Loved this game, are they playing the dlc in order of the game, hope that makes sense without spoiling

3:04:06 Can't quite remember how much of Barnabas' backstory is provided throughout cutscenes, so I guess I would just suggest to read up on the lore tabs about Barnabas and his mother.

3:00:07 This is never really explained in-game, so I'll clear this question up here: According to "Final Fantasy XVI: Ultimania", an official FF16 guidebook that only released in Japan, Olivier was Akashic ever since he was born. Thus, it's unknown as to how much of Olivier's will or personality was ever his own. Why he's not all crystalline and mindless like the other beings you've seen turn Akashic isn't really explained. My personal theory is that it's just because Ultima got to Olivier while he was in the womb.

This is my favorite Eikon battle. It looked amazing on my screen. It was also the toughest i felt on normal difficulty.

Mosh Mia

Which makes me all the more sadder that I don’t really like using his Eikon abilities in this game besides Megaflare 😭

Then becoming Ifrit Risen and going into fucking space for the final part??? Actually made me feel like a kid again, this game is so awesome…

As a reminder, upgrading an ability a second time (mastering it) will allow you to assign it to any Eikonic Feat of your choosing. You're not restricted to keeping an Eikon's abilities clustered together. I write these ability guides to be fairly "hands off" for the sake of letting ya decide how you can mix and match them.

Bahamut has been my favorite summon for as long as I’ve been an FF fan and playing this fight here was the most rewarding thing I’ve ever felt seeing them do my man so much justice with this whole sequence and Dion as a character.

OUR DESTINIES LIE - oh fine

ON WINGS OF AN ANGEL FORSAKEN that's all. I'm not gonna do it again

The final spell that Bahamut unleashes on Ifrit Risen, Zettaflare, is one of the most powerful attacks that Final Fantasy has ever witnessed. Since Square Enix series tend to share their spells, there were a couple of other powerful beings that had used it prior to FF16. One was the final boss of Bravely Default, who was effectively a god. Who is the second being that has such great magical abilities to cast such an attack, you ask? Why, it was Donald Duck, of course. He used it in Kingdom Hearts 3. Here’s a reminder if ya need it. https://youtu.be/LMzfX88ZmTw?si=1v08Vhj17K-G53qK

Ifrit and Phoenix vs Bahamut is arguably one of the biggest spectacles that the video game industry has ever seen. It's far from being the "hardest" fight, but the animations and visual effects are on such a different level. This fight could easily pass as the final boss of many other games. Between this and Ifrit vs Titan, it’s no wonder why the gameplay between story quests pales so much in comparison when it comes to production value.

Bahamut’s Abilities Wings of Light: Clive begins hovering with Bahamut’s wings and charges up his signature Megaflare spell. The max charge level goes up to 3 by default and extends to Lv. 4 when upgraded. When unleashed, Clive’s Megaflare will cause volleys of light to rain down from the sky, which will last longer depending on how high the spell was charged. Clive can’t attack in this form, but he can still dodge. Performing a precision dodge with Wings of Light active will instantly charge one level. While Megaflare will still charge as Clive moves, standing still will cause the gauge to rise faster. This ability is where my advice to dodge “into” magic attacks from enemies becomes very useful. Megaflare is a very good attack against any enemy, be it a boss or a horde of small enemies. The light volleys will home in on targets, so good damage will get racked up if they are within range. Impulse: Clive sends out light orbs that will bind to enemies and attack them continuously. Small enemies become vulnerable as they get knocked around at bigger enemies will take serious damage to their will gauges. As the orbs stay around, they’ll continue to turn increasingly orange. Pressing the activation button for this ability while the orbs are orange will deal even greater damage upon detonation, so try to wait for them to reach that stage. This is a very good ability for crowd control and easy stagger damage since its cool down in rather short and it can be used from just about any distance. It’s also a good pairing with Wings of Light since the light orbs will keep enemies off Clive and allow him to charge Megaflare quicker. Flare Breath: Clive sends out a stream of flame that’ll deal moderate damage to HP and will. While this attack is being performed, Clive can slowly walk to reposition himself or cancel the ability mid-attack. Canceling Flare Breath prematurely will lift small enemies into the air. Good option for crowd control and a mediocre move against big enemies. Satellite: Clive sends out a drone to his side (two drones if upgraded) that will fire lasers at a targeted enemy whenever Clive uses any magic attack. The drones can also be fired with the ability’s execute button if Clive is not able to use magic (i.e. being knocked back, falling from the air). These drones will stick around for about 30 seconds and deal good stagger damage. This is arguably Bahamut’s most situational ability, as the drones won’t be of much use if you don’t really use too much magic in your playstyle. Gigaflare: Clive fires a massive beam of light that deals low stagger damage, but OUTSTANDING HP damage. This ability is the second most powerful attack that Clive will ever have at his disposal. You can direct the beam using the analog sticks, and the attack will pass through any enemies that get caught in the blast. It also has a shockingly fast cooldown period for a signature Eikon ability. This is the best move in Bahamut’s move set hands down. It’s essentially a Kamehameha. Pairing this with Ramuh’s Lightning Rod will let take the DPS even further. Summary: Bahamut’s abilities are, in essence, the inverse of Titan’s abilities. He provides Clive more tools to deal strong HP and stagger damage from a distance in ways that don’t require precise timing to make the most of them. In other words, his abilities are the “safest” out of anything in Clive’s arsenal. Combining Bahamut’s attacks with Phoenix’s Will-o-the-Wykes and Ramuh’s ranged magic makes for Clive’s closest thing to a sort of “mage build”. You can damage enemies from afar without having to worry about taking much damage yourself as long as you mind your distance from enemies.

WWW Suggestion Donkey Kong Bananza Direct: This game right here is looking to be the contender with Clair Obscur for my GOTY this year. Told ya’ll back in the comments of the Switch 2 Direct that I’ve literally daydreamed about a game like this for the past few years, and this showing has only satisfied that dream more. I almost regret watching this presentation this morning because I was already sold with the first trailer. But yeah, here ya go. Link: https://www.youtube.com/live/YVUidGTR8xg?si=ZziuvqkMnXE0pUny

Leaving this post as another reminder for thoughts and feedback on the VGM playlists. The more descript, the better. Ya’ll have done me the courtesy of listening to me prattle on here over on Patreon (and sometimes on YT), so I’d love nothing more than to hear your notes on how I could improve/alter them to your liking, and if you’ve taken a fancy to any particular songs. *Note: Keeping in line with adding FF16 tracks as the journey progresses, I've now added "Ascension" to the energy playlist.

Finally finished Clair Obscur Expedition 33 last Monday (after taking my sweet ass time doing so). What an ending. Don’t know if you two will be doing a let’s play of it, but if ya’ll are, I’ll be looking forward to it with nothing but the upmost interest. Been treating myself to some shorter recent games as a sort of palate cleanser since then. Tried Blue Prince out on Game Pass, and it’s obtuse meshing of different genres didn’t work for me as much it seems to for all these online reviewers praising it to death, so I dropped it. Rn I’m going through Deltarune Chapters 3 + 4 on my Switch 2 and I’m thoroughly enjoying what I’ve played so far. Feels surreal to be playing ‘em after all this time. Edit: Finished chapter 4. I've never felt that a game was so worth the wait as much as I am rn, and that's really saying something.
