I already knew Matt Smith was my favourite doctor but watching you experience him here for the first time just reinforces my love for him. He really is ‘the mad man with a box’ through and through. But what I really love about Matt is his ability to be ‘an old soul’ even if he is the youngest doctor we’ve seen. The Amy and Doctor scene at the end definitely divided fans. I’m very much in the camp that it was completely in character and actually a necessary scene to have for the narrative (although the actual kiss maybe not so much) but Amy has already been seen as flighty and flirty and this was kinda inevitable. I’m just thankful that it was portrayed as something casual for her. The main thing I really didn’t like about Tennant’s era was the romance and melodrama that happened a bit too much for me so I remember being kinda concerned with this scene when this aired. But thinking about it afterwards I could see why this scene is important. Also yes to Iain Glen’s scene! “You know me at my best” I quote this all time. It’s such a beautiful line

this era of DW is very dear to me. I remember watching it all as it was coming out when i was younger, so it's been excellent getting to re-experience it alongside you Im. top notch content as always ^^

Another top notch review - have been waiting all weekend for this! I'm just loving how you just 'get' this Doctor straight way - again it was interesting to hear your take on that last scene with Amy as I do remember a lot of people cringing over it at the time and Stephen Moffat actualy saying in hindsight it was the one thing that he would change looking back at his tenure. But your rationale of it makes it seem okay now - which is great! There's still plenty more geatness to come of course - made even better with your terrific insights which gives US a lot to look forward to as well. Thank you!

Yeah I don’t think it’s out of character for Amy but I do prefer when there isn’t a romance between the doctor and the companion (Donna is probably my favourite because of this) I love how on board you are with Matt Smith already, he handles the goofiness of the doctor really well, but he can do the serious moments and although he’s the youngest actor for the doctor, he’s really great at showing the age of the doctor, sometimes there’s this sadness and melancholy in his eyes that shows the doctors years, and he is filled with so much wisdom too

Those final lines between River and the Doctor in this episode are such a mood. "That's a fairytale./Aren't we all?" Magic.

I was honestly dreading the reaction to the final scene because after Rose and Martha, a lot of people did not want to ever see "romance" between the Doctor and his companions ever again. So I was worried that you would be annoyed by that scene. I should have known better: you perfectly understand the way Amy's character is being developed in this episode! (Personally when I first watched it I was hardcore into shipping it, but Eleven was also my first Doctor so I didn't have Rose/Martha baggage yet.)
