HexKittie

What, you don't know about the Inhumans, and Queen Medusa? Oh, then Sindel from Mortal Kombat minus the banshee screech.

Jason Rogue

Thank you for the reminder!

Bethany and Ken

Insane amount of information sharing - thank you!

Bethany and Ken

"Third one is Midna from Twilight Princess, she's an imp with basically Medusa's hair from Marvel." Not familiar with the character but that is an epic description!

Bethany and Ken

Thank you for the suggestion!

Bethany and Ken

We haven't made a firm decision but are leaning to a LetsPlay!

Bethany and Ken

The game series that the puppy is from is called Nintendogs. It was quite the hit back on the Nintendo DS that was originally conceived by Shigeru Miyamoto (the creator of Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, and many more flagship Nintendo series). It was a series of real-time simulation games focused on taking care of and playing with puppies (and sometimes cats). Since you two took such a liking to the Nintendog in the video, I figured I should suggest some content related to the series. Doesn't even have to be for a reaction. Could just be on your own time. Found a couple of retrospectives that may interest you. Link 1:https://youtu.be/JV5Madi5yr8?si=w34yLBsHQDbGU9Z4 Link 2: https://youtu.be/uvLMbXutk_I?si=9b0N7eHkkzmzQ_mJ

And with another Smash video out, I will once again suggest this as a series: Hades Misguidance

AlexThat200

I know some people have asked you to check out all the Pokémon that got into Smash, but I would hold off on those until you see all the Types videos.

AlexThat200

Zelda knowledge will still be very limited even if you play Breath of the Wild. Because all the Assists from Zelda are from past games that have no connection to Breath of the Wild. In fact, they’re in games that follow the classic Zelda gameplay of the 3D era. Where it’s all about Dungeon crawling instead of open world type stuff. Not to say those past games didn’t have large terrain you couldn’t explore. They did. But BOTW is the first true open world experience.

AlexThat200

Here’s another thing you should know if you were a constant enjoyer of Smash content. Professional players ban all items because it all relies heavily on RNG and no skill from the player. So if you ever wanted to play with a bunch of people that have experience with Smash and asked if you could have items on, they would look at you dumbfounded and say no. Stuff like this is more for the kiddies who like chaos.

AlexThat200

You gotta understand about the ones that don’t attack. The point of each match is knock your opponents off the stage. Whether it be by the sides, above, or below. And the only way to do that is keep damaging the opponent until they fly from a strong attack. For the Assist Trophies that don’t attack, they have a gimmick of either affecting the characters, stage, or the controls of the players. Basically ways for the making the player who summoned them to have an easier time to knock their opponent off the stage.

AlexThat200

If you’re interested in any more Smash Bros. content, the channel Aaronitmar has a great series about the origins of a lot of things in smash, really going to show the detail put into the game - stuff like the origins of the final smashes or alternate costumes throughout the series.

HexKittie

Ain't no way we had the same idea lol. Imma keep going with mine tho haha. Love seeing others have the same type of desire to do stuff like this here on Patreon. Good job!

JT

24:17 Speaking of Breath of the Wild, do you two know if that'll be a let's play or a stream game. I'll be completely transparent, I'm praying on my hands and knees that it's a let's play 😅. I have so many stories about that game, and it's the game that's responsible for turning me into the rambling pasionate gamer that you see before you here on Patreon. Perhaps that's selfish, but I just gotta put it out there.

JT

So technically there is a second kind of assist trophy in Smash. These are the Pokeballs. Those summon Pokemon who all do a variety of different attacks to help you. So I recommend those. Especially seeing as it's fitting with you guys doing the Pokemon reactions.

Chris Johnson

Yeah, Lethal League and ARMS aren't talked about much anymore, so I wanted to bring them up here bc they're so experimental. Everyone else already has the bigger fighting game series covered.

JT

Lethal League, I handbrake heard that name in years. Only reason I know of and played that game was Pewds and Mark playing it years ago. Mark kept knocking himself out.

Jason Rogue

HEY, THEY DIDN'T DO THE POKEMANS.

Jason Rogue

Keep in mind not all of these are meant to be some sort of spectacular "killing blow" type moves and NPCs. They're meant to help players either disrupt or damage other players as they're fighting. Hence why they're called ASSIST trophies.

JT

Oh BTW, when the screen is being manipulated, either zooming in, going up, down, left and right. That means the out of bounds are closer and easier to knock out your opponents. Don't forget Smash Bros. is all about punching your opponents out of bounds.

