The Legend of Korra S3:E13 Full Reaction

Comments

Season 3 is my personal favorite. Zaheer & the Red Lotus were some of the strongest & interesting villains we've met. The journey of bringing the air nation back is beautiful & fun. The finale also does set a tone for the next season & the sort of journey it's going to be for Korra.

Jinora beat her grandpa Aang by 1 year in master airbending

Thanks for sharing your top five characters with us, love hearing how episodes and characters hit the community! ๐Ÿ™‚

Bethany and Ken

"Lucky with a Bucky" ๐Ÿ˜‚ love it! And great point on the foliage ๐Ÿ‚ "5. President Raiko. 10/10 Politician. No Notes. No, obviously, that's a joke." ๐Ÿ˜‚ "Honestly, I wanted to put her at number 4, but...it's hard to forgive her for destroying Naga's ball like that." ๐Ÿ˜” in memoriam, naga's ball ๐ŸŽพ

Bethany and Ken

What an excellent in depth analysis, thank you so much for sharing it with us. And yes, great point on her mental health journey in the wake of being so physically incapacitated. It is definitely a different kind of battle to see an avatar have to face!

Bethany and Ken

This is a great point! Feels like often people are looking for the "hero" to come and save us, when in reality we can all be heroes and, in working together, save ourselves and each other at the same time. ::sigh:: if only humans were willing to work together instead of against each other, what a wonderful world it could be.

Bethany and Ken

Thank you for the heads up!

Bethany and Ken

BTW you two The Legend of Korra will be leaving Netflix on April 16th.

Still need the watch the ATLA reactions, but this season was always my favorite I need to hurry up before they finish, so I can be here for the climax.

I liked the way this season ended, even though it was on a sad note. And even though Zaheer is such a dick, he was definitely a badass villain and was just skilled as hell, flying and everything. I always saw Season 3 as the season that corrected Season 2's flaws: Better villain Better character development for our main cast Better utilization of side characters (especially Varik) Better plot & animation And I can go on, but I agree with both of you guys that Season 1 is still the best, Amon is such a gangster of a villain no question. My top 5 starting from #1 would be Korra, Asami, Bolin, Lin, and Tenzen/Jinora, just like Bethany lol. Looking forward to next season wrapping up the series, and you guys couldn't have chosen a better time to watch TLOK, with them announcing a new avatar series in the near future. Definitely looking forward to how that story plays out

Kora is my favorite character. Loved her strengths and weakness, but I definitely believe the real beauty of her character is what she tells the audience. She shouldn't be the only one making these sacrifices and tough choices for the world. She is only one person. Maybe with incredibly power and her personal durability, which constantly gets put to its limits each season, but she just one person especially now. The whole avatar reset that happen in season 2. ๐Ÿฅบ Give poor Korra some time to breath.

RyokoTheBeast

One reason why most fans have s3 as their favorite as well as it being the best season.

Logan Prime

For next season keep in mind they are officially adults. So you will notice a time jump.

Really like this episode's ending. Korra has always felt somewhat meh to me, mostly from her being cocky and brash (brash in a cocky way). Don't get me wrong there's parts I like about her character, but this last season and ending felt more "real" in a way. I want her and the gang to of course have a happy ending but her actually facing consequences in this way made this the best finale for Tlok in my opinion. To explain further, I think the reason why I liked it so much is that I can relate more with pain and being "mopey" rather than the super confident, barely any flaws type character. Also she looked really badass in the fight against Zaheer! Hope you somewhat understand where I'm coming from. This is not an attack against the character or any other opinion XD

