Dragon Ball Daima Episode 3 Full Reaction

Comments

I’m watching the reactions rn so forgive me if you address this in a later video I haven’t gotten to yet but Daima actually takes place before Super and right after the Buu saga (that’s why they said “happy back to existence day Earth” in ep1 because it was after Kid Buu blew it up) it’s also why the Pilaf gang is absent and Gohan is still off in school studying.

Dorian Cantu

I share this sentiment. It felt like I was a kid again. I loved it

Tal Rubin

Yeah if you guys are interested in seeing Super at its most crunching schedule, whip up episode 24. I don’t think anything apart from a 20 second sequence was on-model in the entire episode. I commend the crew for being able to even remain alive after those deadlines. I’m not even joking, that stress is lethal

Hohoho

To be fair, you guys also didn't see the first two arcs of Super within the show proper (and for good reason). They HEAVILY suffered from the tight deadlines and it was obvious. It genuinely had people questing by episode 5 if the franchise would ever be able to recover.

Shadowpunch13

Wouldn't say it's really "additional" so much as it's just me recapping stuff, but you're welcome nonetheless.

JT

LOVE all this additional context to fill in our knowledge gaps. Thank you so much!

Bethany and Ken

Didn't know that some super episodes were finished only hours before airing?! That's crazy but also super impressive given the quality of the show.

Bethany and Ken

I find it incredibly ironic that mere moments ago you make a comment saying, “Don’t fuck with Dragon Ball fans we don’t watch our own show,” yet here you are relying to my comment, taking a ridiculous leap since nowhere in my original post, did I suggest that DnD were going to cover more Kakarot. It’s like you said, “Gee, how can I reply to this comment of Shadowpunch13’s in the most contrarian way possible, not unlike most of my other replies?” EDIT: JT, pay this no mind.

Shadowpunch13

They probably arent even gonna revisit Kakarot. They said they were done after they finished the Cell Saga.

REDE

Ah, okay.

Cilla W

I never noticed the waffle planet until this rewatch, man it looks good 😂

Cynergy

If the burgers weren't black, I'd go for the burgers even that waffle planet looked good 🤣

Cynergy

I never watched Daima, but this definitely gives me Dragon Quest vibes, something that Toriyama also worked on.

Pyrodragon3993

@JT that scene had me on the floor in a chokehold, omg

At this point I doubt there's gonna be much more than "Oh he can only do this in the demon realm" or "This requires magic, of which he's run out of after the fight," if even that much. I personally don't really care at this point if Daima and Super are separate continuities, if anything it gives them more freedom for later, depending on how Toei/Toyotarou want to continue the franchise. Also Shin and Kibito are NOT re-fusing by the end of this series lmao.

Shadowpunch13

Again, this is a 20 episode show that been in the works since 2019. Super was week to week and some episodes were only finished hours before airing. Singling out Super to compare it to Daima is in poor taste, knowing full well that OG and Z wouldn’t have put effort into a bar fight choreography either.

Hohoho

Nah I doubt they’ll have enough time next episode to explain anything considering what still needs to happen, and they wouldn’t need to if it doesn’t tie into Super

Hohoho

Bro Daima is like the perfect series for a JRPG. Especially with the fight that's going on rn 😆. As a Dragon Quest and Chrono series fan it warms my heart.

JT

Speaking of Star Wars an SW x DB crossover would be a fun series 😂. Freeza and Palpatine battling over who the true emperor is would certainly be entertaining lmao.

Austin Collier

@Hohoho We'll see. There's a couple of tidbits left that the final episode could use to help resolve that imo. Won't say much else out of consideration for spoilers. Ya could be right tho.

JT

It becomes most obvious with this episode, especially the bar fight, but I absolutely love the soundtrack for Daima. It's done by newcomer to the DB series, Kōsuke Yamashita. Suffice to say, his compositions feel very "JRPG-like" which I think very much fits the idea of a "grandiose adventure in a foreign land." The song that plays about 20 minutes into the episode absolutely sounds like it could be a regular battle theme for a DB inspired RPG. Makes me excited for what the Kakarot DLC has in store.

