The Peace sign is a common trope in early anime over there its more used like a V for Victory. Dragon balls earth isnt exactly like ours as im sure youve noticed with the dinosaurs and such we arent entirely sure of its history either or how long theyve had what tech and etc, as JT mentions akira brings alot of things he likes into the show

There's lots of action, there's humor, there's that golden roshi scene we just saw...Personally I love this saga. If I were going to tier dragon ball sagas it would have to be Namek and Cell at the top, then the OGDB tournaments (all 3 of them) and probably ToP on the next tier, then the RR saga after that
