Monochrome vs Color

We received a query from one of our patrons about why we always post b&w images rather than color*. We thought it might be of interest and thought we might share it with the rest of you. We would be happy to hear your thoughts.

Let us thank you again for your patronage and your nice comments on our work. Regarding color vs monochrome, here are some thoughts. There are a few reasons why we post only monochrome images. 1) Our work is 'thematic' - we focus on soft beauty, natural light, natural models and monochrome. It is our 'look' so to speak, or our 'brand'. Trying to please others is usually not a satisfying challenge. An artist has to create 'from the heart'.  We (my partner and I) both prefer monochrome. This is partly esthetic - we simply like the way images look in monochrome, and also practical, because it helps create a signature style that can be recognizable as ours to some extent, rather than just throwing tons of images out there in both monochrome and color. Another important reason is because we both learned back in the dark ages. The film and darkroom days. So prior to digital, our work was always in black and white, and that has been a big influence. I would say, photographically, we both 'see' in black and white. Our images are constructed with that in mind. Although color can be beautiful, we think others might do that better than we do, and better to leave them to it. :)

*As a reminder, if you want to see color versions of our work, you can always make a pledge and request a custom set.
