Seeing Kens excitement for the possibility of seeing Toph gave me overwhelming joy cause thats how i was when i first saw this episode.

Yup, Authoritative Parenting and Permissive Parenting are both extremes, finding the middle ground between the two is the way (easier said than done).

I always forget about Six Days, Seven Nights. To be fair, I haven't seen it in over 20 years, but still. You're quite welcome.

Wow, we didn't piece together that Suyin was voiced by Anne Heche. We remember her in Volcano and Six Days, Seven Nights with Harrison Ford (among other performances). Thanks for sharing this fun trivia!

Bethany and Ken

Now you know what I meant when I said Toph's upbringing affected her life choices back in The Last Airbender, she gave too much freedom to her daughters because she had too little freedom. A little too much hands off parenting is bad, a right balance is best.

I would agree with the assessment on Lin. In fact, I believe Korra made the smart choice of getting Opal because she knew Lin would never tell her anything anyway. So why not try a family member who'd you hope Lin did not have any antagonistic feelings towards. Who knew Lin would react so hostile to her niece? In fact, I'm sure Korra thought she could get Lin to open up about what happened through Opal. Lin and Korra don't exactly have a close bond.

No, it’s explicitly an airbending skill. In addition to Jinora telling Kai it’s “an advanced airbending move-“ it is confirmed as such in various comics and the official Avatar RPG. It’s further reinforced by the air nomad Mangal in the Kyoshi novels. Aside from all the explicit statements that spiritual projection is airbending exclusive, it’s also backed up by never having any non-airbender accomplish it.

Hell Yeah Gaming

I dont thing astral projection/spirit connections is met to be limited to airbending its just that they tend to be the most levelheaded out of all the groups so they can do it most often.

"Naga!" Can tell this might be the best episode intro for you guys. "If we don't [meet Toph], I'm burning this place down." Valid. VA Fun Fact: Suyin was voiced by the late Anne Heche. I don't know if there's anything you'd be familiar with, but I know her best from the 1997 movie, Volcano. "They are the cutest couple ever." What was that, 7 minutes? Ken is a natural-born shipper. He's what the youth call, I believe, "Romance-pilled." Same, honestly. The King (Varrick) has returned! I legitimately thought the toast comment was a play on the firebending. Nice accident, Ken. Dang, there's a character that appeared here that didn't any lines yet, and I am SO excited to give a VA Fun Fact on them. It will likely be one of the more mind-blowing ones I give. Now, the most important question...Zaheer; hair or no hair?

Couldn't agree more with your discussion at the end. Also loved that Mako gave Bolin the hint, such a good big brother moment. Can't wait to see what Zaheer is doing and why. From the text he found, the word that stuck for me was "void". Wonder if it is referencing what Aang went to in ATLA when unlocking chakras. Just spitballing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Aangs daughter is named Kya, named after Kataras mother. It shouldn't be a surprise that she can fight. She is daughter of Katara, the greatest waterbender master. And Aang of course.

You have seen a sub-discipline of airbending, but it’s one that most people feel should be accessible to everyone and it isn’t clearly communicated in the show that it’s an airbending discipline, it’s all elaborated on in side materials. It’s astral projection, when you see Jinora separate her spirit from her physical body. Regarding Lin, she’s not really being “prickly,” she’s being outright hostile. She is clearly lashing out at anyone and everyone at the smallest provocation, so I can’t really agree with your assessment that nobody has taken the time to try to get her side of the story because every attempt to broach the matter is shut down with pure aggression. Yes Korra has known Lin for a while now, but they were never particularly close, and now Lin is being abusive with no provocation, including to a child. It’s also not fair to compare this situation to Unilaq, because people seem to forget all the time that Unilaq was Korea’s uncle, he wasn’t some stranger who came out of nowhere that she got attached to, she was trusting a family connection.
