I believe Isayama did say this was a state of delirium for Erwin. Either way it's easy to see that Erwin has always having the heavy burden of having to make all the toughest choices. Erwin had to choose between his own life-long dream, or the dreams of all his fallen comrades. In the end, even at that pinnacle moment, Erwin could not betray the dream of him and his fathers. This is why he thanks Levi for making the choice for him. Really a majority of the Levi Story arch has been building up to the moment where Levi chooses Armin over Erwin. Without the Kenny-arch, Levi probably would not have seen how much Erwin was a slave to what humanity wanted him to be.

I see no problem to read it that other way, because thats basically what Erwin would have done if he was a bit more consious anyways, and combining both of these seems to be the intention of Yams

You are the only one of the reactors so far that understood what erwin was doing when he raised his hand, while Levi is trying to use the injection. All the rest assumed that he declined the injection. The most probable thing is that he is in the process of dying and doesnt have a clue what is going on around him. He is just delirious and he is re-living the moment that set his path in motion. Good catch!

Can’t wait for discussion! Also just a random factoid about when this came out in the Manga - Serumbowl did *not* resolve in a single chapter. Since snk is a monthly series, we had to wait like a month for what happens in this single episode to resolve. It was insanity with fan debates and theories about who should and would get the injection - for a while 😂 This episode is probably my 2nd favorite to That Day tho, from this season.
