I am not gonna bitch about the subs or anything but in another version eren says : "there is no time to think if its right or wrong. Just act. I can't hope for a happy ending in a horror story". It gave me chills. Also when he says "the world is cruel" right before he transforms i think he is refering to the fact that he actually has to fight her. Thats why the wolrd he is living in is cruel.

2018-05-23 08:44:58 +0000 UTCEren as a character is very naive and this episode shows it very clearly. For him the world is very black and white. Titans vs Humans. Simple as that. To have someone he trained and formed a friendship with over the last 3 years betray him, it just seems so unreal to him. Just some trivia here: In the manga Eren transforms earlier than in the anime. Just after Mikasa says to him that this world is cruel and they don't have a choice, Eren agrees with her and transforms. The ensuing fight is also quite a bit different and Eren's "flaming" Titan also doesn't exist. The reason for this is probably because they wanted to make the finale a bit more exciting and have Season 1 end where it ended.
