An Interesting Juxtaposition
Added 2017-07-15 11:20:02 +0000 UTCWe attempted to post this pair of images last night, but there are problems with Patreon's new inline posting feature and we got multiple error messages - 'Oops, something went wrong'. Not very helpful information. As it currently stands, f you want to post additional inline images in a post, you lose the ability to add text to the post. If you add the text first, you cannot add additional images. We contacted tech support, which told us they were working on the problem and they had fixed it, but as of this morning, no, they haven't.
Anyway, this pair of photographs is from 2007, the 'early days' just when it looked like digital quality was making a breakthrough. The color image is digital and the exposure is about right, but... It was a cloudy bright day, which was easily handled by the film, which has a much smoother tonal scale than the digital capture. Detail is missing in the shadows and the highlights are brighter than desired in the digital image. If memory serves, the camera was a Canon 1Ds, an industry leader at the time (with a whopping 11 megapixels!). The second image was captured on film. This is a scan of an 11x14 silver gelatin print. We like them both, and thought it would be interesting to see them side by side.
