Every Flying Type Pokemon Explained

We just watched grass type so we're on track with this order. 🙂

Despite Gyarados being a sea serpent monster thing, it actually can fly. Well.... in Legends Arceus specifically.

So with Flying types done, here’s what should be left - Grass - Normal - Dragon: Masters of Mana? - Dragon Types explained - Fairy: Masters of Mysticism? - Fairy Types explained I’ve already reemphasized how important Dragon and Fairy were saved for last in last weeks video, so I won’t do that here. So I’m gonna repost the link again of the playlist I specifically made for two because as someone else mentioned in this comments section, these videos of his are outdated as they were before Generation 8 & 9 came out. So I included them in the playlist I made: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhDcJRCci7AyLyIM66klfyqktlP9HOJks&si=OYfl_aOAP_FpRHiJ

Top 3 Flying types: 1. Charizard Again, I just love the whole line too much. Who doesn’t love a fire dragon looking thing they want to ride on? Fun fact about why he’s Flying and not Dragon. At the beginning of each game, you have to choose 3 Pokémon that consist of Grass, Fire, and Water. So in this case for Gen 1, it would be Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. They didn’t want to give Charizard Dragon type, because that would just make it too powerful than its counterparts. So Flying was the next best thing. But you wanna know something stupid? Back in the very first games, they made him Flying type, but he couldn’t learn the move Fly that allows you to fly to different cities. Most likely a programming short-sight. 2. Galarian Moltres Moltres is one of the first set of Legendaries to exist. They are part of the Elemental Birds with the other 2 being Zapdos and Articuno. Lot of people make fun of Moltres because it looks a rubber chicken with flames to cover its ugliness, but always liked its design. Then when Gen 8 (Sword & Shield) got DLC, they gave the Elemental Birds a regional form with new looks and new typing. And I love Galarian Moltres a lot! It looks a lot more punk looking with it’s dark coloring and pink-ish purple flames 3. Yveltal The embodiment of Death in the Pokémon world. It’s a very powerful creature that can suck out the life force of everything within miles just by spreading its wings out. And once it’s done, it goes to sleep for 1000 years. Now that sounds horrible, but if Yveltal didn’t exist, then spirits cannot pass on to the afterlife. It is by balancing the scales of life and death that life continues on. Plus it just looks freaking cool and I want it.

Charizard seems to primarily by Flying type rather than Dragon for game balancing reasons. Charmander, who later evolves into Charizard, is one of the few options you have immediately when you start the game, and with Dragon type being so powerful it would make it a very overpowered choice, and flying is the next best pick. Though when, way later, mega evolution was introduced, Mega Charizard X actually swaps out the Flying for Dragon, if temporarily. Plus Pokemon often uses types as stand ins - for instance, when a Pokemon is flying type it might not be because they can actually fly, but more so because they can manipulate wind or air in some way. Moves like Hurricane are flying type, after all. As a side note, I'm sure someone has mentioned it before, but these videos on Lockstins channel are somewhat outdated, as they were made several years ago, and several hundred Pokemon have came to be since - though Lockstin has made videos on the Gen 8 and Gen 9 Pokemon too, so hopefully you'll check those out too after you're finished with these ones.

Flying types are pretty straightforward. Ironically more so than Normal types. Even more so ironically, some of the birds here you’ll see again in the Normal Type video because Game Freak really couldn’t think of ways of making birds not Normal/Flying type. At least not until later in the Switch era.
