Dragon Ball Daima 12 Full Reaction

I don’t think anyone said this yet, but I think Vegeta’s one-finger parry of the Tamagami’s sword is a callback to when Goku did the same to Trunks after Trunks sliced up Vegeta.

Okay, so I’m a bit behind with the watches. I’m on episode 11. First off, I’m pretty sure the witch is Kid Krillin’s VA from OG, which makes sense with what’s happening in this show. Also, I don’t know if it’s just me, but the voice for Duu that I have is different from the one that they have. Mine sounds more silly (similar to King Kai). Theirs sounds more solid and not as squishy. They must’ve redid the voice or recasted. It’s the Super Frieza all over again.

Yeah, it not existing yet was something I had also had in my head but it was such a "no shit" reason it slipped my mind to include it lol. As to what you're referring to near the end, I don't know if I'd call you hypocritical about not liking "that" but liking SS3 Vegeta. There are certain things about the final episode that make it much harder to buy (imo at least).

JT

Of course the basic answer is that it just didn't exist yet, but that's the lame answer, and in universe who knows. Very happy Vegeta got this form, maybe because of my love for ssj3, and i think it can work canonically. Maybe I'm hypocritical but this is the type of fan service that I love, unlike something else that can't be said right now.

feltskate ._.

C'mon Vegeta, what's a bug but a land shrimp?

Toriyama really threw us Vegeta fans a bone with giving him SSJ3 🙌🏼 its clear that Duu is the brawn and Kuu is the brains, the contrast is quite interesting. Such an awesome episode!

I'm watching the dub blind for the most part and I gotta say, I really like Paul Castro Jr.'s performance this episode as young Vegeta. He's really channeling a lot of Ryō Horikawa in how he screams yet I can still entirely hear his voice as a precursor to how Sabat sounds.

23:17 "You expected so much more" I can't say I did. Once Marba and Arinsu had discussed that Buu was very much an anomaly when it comes to conjured Majins both in power and temperament, I saw where things were going as someone who's super familiar with Toriyama's writing (I'm not just talking Dragon Ball). I don't give a shit what anyone else says. I wouldn't have the DuuKuu bros any other way lmao.

Super Saiyan 3 Baby Vegeta 🥰

21:33 "Why would I ever eat a bug?" "Be honest, the old you would have tried it for sure!" "Well the current me is much more refined". I like that this exchange was included. The first image we get of Vegeta in the DBZ manga is of him eating the severed arm from the corpse of a humanoid alien on a planet that he and Nappa were in the middle of conquering.

JT

SS3 Vegeta fighting with his arms crossed while fighting Tamagami 2 also added credence to the idea that Vegeta is the more prominent personality in Vegito, since Vegito also loves to fight like that when he's toying with his opponent.

A point of contention that had come up after this episode premiered was that if Vegeta had managed to reach SS3 before Battle of Gods, then how come he didn’t use it on Beerus when Bulma got slapped? Now, there’s a massive layer to this point that I can’t discuss yet, but I’ll just give my opinion on why this supposedly wasn’t the case in-universe: Unless I’m overlooking something, every canonical instance of a Saiyan turning SS3 required them to have a “give me a minute” moment, or be in a state of mind where they could focus enough to trigger the transformation. When Vegeta lost his mind on Beerus, he didn’t go to SS3 because he couldn’t focus enough to go past SS2. That being said, do I think this moment was included primarily for the sake of fan service and merchandising? Yes, 110%. I just think that’s it’s an interesting point of discussion, since it’s a valid question that this scene creates.

As you can see, the design of Vegeta’s version of Super Saiyan 3 differs a bit from Goku’s. While he still loses his eyebrows, Vegeta’s hair doesn’t hang quite as low as it does when Goku transforms. Some have speculated that this hairstyle was Toriyama reusing a design element he used in a concept sketch for SS3 Goku that was shown in an old DB guidebook. This sketch showed that Goku was initially going to have a similar hairstyle to Mini Vegeta’s SS3, but his editor rejected the design. Whether this is actually the case or not isn’t clear, as there has been no official statement on the design’s inspiration (to my knowledge). I personally dig the longer flowing look of Goku’s SS3 more, but I still like Vegeta’s, and I can appreciate Toriyama trying to distinguish the two characters.

Leaks and rumors of Vegeta using SS3 in Daima had surfaced online months before this episode aired from big members of the DB community. When I was a preteen/early teen during DBS’ run, I had my ear to the ground with such coverage because I just couldn’t help myself. However, I’ve become more wary of spoilers as a young adult, so the word relating to SS3 Vegeta was something I just disregarded as nonsense. Boy, am I glad I did. This shit right here was a literal dream come true for a lot of people, as they had been waiting literal decades to see a canon SS3 Vegeta.

JT

Hehehehe, yeah, so Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta was easily the first “big hype” moment in Daima that got the fandom to start going crazy online. It’s what drove me to try and warn people who hadn’t seen it yet to start being extra careful with spoilers back in the comments of the reaction to DBS episode 121. Though given the size of the DB community and the speed at which word travels among it, I doubt any of my warnings actually helped anyone.

Lore Recap Compilation 12 - Based on what we’ve seen from Tamagami 1 and 3, it seems that the Tamagami can power themselves by going into a “heated up” state, where their bodies start glowing orange. - Being the creator of the Tamagami, Neva seemingly can enhance their power via magic. This enhanced state seems to be stronger than the Tamagami’s normal power boost, as Tamagami 2 began glowing blue and purple instead of orange. - Planet Vegeta had snakes living on it. They didn’t eat cookies.