Shadowpunch13

I seriously doubt this takes place before Super anymore. I think the events in 19 probably prove, better than anything, that this show follows a different continuity than Super does, despite some references to Super lore.

Hohoho

@victoria t No kidding! Dragon Ball has never made me laugh out loud, but that moment almost got me there. Had the dumbest grin on my face.

JT

FUNNIEST SCENE IN DB HISTORY YOU KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT 🤣🤣🤣

victoria t

19:40 This is one of the things I love most about Daima. Even a little bar fight scene like this has significantly better animation and choreography than most of what DBS gave us. As a side note, those Demon Realm burgers look incredible, and I want two of them right goddamn now.

JT

18:23 Yeah, Toriyama was a massive Star Wars fan. I'll be touching more on the subject throughout OGDB, but you can totally tell by the way he designed vehicles and aircrafts. One of his favorite past times when he was creating Dr. Slump and OGDB was to build Star Wars model kits. That's one of the things I loved about Toriyama. Guy was such a geek like the rest of us and wasn't afraid to express it.

JT

You’re not alone. I thoroughly enjoyed this episode for multiple reasons. It was probably also the first time I was ever like “f-ing saiyans!” I know how saiyans are, but I guess I was caught off guard. Sometimes I forget this takes place prior to Super. Also, Masako is the goat!

Cilla W

It was in a later episode. I'm just trying to write these as a sort of "play by play" of each episode. 😉

JT

I could have sworn it was mentioned or at least hinted at why the glinds left. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I don’t want to say for spoilers, but we’ll see if it comes up again.

Cilla W

Real talk, I've never been so captivated by vocal performances, art and animation, and overall spectacle like this from modern Dragon Ball in quite a while. Say what you will about the story but only really Super: Broly had given me this level of goosebumps.

Shadowpunch13

Despite me only preferring Nozawa for the younger versions of the Son family's members, she's the Dragon Ball VA I respect the most. So many roles that she still continues to play at the great age of 88.

JT

We point to that episode if there is any Masako Nozawa slander. We will NOT be tolerating that shit anymore.

Shadowpunch13

Holy hell, episode 19 of Daima. I’m not gonna go into what happened ofc, so I’ll just leave my thoughts here. While I think the pacing could’ve been better, that was my only immediate problem. Dragon Ball has never made me want to laugh, yell, and tear up in such quick succession in the 10+ years I’ve been a DB fan as in today’s episode. And I don’t say that lightly. Honestly, I come off as more amped up in my comments, but I don’t get emotional easily in person. I’m sure it didn’t quite hit the same for everyone here, but god damn it man, I just love this series so much. Don’t know what else to say.

JT

Throughout the years, filler episodes and video games of the Dragon Ball franchise have made their own depictions of what the Demon Realm is meant to look like, as Toriyama never made any designs for it back in OGDB, DBZ, or DBS. With our entry into the third Demon World, we’re finally getting to see the Demon Realm under his vision.

JT

Lore Recap Compilation 3 - Throughout Universe 7, multiple Sir Warps exist. Any of them can be used to travel to the Demon Realm, provided you have the proper PIN code and pointy ears. - There exists a large tunnel in the Demon Realm that connects each Demon World to each other. At some point, the three worlds were segregated after someone used barriers of light to seal the tunnel off. Only denizens of the first or second Demon World are allowed passage across the three worlds through Sir Warp. - Glorio suggests that most denizens of the Demon Realm reside in the Third World post segregation, leading them to be considered as “commoners”. - The atmosphere of the third Demon World is difficult to breathe and move in for those not native to the land. Most of the land is comprised of floating islands, among which are volcanoes that emit the gas that makes the air so rough. Toward the bottom of these islands lies the “Sea of Darkness”, where the concentration of gas gets so high that anyone who falls in will die instantly. - The Supreme Kai have now been identified as a race that originated from the Demon Realm known as “Glinds”. The Glinds lived in the second Demon World. How or why they left the Demon Realm is not yet clear.
