1 week animation loop challenge - day 3

another day of progress down! and it's going extremely well!!!

today was about sculpting all the props that I'm going to have in the background of the shot before I paint. Started today by finishing up molding the clay into every piece I needed to create a radiator. Clay is a lot harder to work with than it seems if you are unpracticed like me. Usually when I have worked with miniatures in the past, clay has been something not ive leaned on too much before. But do to the very curved shapes of both the toilet and radiator, clay made the most sense here. but god is it annoying to get looking clean haha. I ended up using a lot of random objects around me to try and get a more uniform clean look. radiator didnt take too long to make the pieces for, but the toilet took me like an hour and a half to get to a point where i was happy

excuse the incidental bulge lol

after baking both in the oven and collecting the pieces, it was time to glue! and due to my inexperience, I at first tried using hot glue. which I quickly realized was not at all bonding to the hardened clay

then i tried wood glue which also did not work haha. i was a bit worried and did some googling like I should have to begin with. and then I remembered that I had some E6000 around, which is an industrial grade adhesive. and that worked beautifully. still took me a long time to glue everything together tho- it takes about 10 mins before I can move what I just glued and so I had to be careful how much I glued on at once. eventually tho, i had these constructed!

despite my efforts, they still look a bit too organic and non-uniform. but with paint and everything in context, I hope that it just adds to the style. I also decided to print out a picture of the art to see how it would fit in when I go to film and already I can see how this could potentially look, and it has me pretty excited :3
im gonna have to do some work to make this look right when I do the lighting so the shadows fall in a place that makes sense more, but already you can start seeing the illusion of the 2d in a 3d space. tomorrow I will be starting with the walls and flooring and drawing graffiti on the walls! exciting updates soon ^w^