Jason Rogue

So for the assist trophies that you might be curious about: 0:21 Squid Sisters (Splatoon): As the camera zooms in, anyone who's not in frame will be K.Oed. Idols of the Splatoon world. 3:03 Skull Kid (Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask): Will either hide all fighters, reverse the screen, or reverse the controls, making fighting for all fighters more difficult. He's the main antagonist of that game. 3:54 Midna (LoZ: Twilight Princess): What's grabbing people is her hair. She's princess of the Twilight Realm, although stuck in that little imp body. 4:17: Ghirahim (LoZ: Skyward Sword): An antagonist who really has a thing for sticking out his tongue. 5:39 Knuckle Joe (Kirby): The original enemy that allowed Kirby to turn into Fighter Kirby 5:56 Chef Kawasaki (Kirby): The mini boss that allowed Kirby to turn into Cook Kirby 8:06 Tiki (Adult version, Fire Emblem): She's a Divine Dragon who first appeared as a little girl in the early games, but returned as an adult in another game that took place in the far future in the same universe. 8:34 Lyn (Fire Emblem): She will randomly appear and strike any fighter with a quick draw, actually kind of difficult to dodge even if you're moving. 9:35 Ashley (Wario Ware): Any opponent stuck in that cloud will have various ailments afflicted on them, like low gravity, slow speed, damage over time, etc. 10:53 Riki (Xenoblade Chronicles): A creature called a Nopon, and yes those are wing hand things. That little sock puppet thing is actually a Nopon weapon... kind of. He does several things, boosts fighters' attack and launch power with "Happy Happy", puts them to sleep with "Bedtime", freezes opponents with "Freezinate", pulls in items with "Yoink", or heals all fighters with "You Can Do It!" You can learn more about him once you watch the Xenoblade Chronicles cutscenes. *wink wink* 11:41 The game you're thinking of is Sheriff. 13:40 That thing is called Sukapon from Joy Mech Fight. That's uh.... that's all I got really. 15:27 Vince (Art Academy): Draws over opponents doing damage over time while also tripling damage taken. 16:47 Yuri Kozukata (Fatal Frame): Comes from a survival horror where your only means of defense is taking pictures of spirits to damage and/or pacify them. 19:32 That's Zero from Megaman X 21:01 That's Akira from Virtua Fighter the first 3D fighting game ever released.

Pyrodragon3993

The little Witch girl is Ashley from Wario Ware. She slows and poisons your opponents.

Jason Rogue

So, Skull Kid (the zelda character with a great laugh) did two things. The first thing was turn fighters invisible. Second one was flip the screen. The second Kirby one is actually named Fighter Joe, so Ken asking if they brought in a Jojo's character is... technically correct. The girl with black pigtails, Ashley, summons a cloud that causes slow motion and does small damage. The demon wrestler moves the screen and, by extension, the death barrier.

DementisXYZ

Legend of Zelda assist trophies. First one is Skull Kid from Majora's Mask, originally from Ocarina of Time. Skull Kid with Majora's Mask makes you invisible and the opponent invisible, reverses your opponent's screen and controls. Second is the Moon from Majora's Mask, crashes down on your opponents like he does to Termina in Majora's Mask. Third one is Midna from Twilight Princess, she's an imp with basically Medusa's hair from Marvel. Fourth trophy is Girahim from Skyward Sword, loyal blade of Demise. Yes, he turns into a blade. I'm not joking.

