Minor update, and STL reveal! Printable Stairblocks!

Hi Guys!

So as you know alongside the video I've been hard at work with Fabio getting the cage STLs finished, and by finished I mean checking they all print properly, which takes a while because there's loads of them ๐Ÿ˜‚

But I also kept mentioning a second part of the release that wasn't yet revealed...

Well, this is it! I didn't want to announce until I was sure it worked, and it does! Totally printable stairblocks for those among you who want to either save some time or just prefer printing to crafting. The images above have foam on the left and resin on the right ๐Ÿ˜

We worked REALLY hard getting the texture of the stone juuust right. I really wanted to capture the rugged, weathered look that foam captures well, and I think looks great for 90% of environments we use. it's a little rough for a noble's palace, but those tend to be much rarer encounters anyway!

I think it looks stunning honestly, I'm genuinely loving it. I wish foam was capable of capturing such details.

There are a few downsides, which I'd be remiss if I didn't mention. It is marginally heavier (though not as much as you might think), and a LOT harder, so if you drop it its more likely to do damage/chip. The weight also means you really need 4x4 n52's on the sides, which adds about 16p per block, and the block itself is about 30p of resin. Its not much, but worth mentioning for transparency/honesty.

But other than that they work great! I'm working with fabio now on the stair parts, aiming to have those done soon too.

But PLEASE let me know what you think of the texture! It blends really well with the new templeblock tiles using the printed texture roller for the stone (forgot to add that photo - next time!) so should match most of our stuff going forwards! The colour scheme is a little greyer than usual, I was experimenting with using mini paints for it to see if it saved time (jury's out).

OTHER than that, I've been working on several stl templates myself which will be available to everyone as I made them, not Fabio, so I didn't have to pay for them ๐Ÿ˜‚ in theory they should make a lot of the more complex curved or angled hot wire cuts smoother, faster and easier - we'll see once I have the test print!

I've also been experimenting with the best way to get those angled grate blocks mass produced - the jigs are not co-incidental ๐Ÿ˜‚ hopefully they'll help out any of you guys who struggle with angled cuts (looking at you Alistair ๐Ÿ˜‰). If they work, I can run off more of these in future to make stuff like the roof tiles MUCH easier...

That's all for now, more soon!

I have mixed feelings about printing terrain. It is a cool concept but once I get to printing it actually takes a long time to get enough to use for a game and making this stuff from foam can be quicker, more satisfying and cheaper. That being said, I think there is a bit of a balance between the hand made and the 3D printed and it varies from one person to another based on equipment, time, personal preferences, etc.
