Hi Guys!
So, contrary to the belief of all those who know me well, I did in fact survive the UK heatwave...barely! And that was WITH portable AC....
As you can imagine I've had a bit of a disrupted week, but I managed to get a solid amount done moving forwards with preparing and painting the new STLs, a) to show off in the video and b) for me to use in photography builds going forwards to add more interesting layouts for you guys!
Now this is where it gets interesting. I WANT to do a tutorial on the methods and paints used to get these results - but making a video takes far longer than it should right now (and isn't very efficient even when I'm at my best!)
These techniques are fairly straightforward, and I honestly don't think a video guide would add much over a text-and-photos one - so I'm going to do as many have suggested and include this as a written/image guide instead :)
If this works well for you guys, it will allow me to codify far more tutorials, tips and guides in the patreon, along the lines of the tips in the archive index, but for specific topics like this. These are guides that sadly, otherwise probably wouldnt see the light of day simply because I can't afford to dedicate the time to make a video for them over dedicating that time to....well, the main videos!
I'm really happy with the results I've managed for 'old wood' as well as 'rich wood', the mimic is a bit of a test paint - that isn't the final mimic model, it was a test print I'm using to throw out test colour schemes, hence it being a bit messy! the main version you can see the texture on the tongue far more clearly, and will be drybrushable...
Techniques for the door magnetic connections and windows in particular are some I want to show in more detail, there's definitely some things you want to do to avoid things like the coloured wash seeping into other panels :)
Hopefully I'll be able to get that written up for you soon while I work on the final shots for the video. Again my apologies for the speed I'm forced to go at, I'm still pretty much forced to work at half speed (not to mention no energy on evenings) due to long COVID. My referral to the long COVID clinic in late august can't come fast enough...
Work continues though, and I'm very happy to be able to reinvest your support in rewards for you like the STLs which rely far less on my energy levels to get things out to you guys more regularly :)
As always I truly appreciate the support you all give the channel, you're making a style of channel like this possible, which if I had to rely on ads and sponsors, it just wouldn't be. Much love to you all!
Matt