Jason Rogue

Love when you two watch crossover games like this, bc now I get to do primers and share my knowledge on all these IPs I enjoy. I'll post them as I watch for Assist Trophies you two need help with: 0:27 Callie & Marie, The Squid Sisters (Splatoon): These two cause the screen to zoom in, making it easier for fighters to get knocked off the screen. Would like to one day suggest more Splatoon content to ya'll. 3:54 Midna (The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess): Grabs opponents and throws them, while dealing darkness damage. She can be KO'd if she takes enough damage. Midna is considered by many to be Link's greatest companion across the Zelda series. She's the ruler of the Twilight Realm, who was overthrown and turned into the impish form you see here. 4:19 Ghirahim (The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword): Fights with a sword and throwing knives. He will teleport back onstage if he goes over the edge, but he can be KO'd if he takes enough damage. He's the most prominent villain in Skyward Sword, and a self-proclaimed Demon Lord that has a sick ass theme and cool boss fights. 5:05 Mother Brain (Metroid): Fires a series of projectiles that she used in Metroid and Super Metroid. Mother Brain is the most classic of all Metroid villains aside from Ridley. 5:19 Nightmare (Kirby's Adventure): Turns the arena pitch black, making it difficult for either player to know where they are. He's the main villain of Kirby's adventure, who attempted to infect the Fountain of Dreams in order to spread nightmares to Dream Land's populace. 5:40 Knuckle Joe (Kirby Super Star): Delivers a series of Vulcan Jabs to his opponents and finishes with either a Smash Punch or an uppercut attack named Rising Break. One of my favorite Kirby enemies, since swallowing him gives Kirby the Fighter ability. 5:57 Chef Kawasaki (Kirby Super Star): Damages foes by throwing cooking utensils and boiling them in a pot. No, he was not mentioned in the Kirby lore videos. Sometimes a boss and sometimes a regular enemy. Swallowing him grants Kirby the Cook ability. 6:23 Andross (Star Fox): Spits out tiles that will hone in and damage players. Not so threatening on their own, but can be rather annoying when having to defend against them AND other players. 6:55 Krystal (Star Fox Adventures): Wanders around the stage and attacks opponents with her staff. Can deal freezing damage. She was originally going to be the main star of a canceled N64 game known as "Dinosaur Planet" until the project was transformed into a Star Fox title. 7:14 Samurai Goroh (F-Zero): A rival to Captain Falcon who Slashes his swords while chasing opponents. 7:33 Starman (EarthBound aka Mother 2): Teleports around shooting lightning bolts, and can be KO'd if taken enough damage. This guy's a classic EarthBound enemy. One of these days I'll make a push to introduce you guys to EarthBound and all its strangeness. 7:56 Jeff (EarthBound): Fires Shoots 5 homing rockets from his Multi Bottle Rocket 5 invention. In EarthBound, these rockets deal so much damage that they make otherwise tough bosses into light work. 8:07 Tiki (Fire Emblem): Transforms into a dragon, attacking with large flame breaths from the air. Tiki is a "manakete", a race of dragonkin who are able to shapeshift between humanoid and dragon forms. 8:35 Lyn (Fire Emblem): She delivers a single, powerful strike focused on the nearest opponent. Quite the fan-favorite character of Fire Emblem series veterans. 8:48 Black Knight: (Fire Emblem): Walks around the stage slowly, attacking any nearby opponents with his sword. A major antagonist of Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. 9:13 Phosphora (Kid Icarus Uprising): Flies around quickly and shoots lightning bolts. She can be attacked, which will cause her to flinch, and she can be KO'd if she takes enough damage. One of the captains of Viridi's "Forces of Nature", who has a sassy personality. Likes to flirt with Pit and insult Palutena. 9:36 Ashley (WarioWare): Creates a cursed zone that gives players disruptive effects such as slow motion. One of Wario's associates. She's a young witch-in-training who lives in a haunted mansion. 10:00 Burrowing Snagret (Pikmin): Emerges from the ground and wildly pecks at opponents, then hides underground before reappearing at another location. A long reoccurring enemy in the Pikmin series, which another series I'd like to get you two more familiar with. 10:30 Kapp'n (Animal Crossing): Appears with his bus, which he drives across the screen. Any fighter he contacts will be trapped, dragging them off-screen. My favorite Animal Crossing character of all time. Guy's a shanty-singing sailor and driver who loves talking about his family. 10:54 Riki (Xenoblade Chronicles): Uses various Arts to inflict statuses such as sleep, freeze, healing, and tripping. Being the big XC fan I am, I'll restrain myself about saying much more for now. I'll just leave you with the fact that this little fella is a 40-year-old man with a wife and 11 children. 11:35 Sheriff (from the arcade game Sheriff): Sheriff walks around in the air, shooting at opponents with his pistol. The pistol's shots can travel in 8 different directions. Judging by your reaction, it seems you're more familiar with him than I am. 11:56 Devil (Devil World): Points in various directions while moving the camera and stage boundaries. Was the main antagonist of an old game called "Devil World", who behaved much like how he does in Smash. 