For those of you that are interested in the technical aspects of photography, I don't actually like this photo from a technical perspective. I like the composition for the most part, but this image was quite overexposed in camera. So much so that I can't adjust the brightness and contrast to achieve the skin tones I hope for. It looks harsh and brittle in a way that I don't like. The lesson is, when shooting digital, expose for the highlights. The highlights (the bright areas of the image) become 'blown out' when overexposed, and it is not really possible to rescue them elegantly.
