Np. Day 2 (today) didn't have anything that would be good for a video either imo

JT

Thanks for keeping us updated! 🙏

Bethany and Ken

Of course.

JT

Thank you for this breakdown! 🙏

While I do want a Zelda themed switch if they legitimately wait until 2026 to release one, and I pray to the heavens it's either a remake or port of Twilight Princess, I will happily buy 2 NS2. I don't care. But if there's no Zelda bundle or themed Switch 2 within 3 or 4 months, then I'll buy the MKW bundle.

Jason Rogue

I did too minus the red box (new improved) Switch. We'll definitely be getting a Zelda edition at some point since they always put out Zelda hardware. Could be as early as next year considering it's Zelda's 40th anniversary.

JT

Yeah, I'm already a NSEPM so I'm for sure getting the upgrades free. Man, MKW for $80 is steep, but I guess I understand. I might cave and get the MKW bundle as well. I am hoping for another Zelda themed Switch as I legitimately bought the Switch like 3 times. The first one, the "newly" improved one and finally the Tears of the Kingdom OLED one.

Jason Rogue

Well, Mario Kart World seems to be listed as $80 just about everywhere, so I believe that'll stick. If you get the Switch 2 bundle, you're able to get it by paying 30 dollars less. As for other standalone games new Switch 2 games such as DK Bananaza, it seems $70 is the standard. The only other retail listings that hit $80 atm are the Switch 2 editions of TOTK (bc the base was already at $70), Kirby and the Forgotten Land (jumps up 20 bc of the included Star Crossed World DLC), and Mario Party Jamboree (which also jumps up 20 due to the DLC being included). Still not great, but better than $80 being standard. Personally, I'll be picking up the Switch 2 Mario Kart bundle so I can effectively buy it at $50. The Switch 2 upgrades come free to NSO Expansion Pack members, so I'll be taking advantage of that.

JT

Highly agree, watch thr full hour of the Direct. It's so worth it.

Jason Rogue

Okay, I highly doubt that Mario Kart World is that much. If these are standard NS2 game prices, yeah nah. I mean the games look beautiful and run like a regular console game, but no way am I paying liberally that much for one game when I've already spent $450 for the console itself.

Jason Rogue

Great timing on this, The Switch 2 Direct happened today and showed a bunch of new stuff, it's honestly worth watching the whole thing cause there was loads of interesting info about the system itself and some new games

Here’s what I’ll say about what Pokémon game to start with. No Pokémon game in existence should ever be difficult to learn. They’re considered “Baby’s First RPG” for a reason. So there are 3 options I can recommend: 1. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond or Pokémon Shining Pearl These are remakes on the Generation 4 games and are the tried and true gameplay of the series in its hay day. You’ll definitely feel how old it is once you get a hang of it. For any experienced RPG players, it’s the same old journey of gaining experience and trying to catch different Pokémon to add to your team. 2. Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet This is the latest entry to the main series that focuses more on exploration. It’s the first game in the series that is actually open world. Past a certain story section , you can go wherever you feel like. But the problem is they never implemented a level scaling system. Meaning, you could end up in a place that is too strong for you to handle. Still, it could be fun to see where you end up and what Pokémon you’ll meet. 3. Pokémon Legends Arceus The first game of the Legends series and the most critically acclaimed. Fans at this point were getting tired of the same old formula had been doing for less than 2 decades. So once an actual new game with brand new gameplay came out, this game took off hard. Biggest selling points are: - Catching is now a viable strategy instead of just battling a Pokémon. - Crafting - Unique turn-based battle mechanic It doesn’t have a big open world like Scarlet and Violet, but the zones are big enough for you to explore. This game is a bit more action focused, but it’s still a turn-based game where you need to decide your every move.

AlexThat200

The Pokémon Legends series is more recent and has newer gameplay that has never been done by Pokémon. Like you saw how the trainer just threw a Pokéball at that plant creature. You couldn’t do that in the earlier games. Nor could you move around while your Pokémon battle. This is all very new for the Pokémon series. This is a very old turn-based RPG series. That a majority of the games were on handheld consoles. So they’re trying to get their footing in this 2nd turn-based/action gameplay. On a console platform they still don’t have much experience in.

AlexThat200

If you want to start your Pokemon journey, you can't really go wrong with any of the games. But for your guys' playstyle, I feel like Pokemon Legends Arceus might be more of your speed, there's a significant amount of exploration and action compared to the main series games. Either that or Sword/Shield or Scarlet/Violet if you want to start with a main series game with decent graphics. Any other main series game is for the Gameboy - 3DS consoles.

For this Direct in particular, the games I was most excited for were not in my suggestions. Those being Rhythm Heaven Groove and Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. They're upcoming games for two niche IPs that I love which haven't seen new releases in 10+ years. I decided against recommending those trailers bc they're only small teasers for games that don't arrive until next year. Perhaps once more info comes out about them, I'll start suggesting more content for Rhythm Heaven and Tomodachi Life to get ya'll more acquainted with em. Prime 4 looks great tho, and I'm probably getting it day one. Shadow Labyrinth looks fun. There were other announcements I liked too in this Direct that I didn't suggest (namely Patapon Replay and Raidou). Wanted more trailers to come out for those as well before pointing you toward them.

