Like the other guy said, not knowing the history aspect of the show does not make your enjoyment any worse. In fact it might even be better to not know anything beyond "Once upon a time, there were some vikings who invaded England..."

Don’t think you should worry too much about not being a ‘history buff’. This story with both the anime and manga do a really good job with giving you just enough that you can follow what is going on without prior knowledge. In fact it might even be better to not have that knowledge as you’ll just follow it as a story.
For myself I’m from the UK and have studied this period of history so I’m pretty knowledgeable with all this and yet Yukimura (the mangaka) managed to wow me with his story anyway! He blends HIS story with the real life events and people so very well

Not that it's a vital detail, because it is still alluding to the legend of King Arthur, but the sword in the stone is something different from Excalibur. Again, not an important detail, just a common misconception!
