Would you mind telling me how you are watching the show? The subtitles don't match netflix or amazon and I want to watch along with the version you have

2022-02-21 00:52:16 +0000 UTCWell, you're partially wrong, in the manga he doesn't make the speech but when the girl asks "is there such a place?" it doesn't immediately jump to the past, it actually shows a panel of thorfinn's eyes, and you can tell by his expression that he remembered the speech his father gave to the runaway slave.

2022-02-20 15:16:18 +0000 UTCTo be honest, as much as I love VS, anime adaptation has some flaws to my taste. I'm not sure if Im will consider this a spoiler, it shouldn't be that bad. In manga, Thorfinn DID NOT gave that speech to a slave, about 'faraway lands', about Vinland of course. Thorfinn here is suppose to be a child who still can't get his father's words, and for sure cannot remember that one random speech he gave to a dying slave. Im not talking further to prevent spoilers. This is, to me, a biggest flaw of anime adaptation. Also just a fact, I don't think that matters: episodes 7 and 8 were first 2 chapters of a manga, then (exactly a moment girl asks "is there such a place?") it jumps to a past, showing previous episodes' content.

While I acknowledge that snk has amazing writing and ist a great story, I just never enjoyed it as much as its hardcore fans. I mean I watch it and it's exciting and I die follow you for your discussions in it but still, it just isn't a favorite Anime of mine. Now Vinland Saga IS a big fave! I know I've only seen a small portion of it but the character writing and themes just resonate a lot for me and I'm so happy somebody as great at analizing storytelling as you is reviewing it! So thanks :D

2022-02-20 11:48:22 +0000 UTCMy favorite scene of the episode is when Thorfinn has that vision of his father and remembers the promise of Vinland. Thors is no longer part of his journey so a lot of his growth has to come from himself and it's nice to see that beneath all that blind rage that Thorfinn still remembers what his father told him. Deep down he knows he's not on the right path even if he hasn't fully grasped that yet or doesn't allow himself to. Askeladd is as always intriguing and an interesting character to follow, it's a nice contrast to Thorfinn. And the tease at the end with Canute and Thorkell is great. Very excited for your reactions to Canute since you're already familiar with him from history, Great discussion!

We are barely scratching the surface as to why this story is applauded. There’s soo many episodes and moments that I know you are going to love and it’s really exciting being on your Vinland journey.
