It really broke my heart watching her work her ass off to the degree that she was only for her to be looked over and have her manager screamed at for her not being deemed 'enough'. So she pushes herself over and over and then she breaks... It was so weird how the show decided to villainize her in this way to the public whilst not recording her apology and the reconciliation, it felt so intentional in its malintent.
Then none of her costars kind of standing up for her in public made it so much worse. I'm so grateful that Aqua was there to help her when she was at her lowest, but it's important to remember that so many real people do not have an Aqua in their lives so it's so important people are mindful of what they put out to the universe for other very real humans to see. Idk, this episode really brought to light the extent of how anonymity on the internet gives people the ability to be as vicious as they would like without the threat of consequences on their lives... Really shows the darkness of the entertainment industry.

2023-05-18 11:21:05 +0000 UTCYess. I used to watch Terrace House religiously so seeing her take her life as a result of all of the shit storm after the little altercation where she flipped his hat was wild to me. it was genuinely super dark to watch unfold.

2023-05-18 11:19:58 +0000 UTCThe whole story line with Akane is actually based on a true story that happened on a japanese reality dating show back in 2020. Hana Kimura, a 22 professional wrestler, was made to seem as a bit mean to the otherss during one of the shows scenes. When the episode aired, she started receiving hate and death threats pretty much non stop on Twitter. Sadly she doesn't get saved like Akane was. All the hate got to her, and a few days later she posted to her Twitter some self-harm photos and a goodbye. Then she committed suicide. I imagine the manga writer probably took direct inspiration from this story, because it happened probably a bit before this manga chapter released.

2023-05-18 04:38:21 +0000 UTCI think the costar thing is largely based on them being contractually obligated to not speak about the show production beyond what is on screen. This show really seems to emphasize the dehumanization of artistic talent in our media (especially online) while also showing the real passion that some people have for it. I think most people have these sort of artistic aspirations but are ultimately tied down to more mundane (but often necessary) functions of society and it leads to a sort of general jealousy towards those in the position to achieve artistically.