Well, I doubt it'll be as bad as the PS5 or the Xbox Series, but the Switch 2 has been so anticipated I still figure it'll be a pain. Never underestimate the power of FOMO. As for prices, I'm sorry that I gotta be the one to tell ya. It's been a frenzy on social media. Not so much bc of the console but rather the games and accessories. What I'll do is give ya this link. Wanting to get into Metroid, huh? Well, for current platforms, there are a few options. Metroid Prime Remastered: One of the best looking games on the Switch that's honestly closer to remake than a remaster. The Metroid Prime games are different from the rest of Metroid in that they are first person shooters. Metroid Dread: One of the best games on Switch and a "must play" in my book. Easily the most dynamic in terms of action in traditional 2D Metroids. Super Metroid: Can only be played through the use of the SNES games on Nintendo Switch Online. It's an all time classic and still considered one of Nintendo's best. Certainly a good introduction to the series. BE ADVISED: Metroid is one of Nintendo's many lesser selling series due to being geared towards core gamers. Metroid's combat can be difficult for casuals, and save points/auto-saves are not exactly plentiful. It's also very hands-off in terms of guidance and navigation. You have maps and objectives ofc, but how you are meant to get from Point A to Point B is not always obvious. But hey, ya can't eat spicier stuff if ya always stick to mild, right? (EDIT) As a resident Metroid fan of the community here, I put together some playlists for Dread and Prime Remastered to help ya get more acquainted. Hi diddly ho, neighbor. I haven't anything in terms of pricing, but considering the games that are being ported over and not as "cloud versions". I expect it to be more than $300 or $350. I'd say I'm willing to spend $500. Plus, didn't Nintendo themselves say there'll be more units avaliable? I know that doesn't stop scalpers but maybe there'll be a better chance to snag one than the PS5.

Jason Rogue

I'm not the biggest Pokémon guy, so perhaps my suggestion ain't the best, but as far as games on current platforms go, Pokémon Pikachu or Pokémon Eevee might be a good starting point. It came out not long after the initial Pokémon Go craze had came, so they were designed to be extra suitable to casuals that had gotten into Pokémon through that game.

JT

BTW, tomorrow and Friday will have what are known as Nintendo Treehouse presentations. They consist of spokespeople and developers just sitting down and playing upcoming games. While they may not be good reaction material (or maybe they will idk), I'll be giving you updates about them once they wrap up. EDIT - (April 3) Ok, so Day 1 didn't have anything that I would recommend up front. Stay tuned, though. Historically, some game announcements have come from Treehouses alongside Directs. We'll see what Day 2 has to offer tomorrow.

JT

You and I both neighborino. That being said, some of the prices got me sweating (not trying to start any debates here about that, just saying). Good luck to you and any others in joining me against the fight against the scalpers' bots. You know damn well they'll be there.

JT

Lucky for you two, ya'll don't have to deal with the wait that Metroid fans have had to go through for Metroid Prime 4. We've been waiting for the Switch's whole lifetime. The game was intially announced all the way back during E3 in 2017. In early 2019, it was announced that the game was completely rebooting development since the direction it was going behind the scenes was not satisfactory in the developers' eyes. After that, it was in development hell with complete radio silence until last year's June Direct. And now, it's finally coming out as a bridge title between the Switch and Switch 2. Sometimes it helps to be late to the train on certain things (in this case, getting into Metroid).

JT

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct was not what I was expecting. I'm definitely going to try to get one day one.

Jason Rogue

Heheheh, looks like my recs came thru last week. Anyway, I sent this to ya'll over DMs, but I wanted to post it here to in case u end up seeing this first, as well as to let others add on if they want. Given how much others and I have been bringing it up, I won’t be surprised if you two have decided to watch the whole Switch 2 showcase by the time you see this comment. But in case you didn’t, I’ve brought these links here to help trim things down a tad: Hardware Trailers - Switch 2 Overview Trailer: This gives you basic rundown on the Switch’s hardware improvements from the first Switch. Link: https://youtu.be/9flte56erE8?si=Cvaqdr7-MgfgN6St - Switch 2 GameChat Trailer: This new feature may not be to relevant to you guys since you’re not big on multiplayer or online play, but I’ll leave it here anyway. Link: https://youtu.be/fVjRBTy5irI?si=bM6nVjlSsTIrmczM Game Trailers: - Mario Kart World: I know damn well you two like Mario Kart, so I don’t even need to go into more detail on this one. Link: https://youtu.be/3pE23YTYEZM?si=cHDJ6taXWG4KYHyc - Drag x Drive: This is an interesting new announcement that serves as tech demo for the new JoyCons’ mouse feature. Link: https://youtu.be/Hku89o38-hQ?si=Zr1GfFd020gaevQ2 - The Duskbloods: A brand new game from FromSoftware that has been announced as an exclusive to the Switch 2. Look badass. Link: https://youtu.be/niKHDEKQ7xA?si=c1_Jr1yhNPA5HYC8 - Donkey Kong Bananza: A new 3D platformer with Donkey Kong as the main character. Link: https://youtu.be/mIddsPkdX9U?si=E_6zKmkPuL09OkHD Of course, there were many other announcements that were a part of the showcase. This is just my take on what I figure you two would be most interested in.
