It's a shame that Steins;Gate or Mob Psycho 100 didn't win, but I've been waiting for an excuse to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion, so guess I'll watch it with you!

I'm 90% sure he'll react to the 26 episodes and then tackle End of Evangelion. That seems pretty standard and I don't know why he'd deviate (other than him not wanting to do movies on the channel. But if anything we'll at least get a review for it since it's kind of important lol)

So excited for Evangelion! Arguably essential viewing for anyone who is a fan of not just animation, but all psychological media in general. I also sigh in relief for not having started a rewatch of it myself last year when I meant to. It seems the stars’ve aligned. Five(!) out of the six would’ve gotten a vote from me if the poll was multiple choice. I couldn’t just pick one, so my vote just sat on Mob, as I honestly thought it was going to sweep the whole thing due to popularity and recency bias. I am happy to be proven wrong, and also psyched to know that a diverse range of different types of series can, and will be, tackled on this channel in the future! The “niche poll” better have space for Ping Pong on it, or else… :watergun:

Man this was a crazy poll. I really wanted Mob to win but it’ll be cool to cover a classic. I’ve ONLY seen the new movies but not the original show. Idk if that’s heresy but I’m going to watch the show now so I can compare Violet Evergarden v Psycho Pass is gonna go hard in the niche poll lol

I'm really surprised Eva won. It'll be some months with great discussions. I'm just wondering if he will react to the movies, at least to The End Of Evangelion. It would be interesting if he reacts to the rebuilds as well but I guess that's asking for too much.

I did the same. Evangelion is my favorite show, but I know it doesn't really fit the reaction genre that well. However, I think its very fitting for Im, and I'm sure he can decrypt all the elements of the series.

This poll might go crazy on the last day, it will be interesting to see if people jump off of third place to vote for their second choice. I love mob so even though it brakes my heart to not vote for Violet Evergarden, I have to push for Mob, Though tbh, even if we let people vote for all the shows they wanted, I doubt Violet Evergarden would beat out the current top 3. I can only hope that, given how short it is (12 episodes + 2 movies), it will be picked up at one point

I think you would enjoy Jujutsu Kaisen quite a lot. Only one season and a movie is out now but season 2 is going to release this year. While not as detailed as something like AOT or vinland saga I personally feel that the way characters interact and the focus on introspection would be something you would enjoy. Not to mention if you liked chainsaw man you may like this show as well, they are compared to each other regarding the main trio of each show as well as the overall world/worldbuilding. Hopefully it may be on a poll soon.

Just checked in to see how this poll is doing and my goodness Eva and Mob are pretty neck and neck Both to be honest are great choices for you. Eva is what I personally call essential to a ‘anime education’ and it’s influence can not be overstated. It would be cool to have a 90’s show in your line up too and it’s been absolute forever for me since I saw Eva so it would be fun to revisit it with you. But I’m not gunna lie my number one pick for you in this poll is Mob Psycho. With Violet Evergarden being a second pick. The character work in Mob is sheer brillance and it’s honestly such a gem of a show. I think you would honestly dig it and knowing your sense of humour there is a main character in the story that you would absolutely adore. Not only that but it’s almost without question the most consistent anime from beginning to its very end production wise and that is soo incredibly rare in this industry. Honestly I’m just happy that Mob is pretty close and even if it doesn’t win this time I’m sure it will another time.

Welp I might have to finally watch Eva now. Also because I absolutely love Violet Evergarden, I have to ask that you don't disregard it because of the low votes. Since you can only choose one show, I am sure many people switched to other shows as soon as they saw they had a chance. For example, my fav on the list is Violet Evergarden, but I also REALLY like Mob Psycho, I would then consider switching to Mob because it is my second pick. In future I think it makes sense to let people vote for each and every show they would like to see, that way you can get a more accurate reading on how many people want to watch x show. If you think of it another way, 32% of people want you to watch Eva, but it is possible that 50% of people would want you to watch another show, they are just divided between other options. Alternatively, you could hide all the vote counts so people won't be inclined to switch off their favorite show. Just a suggestion, Keep up the good work!

I'm aware of all that stuff about Anno and while it sounds really interesting I unfortunately think the story and the characters suffer. Like as a study on Anno and his relationship to his work it's really really cool, that's true! I just don't think it was done well. It took all the parts I disliked about nge originally and amplified them by a hundred, creating this horrible monster out of my favorite series. I'd go into more detail but I don't want to start posting spoilers in case FILMBuFF reads this lol If he means to watch the rebuild movies I think he should watch them way later after watching The End of Evangelion and letting it sink in. I'd hate for him to dive straight into the rebuilds after it's over. BUT ultimately I'll be happy with the nge content! I'm not gonna die if he likes the rebuilds.

I will have to disagree. The rebuilds are in my opinion important to understand the relationship between the creator Hideaki Anno and its work. Even though a lot of people may not like some. I didn’t like the third rebuild for exemple and I found the first one useless. But at the very least, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time for exemple is one of the most important event of the cinema industry and japanese animation in 2021. It’s a monument. Hideaki Anno with this ultimate movie frees his characters, his spectators and above all, frees himself from a work with which he always has had a difficult relationship. Anno offers a complete and radical work with an aesthetic rarely equaled.

The anime series + The End of Evangelion movie is the best experience! The rebuilds were made WAAAAY later after the series already finished. They alter the story while also adding new stuff that I personally find useless. Your time is better spent on a different series at that point, but that's just my opinion.

I am so down for you to react to Monster even though Hunter x Hunter is my favorite one out of the three. I feel like HxH competing against Monster and HnI is unfair because HxH is way more popular. I may be surprised by the results but I am not sure

I would highly recommend to skip death & rebirth.. -The End of Evangelion : Alternative ending of the anime. It’s a remake of the last two episodes (25 and 26). I recommend to watch it -Then the Rebuild movies (I recommend to watch them all) : 1) Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone : The story adapts the first six episodes of the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series, and offers a new version of the original story. 2) Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance : It follows Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone. In the future you might want to consider doing a tiered poll (I don't think this is possible on patreon) or allow as many options as possible since single choice introduces some weird voting behavior. For example I wan't Violet Evergarden to win, but since it seems unlikely, I might end up changing my vote to EVA since I would prefer it to win over Mob, which is now in the lead. etc. This isn't a of course huge problem, we're gonna get a great reaction regardless, but just something to maybe think about.
