I believe this is the part of Dragon Ball where there will be more of an emphasis on martial arts, not just the comedy we saw this first season. It's been a while since I've seen these episodes (about 20 yrs ago), so I forgot what actually happens from here, so it'll be great to watch it with you guys again

2025-03-26 08:48:49 +0000 UTCThis is correct actually in Japanese that's exactly what oolang asked for. Dragon ball & Dragon Ball z are so old so they had a lot of translation challenges back then. Having the job to translate was rocket science back then because they didn't have access to the original script, so Funimation would used the spanish dub to translate for their english dub. They didn't have access to all the episodes of the japanese dub so they used the spanish back then & the spanish dub got a lot wrong as well. This is why Dbz Kai is the most accurate but it's missing in my opinion the heavy filler episodes that give quirks and personality of the characters. That's what makes you fall in love with them.

First try on the sync up (usually it takes me 4 or 5 tries, since I'm on DVD). Yo! Shoutout to Julie Franklin. That scream when Mai first woke up was awesome! "He's not gonna eat Bulma." Yeah, that'll be another saiyan.......I'm sorry. Oh, I like that. In Japanese, when Bulma invites Goku to the city, she says that he's cute so he's sure to get plenty of girls. Full acknowledgement, Bulma thinks Goku's cute (when he's not annoying her). "They're going to be that annoying couple." Oh god, yeah, you've never gotten even a glimpse of their relationship, huh? Oh boy, I'm excited for you to eventually witness that. So yeah, (Dragon Ball Z Spoiler, so don't read if you do plan on watching the early parts of Dragon Ball Z blind after Dragon Ball) Goku actually found out the truth about his transformation when fighting Vegeta. You guys didn't get the full experience because abridged, but when Vegeta transformed, he also explained that it's the latent power of the entire saiyan race, which is when Goku put 2 and 2 together and very briefly grieved over what he'd done. "Does Oolong actually wear the underwear?" Nope. It's a "Japanese Pervert" meme/trope for said pervert to wear underwear he stole on his head. This is a much older trope, but this show is from the 80s, so...

2025-03-26 01:41:04 +0000 UTCThe original translation of Oolang’s wish was “The Panties of a hot babe” they changed it to “comfortable pair of underwear” for broadcast reasons (this aired on Cartoon Network) so yeah, he has it on his head for the “novelty” of having them rather then wearing them for comfort.

No vegeta, no Kid gohan, none of that other stuff. Also yeah Bulma and Yamcha already seem super annoying after just 2 minutes together 😂

2025-03-25 20:50:25 +0000 UTCYes Goku finds out in the manga & anime but it's actually with his fight with Vegeta. When Vegeta turns into an Ape Goku put's the two together and it's a very short but heartbreaking moment for Goku. I wish the show expanded on Goku's feelings more after he realizes but at least they gave us that short emotionally moment. I'm also so happy we finished the Pilaf arc! Like you said Beth and Ken very well that you're starting to learn the personality of the characters. It's OG Dragon Ball that makes you fall in love with them. I mean you guys are more purest already than a lot of exclusive "DBZ" fans. They don't knew even know how Bulma & Goku first met, let alone how charming the cast is or their origin stories. I also love Beth's deep, intellectual dive on undies 🤣

If anything, I think having watched this alongside Daima paints a really interesting dichotomy as to where DB started and where it is today.
