Fmab is my favorite series of all time. It’s also one of the most well-structured and foreshadowed, bc of how botched the first series was. I absolutely can’t wait for u to go through it!!

Honestly, I think it's a little premature to say that FMA having deep philosophical themes is unusual for shonen at the time given that Im has gone on record as having only seen so much anime. Granted it's a lot more common now, but anime like Death Note and Rurouni Kenshin come to mind when I think of 2000s anime that ruminate on "deep philosophical themes." Further, it feels somewhat cheap to simply attribute all of FMA's differences from its contemporaries to its writer being a woman. Sure, her being a woman gives her a different perspective from which to write, but none of these differences would land were she not an already phenomenal writer.

I kinda laughed when you said it's unusual for a shonen anime to have a deep philosophical theme - everything unusual about FMAB is because it's written by a woman :D Great analysis as always, I can't wait to see how you react to the rest of this incredible series! <3

As expected already some great predictions and analysis from Im, so excited to see you go on this journey, I'm wondering now you've seen both, Do you think episode 1 or 2 was the better start? I think ep 1 works better for introducing the world and power system a bit more naturally and building some tension about Al's body. In ep 2 I think it just kinda drops it on you that the armour is empty

Will Watches

I think you'll love this series! it is so emotionally rich.
