13:08 Back on your OGDB ep 19 reaction, I had commented something along the lines of "you know you're watching a pre-late 90s anime when the animators just give you blatant seizure material". While I guess it sort of came off as a joke, I was being genuine, and that's largely related to Porygon here. You see, back in December of 1997, the 38th episode of the Pokémon anime's first season aired in Japan. This episode was the anime's first ever instance of featuring a Porygon. During this episode, there's a scene where the main characters are fleeing from some missiles on the Porygon's back, which Pikachu stops by destroying the missiles with an attack. This attack resulted in an explosion that was depicted with a strobe effect that used rapid flashes of blue and red light. Upon viewing this scene during the broadcast, 685 viewers began experiencing symptoms of blurred vision, headaches, dizziness, nausea, seizures, blindness, convulsions, and unconsciousness. The Japanese press referred to this incident as "Pokémon Shock". Since then, the anime has never featured Porygon or any of its evolutions in an episode due to the stigma surrounding the Pokémon's anime appearance. Due to this incident, anime productions following this incident either: 1) Leave more "vivid" imagery out of the production entirely. OR, more commonly... 2) Dim the screen during scenes where bright colors, flashes of light are on screen. This is a practice that remains very prominent in the present day's works for productions that are either broadcast on TV or streaming services. To my knowledge, DVD/Blu Ray releases of anime will remove the dimming effect due to different distribution standards. I'm not sure which version of FMAB Crunchyroll uses for the dub, but in case you find the screen suddenly dimming during scenes that feel like they should appear bright, you now know why. I'll leave this link here in case you want to read more about the finer details of the incident. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denn%C5%8D_Senshi_Porygon