12:21 Takamaru (The Mysterious Murasame Castle): Throws his pinwheel knife rooks at opponents and slashes them several times with his katana. Was the protagonist of an old Famicom game. Guess that means many of us Western folk wouldn't be too familiar with him. 12:40 Dr. Wright (SimCity SNES): Summons buildings from within the ground to damage players. In his game, he was an adviser that gave players tips on how to manage their city. 12:50 Flies and Hand (Mario Paint): A hand holding a fly swatter moves around to swat the flies buzzing around the screen, damaging any enemy that gets in the way of its swatting. It seems that Bethany played Mario Paint growing up. The "big fly" you fought in that game was named King Watinga. Never played it myself due to being too baby, but have heard and seen many good things about it. 13:11 Sablé Prince (Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru): Turns into either a frog or a snake. Can only be KO'd in his human form. Was a main character of a Japanese game whose name translates to "The Frog For Whom the Bell Tolls". Was never officially localized. 13:44 Sukapon (Joy Mech Fight): Moves around with his arms raised, launching the head, grabs and tosses, or rolling forwards quickly to attack opponents. From another Famicom game that hasn't been localized. Sukapon is a robot made by Dr. Little Emon and Dr. Ivan Walnuts. When Dr. Walnuts declared his intent to rule the world, Dr. Emon used Sukapon to defeat Dr. Walnuts's robots and stop his evil scheme. After an epic battle on the moon and a change of heart by Dr. Walnuts (apparently due to a split-personality), Sukapon returned to a career in "owarai", a style of Japanese comedy. 14:07 Isaac (Golden Sun): Utilizes various abilities to smash and lift enemies off stage. Isaac's series. Golden Sun, is one I've had on the backlog for quite some time. It's an incredibly underrated JRPG series that hasn't seen a new release in a while. 14:28 Starfy (The Legendary Starfy): Wanders around and spin attacks opponents. Starfy here is the prince of the Pufftop Kingdom, which is found high in the sky above the ocean. His series hasn't been done much justice in terms of localization. A shame, because I'd love to be able to play them in English w/o having to use more unconventional means. 14:50 Nintendog (nintendogs): A toy poodle blocks the screen while looking cute. Since Bethany took a great liking to this one, I've dedicated a separate comment to it down here. 15:09 Dr. Kawashima (Brain Age): Flings numbers onto the stage that can be attacked to knock them around. When they add up to 10 or more, they cause an explosion, with a sum of exactly 10 causing an even larger explosion. Ryuta Kawashima is a real neuroscientist from Japan, who is known for his studies on the mapping of the various regions of the human brain and the effects of age on one's ability to learn. His series of "Train Your Brain" books were adapted into games by Nintendo. 15:27 Vince (Art Academy): Draws large drawings of various objects, one following each opponent in the foreground, hiding them and slowly damaging them. The damage will be tripled if an opponent attacks. Art Academy was a charming little series of DS and 3DS games. Taught and encouraged young players how to draw. 16:00 Nikki (Swapnote): Doodles various obstacles on the stage. She was the host of Nintendo's old messaging apps Swapnote and Swapdoodle. She would would introduce the player to the application, give tips, encourage the player, and provide Nintendo-related news updates. She would send players a goodbye letter when closing the apps. How nice. 16:25 Dillon (Dillon's Rolling Western): Attacks opponents by rolling at them. After a couple times, he charges up a very powerful rolling attack that does a large knockback. Dillon's series is a very underrated one. It's a cross between tower defense and standard action games. 16:49 Yuri Kozukata (Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water): Uses her camera to stun opponents and poison them, leaving them vulnerable to attacks. Fatal Frame is a lesser-known horror series with a genius gimmick. In order to deal with the enemy ghosts, you must let them come up close and take their pictures. The quality of the picture determines how effectively the ghosts are exorcised. 17:14 Arcade Bunny (Nintendo Badge Arcade): Operates a giant claw machine in order to grab opponents. This guy was the mascot of a free to start Nintendo 3DS game that could let you earn badges that can be used as decorations on the system's home screen. 17:28 Spring Man (ARMS): Jumps around and attacks with extended punches. One of the fighters in ARMS, and is arguably the closest thing it has to a poster boy. I just so happened to have a suggestion related to his game below this comment. 18:10 Bomberman (Bomberman): Drop bombs which create an cross shaped explosion. It is possible for him to be affected by his own bombs. 21:50 Rodin (Bayonetta): Attacks with giant arms similar to Bayonetta's Wicked Weaves, as well with attacks resembling aerial Heel Slide and heel drop. Before disappearing, he spawns a random item and tosses it at the summoner. In Bayonetta, Rodin's a weapons and items shop NPC. 22:18 Shovel Knight (Shovel Knight): Runs and jumps around, using his Shovel Drop to bounce off of obstacles. He also digs, which flings dirt at fighters, buries them, and can occasionally produce items. An indie game that was very big back in the 2010s and still gets spinoffs to this day. So many games have had a Shovel Knight crossover. Which is good, cuz the game's fun and deserves the recognition. WHEW! Was recording all this on a comment that'll get lost to the ether when the vid gets removed from Patreon worth it? Probably not, but I'm me, so it needed to happen.

JT

The second time Skull Kid was summoned, the screen and I'm guessing controls were reversed for the opponent. I really need to get you two into Legend of Zelda .

Jason Rogue

Been meaning to remind you two about this, so it's good that this was a Nintendo related reaction this week: We're less than 2 weeks away from the big Switch 2 presentation on April 2nd.

JT

A couple FFF suggestions of my own: ARMS Trailers Link: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7Wq-naHdAIVMsZcU-0ObzT_CFepL2eJ2&si=hnCEy_cEDlBhI7hU - The Funkiest Fighting Game You’ve Never Heard Of – Lethal League Blaze Link: https://youtu.be/VKo0LREtJDQ?si=oeDoCpPNA_0nOgSi

Ayyy I was just thinking about you two covering this the other day.