Gazan and Ming-Hua are dead dead lol, that's why they only talked about Zaheer being back in prison. The "other Red Lotus members" that they talked about were just basic followers like Amon's Equalists. Jinora is definitely a badass, Aang would be so proud of her. She looked so much like him with her head shaved. I want to give a shoutout to Korra's dad, Tonraq. Aang didn't have a parent since he was raised by the monks so it really adds a different feel to the show for Korra to have both her parents around actively in her life and worrying about her. And Tonraq fought tooth and nail for his daughter but she still died briefly in his arms, that scene absolutely gutted me. And the fact that she reached for him in her final moments and worried about HIM being alive when she came back shows just how close they are. I really liked the danger of the poison this season and how the introduced new metals as like an obstacle for metal benders. They had platinum restraints/cells and then mercury poison (I think it was mercury??). This kind of normalizes metal benders and make them seem a bit less overpowered than they do sometimes. Korra having to heal from what she went through reminds me a lot of Yang's recovery arc in RWBY and I really love when shows humanize their heroes and show that even they can't always bounce back on a dime. I don't think I would like shows like Avatar and RWBY if they didn't add that element to it. My top 5 characters for this season are: - Korra - Mako - Lin and Su as a shared slot - Bolin - Jinora and Tenzin as a shared slot Honorable mentions: - Asami - Kya - Bumi - Zuko - Pabu and Naga

Lady RedShee

While it ends off on a bit of a bitter note this is honestly one of my favorite episodes of LOK, it starts an arc for Korra that hit me the hardest out of any of them because it goes over something rarely touched upon in animated shows, especially for the time, mental health. What we see here in the third season finale is a culmination of the how every single villain has attacked her mentally, not just physically. A lot of people over the years have pointed out how the poisoning scene really has a lot of parallels to sexual assault, and the mental effects that can have through the violation of her body. On top of that itself, it also brings back the memory of the torture all her other adversaries have brought on her. While Aang went through plenty of hard decisions and harrowing moments, Korra has been almost universally disliked by the people she helps that aren't incredibly close to her. Again and again every single villain has also had A POINT, even if it's not a great point they do have reasons for their actions. All Amon wanted was equality, all Unaloq wanted was a connection to the spirit world once again, and all the Red Lotus wanted was an end to oppression. They took it too far in all cases, but because they had a point there were plenty of people who thought they were in the right, who wanted them to win. Her victories also always came at a cost that the regular people around don't like her, because she doesn't solve every single issue of theirs. Sure there were plenty of people who didn't like the Avatar in Aangs time, it was mostly because of disconnect or they were just being lied to/scared to not be against them, but almost everyone that wasn't the fire nation itself(cause propaganda mostly) hated the fire nation taking over the world, and knew Ozai was bad, they just couldn't stop it. I think the mental anguish all of this has brought hasn't really ever been addressed, because there's always another issue, but now the poison has also given her a chance to process it because she CAN'T do anything else. Another thing the poison has done is physically beaten her down, she can't even move the wheelchair on her own, and needs someone else to push it. This is a big deal for Korra who is always known for being head strong and powerful enough to get through all these tough situations, and now in her own eyes she has basically nothing. What is ironically the final nail in the mental coffin for Korra is the final moments of the show, when Tenzin announces the airbenders will pick up her slack while she recovers. He means it as a "We're here for you, take your time to recover and don't worry", but in her state she hears it as "We're here to do your job, so don't worry you're not actually needed!". This all culminates in the final moment of the episode where she starts blankly crying at what should be a joyful moment, she is the most beaten down she's ever been and she has to face it, to her she isn't needed any more as the Avatar and that's all she's ever known how to be, even since she was a tiny child she knew that's what she was and she spent her life in the role. To believe the Avatar isn't needed for her is to believe she has no reason to exist. Excited to see your guys' reaction to my favorite season of the four and my favorite character arc that Korra goes through!

