I cry uncontrollably everytime during the funeral. 😓

2022-08-20 20:15:37 +0000 UTCThe original Full Metal Alchemist anime had already animated these first episodes, Brotherhood kinda rushed through these initial episodes before it gets the the parts that the first series didn't animate. The pacing will improve extremely. I agree, I didn't feel anything for Hughs in brotherhood, but the original anime I felt that.

As subs are just that, translated subtitles, no wonder cryptic (to us) phrases aren't present as the original dialogue doesn't go that way. Localization can easily go quite far out. Maybe the people responsible for preparing the dub didn't like the cheesy and bit of a cliche line of "it's raining" when someone is trying to hide their tears and decided to be original. I dunno.

2022-08-20 15:52:59 +0000 UTCBecause this adaptation skipped some of the first chapters of the manga that were already adapted in the 2003 anime, we didn't have as much time to spend with Hughes as in the manga. The graveyard scene still kills me everytime. There is something so painful about the contrast of Elicia's innocence and the thoughts of the adults around.

I've recently been watching another show where I experienced a similar thing for a character. Now, I'm much like you that I am able to get very emotionally invested in a story and its characters, so sometimes it just feels weird when I don't feel sad over a character death; especially when the idea of their death is upsetting. I completely understand what you're getting at there!

2022-08-20 08:33:35 +0000 UTCI know the dub keeps getting brought up and it’s kinda tiring at this point, but it’s interesting to see how certain line deliveries change, “it’s a terrible day for rain” became iconic in this episode, but it’s not even in the sub. I’ve also noticed just in general, because you have to interpret lines and match them up to the mouth movements it can sometimes change the pacing of a scene, especially one with a twist or something, changing the impact sometimes.
