2025-05-20 23:55:26 +0000 UTCDefinitely a great fight, and one thing I loved about OG Dragonball is emphasis on martial arts and looking for weak spots in your opponent. Don't get me wrong, watching the super saiyan transformations and the blast attacks is cool and all, but nothing beats a classic, good ole slugfest. On a side note, I just came from watching that extremely depressing episode of Fullmetal Alchemist and this reaction was such a needed breath of fresh air from what we witnessed

Oh wow, in Japanese, Bulma called Jackie a "Miserable Jackass." She pissed. Jackie not landing outside the ring is a great Gag, imo. It is a shame that there's no music during this brawl. I can see japanese subtitles going for the good vocal track that was originally there, but Funimation left it out to only have ambient sounds. You actually saw this moment referenced in Z. When Goten first took the stage of the tournament, the Announcer saw Goten and immediately recalled this moment, even seeing the afterimage of Goku fall behind Goten. Genuinely love moment, to me. Let's face it, that prize money joke is the perfect way to wrap up this entire arc. "I wanna know how the moon regenerates so Mr. Piccolo can blow it up." That will be answered, actually. When that gets answered, I won't say, but it does get answered. "What is a full course meal?" After a google search, it appears to just be another name for a multi-course meal. How many doesn't seem to be specified, just that there's more than 1. Yeah, while there's not much scene variety, I really love the tournament format for storytelling. I think it works really well. Lookin' forward to the next arc...after a little bit of filler.

It gets better but you already mentioned this fight felt little long but it was only 3 episodes and maybe a little less since it ended in the middle of this episode. As opposed to DBZ where some fights seemingly like 20+ episodes?

Going through the animes with my little brother [We've watched all of DB, DBZ (original, not DBZ Kai), DBS, and DBGT] made me realise how much I love this franchise. It's on to the next arc for you guys now. I can't wait to see your reactions to the rest of the show.

In the dub, as you saw they had Roshi use his intuition to figure out what was the cause for Goku's transformation. In the sub, Roshi overheard Yamcha explaining to Krillin that the moon was the cause of the transformation.

In the original Japanese audio, an insert song begins playing here titled โMezase Tenkaichiโ (Aim to be the Greatest on Earth). The lyrics and the instrumental itself can come off a bit cheesy, but I think it's fun and catchy. Guess it was just left out of the dub due to licensing issues.