"We're a lucky couple in love." Lucky with a Bucky? "When I get out of here, none of you will survive." Ken's face was valid, girl basically just said she'll kill them all. "She can resist for long enough." She can do this all day? Me: "Huh, it's odd that they got Steve Blum in there to voice a single line as Amon." Guard with Water: *Talks* Me: "Oooooh! Good, gave him a little more work." With these rock formations, one has to wonder if this is the same mountainous area Aang fought Ozai, or at least nearby. ...where are all these leaves in the tornado coming from? There's no foliage anywhere around. "Like the Balrog did to Gandalf." Or like Jafar did to Iago. God, Jinora looks so much like her Grandfather. Broken Korra is such a powerful image. Hell, y'all even used it as the thumbnail. "I just wanted to see Varrick come in and say 'Do the thing!'" Ken is looking for anything uplifting from this episode he can. Also, would love a quality Korra Abridged. Fun Fact, actually, there was an Avatar The Last Airbender Abridged, back in the day. It only went through season 1, but it was made by GanXingBa. Gan was very quickly brought on by TeamFourStar to voice Tien, later Jeice, and even later, Android 17. He's been there since very early because of his stint with ATLA Abridged. The immediate choice of Asami for top 5 was satisfying. Pleasant to see Mako make his way back up into your ranks. A lot of people keep him away after he falls off in season 2. Dang! Zaheer made it into the season's top 5? Very surprising. I like that neither of you have Korra in there. Are you guys, when you get to the end, gonna do a "Season 4 Top 5" AND a "Series Top 5?" Honestly, I'm very curious to see how these shake out next season, since I believe season 4 has the best character writing. Season 3 is superior in terms of overall plot and villain, in my opinion, but season 4 holds supreme for the characters. I feel like you might have an actual struggle next time. "Let us know your favorites in the comments." Oh, my top 5 for the season? Hmmm 1. Jinora. Girl earned her tattoos this whole season. Utilizing that spirit walking move, whatever you wanna call it, to stealth around, save the airbenders in Ba Sing Se, find Korra in this episode, aid in the teaching of the new airbenders, and saving the baby bison? This girl crushed it! Y'know what? At the time of typing this, I had her at 2, but I'mma copy and paste her into the Number 1, instead. 2. Bolin. So happy he learned Lavabending and still psyched that I called it 12 years ago. 3. Asami. This MAY be due to hindsight, knowing what they have planned next season and how that worked into writing her for this season, but I'm trying to focus solely on this season and yeah, she deserves high praise. Girl has filled in the non-bender slot of New Team Avatar so well. Her proficiency at both hand-to-hand combat AND that gauntlet are stellar, she has all the resources and utilities because money, and she's just an overall very kind and supportive friend, especially to Korra (just LOOK at her in that last scene with Korra). Again, I have hindsight, and therefore more knowledge, more things I wanna say, but I'mma hold off until we get to the end. 4. Zaheer. I know, I know, he's absolutely rancid. As a villain, however, and especially as an antagonist and antithesis to The Avatar, symbol of peace and order, he's fantastic. He's actually very wise and educated and never gets that generic power hungry villain moment. You think of a lot of villains, especially in something like Disney movies, who start to become more unhinged in the climaxes and end up devolving into "bad guy must kill good guy no matter how insane it makes me look." Zaheer, however, almost always kept his cool. He continued to strategize, he continued to plan contingencies for when things failed, which they often did, and he remained as effective as possible from beginning to end. He had one of the coolest finishing moves of the franchise against the earth queen, and he accomplished a major part of his goal; the earth kingdom is no longer a kingdom. There is no longer any ruler of the nation because of him and the other Red Lotus members. That's, based on the maps, about a third of the world that had all sense of order upended. Credit where it's due; as far as villain goals go, he's been the most effective in accomplishing his since Fire Lord Sozin took out the airbenders. 5. President Raiko. 10/10 Politician. No Notes. No, obviously, that's a joke. 5. Lin. I considered Su or even Opal, but I feel they didn't have enough screen time to justify it. Lin had so many great moments, and so much growth, finally confronting her past after decades of bottling it up, it was great to see her come to accept love in her life, which we'd not really seen over the course of the first two seasons. Honestly, I wanted to put her at number 4, but...it's hard to forgive her for destroying Naga's ball like that. Really enjoyed your reactions this episode, and I look forward to joining y'all in season 4...the season that never aired on television.

Oooooo.... good point!

Bethany and Ken

You know Aang was such a powerful air bender when he was able to make a tornado by himself
