou might think that Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is a rather stupid name when you read it out loud. Well, the reasoning behind the title is just as stupid. In an interview, Toriyama admitted that he completely forgot the main title was “Dragon Ball Super” and not just “Dragon Ball”, so the double “Super” was completely unintentional. Toriyama’s memory gets blamed for a lot of things (even for things with no actual evidence of him forgetting), but come on man lol.
JT
2025-02-04 23:13:33 +0000 UTCAccording to an interview with Dragon Ball’s executive producer Akio Iyoku, Toriyama had not originally planned for Gohan to feature as a main star in this movie. Toriyama had initially planned for Super Hero to only focus on Piccolo, but Iyoku had insisted on Gohan being a co-star. It’s assumed that this was in response to a surge in fan feedback relating to Gohan’s absence from DBS: Broly. Iyoku’s decisions such as this one have seen mixed reactions among fans. Some enjoy what comes from his influence, while others feel like he’s far too concerned about delivering fan service instead of moving the story forward.
JT
2025-02-04 23:12:58 +0000 UTCThis movie is the one that Toriyama had the most influence over when it comes to writing, and it really shows. IMO this film has the most balance when it comes to action and humor.
JT
2025-02-04 23:12:43 +0000 UTCDBS Super Hero is one of the greatest examples of 3D anime IMO, and showed that the idea of creating one shouldn’t be ruled out as "inherently" awful. While I do prefer the 2D style of DBS Broly, I wouldn’t mind seeing another big DB production animated fully in 3D if it’s done up like this movie.
