It seems I have an error in my VAM and she will start with her mouth open.
If that happens go to morph - mouth open wide, and put the slider to 0

The reason why some models start with their mouth open and some don't: The option "drive jaw angle from head audio" under the "jaw physics and triggers" tab might be turned off or on when you load a different model (the option is saved with the appearance preset). When this is on, the "audio drive multiplier" will use the "mouth open wide" pose/morph to control the mouth. It is not necessary for this to be turned on if you are using the Lipsync plugin. I hope this helps solve the mystery!
