And a little fun fact: in addition to this nod to Terminator, Toriyamaβs inspiration in creating the Android Saga came from Terminator as well (minus Cell, that was a later addition). You gotta love Toriyama for making these nods to his favorite movies

I think that small moment of him freaking out is just to show you how caring he is. He's still not unbothered by killing someone but at the same time. He's a Saiyan who hunts for his own food so that savage in him is still there. Baby Goku literally fights with wolve's, tigers, bears & eats them after lol. If Goku grew up on Planet Vegeta for example. He wouldn't care even for a second.

2025-06-13 02:36:03 +0000 UTCIt's not talked about enough in adorable Anime history that we got a chunky baby Goku kickin tail with pink mittens on. That's style! Also the whole fighting on different floors thing was a massive trend in martial arts films and video games during this time & yes Major Metallitron is based off the The Terminator. Akira loved Hollywood movies with a passion. Akira was also obsessed with Martial Arts films, I.E. why Jackie Chan is one of his close friends. Akira-Sensei was also inspired by the Super Sentai show. Which is the original Power Rangers show here in Japan. Super Sentai is essentially what created the Ginyu Force. The Power Rangers posed like that a lot lol. Also side note this episode shows you how consistent the character writing for Dragon Ball has been for over 39 years. Baby Goku is always letting his guard down, something Whis stressed hard on him. Goku let his guard down way too many times in one episode lol

Abridged Freeza: "Oh, who hasn't?" "I'll take the cheese back to the village." Would that survive that long in Goku's hands? So here's a thing I learned in recent years. Ninja Murasaki is the only member to not have a color for a name in English. Murasaki is Japanese for Purple. I guess Purple Ninja might not be as cool-sounding, but still, I now find it odd that his is the one name they didn't translate. "Gonna kick him right in the nuts." Which nuts? I'm sure there's plenty in there. "Oh, cool!" Ken sounding like 17 in response to a rocket punch. With how much food Goku's hunted, including, probably, sapient beings, he likely already has a slight numbness to killing, though he's clearly always respectful to those he kills.

2025-06-12 19:31:42 +0000 UTC15:51 Interesting fact about Major Metallitron's scan interface here: Toei ended up unintentionally foreshadowing Goku's Saiyan biology, for this bit was not a part of Toriyama's manga. As a matter of fact, the text that you see on the right (Interface 2037 Ready for Inquiry) was ripped straight from Alien. A good prediction in hindsight, even if it was probably just Toei having fun with more movie references.

2025-06-12 19:21:44 +0000 UTCYep, Major Metallitron (named Full Metal Jacket in the manga) is one of the most blatant moments of Toriyama just taking designs from movies he liked, right up there with Frieza's third form. Told ya, Toriyama was a geek just like the rest of us.
