A comforting, intermediary episode with still quite a bit of depth. Your review helped me appreciate it (I was surprised at the time how much you enjoyed it, I vaguely remember you even sharing a frame of it on twitter of all three of them?), though I don't think my enthusiasm for this episode quite reaches yours. I still think some changes could be made, like the robot being a more unique villain, the death for this episode being more relevant or perhaps not happening at all (as the exterminator was a bit random, albeit makes more sense than the robots in 8x3), and I don't think the Doctor should've approved Danny by the end of the episode just for the sake of episodic catharsis. Letting the tension simmer would've made more sense for their dynamic. And I agree with you that I could do without the action-heavy scene culminating in Danny doing a backflip. Apparently they teach you gymnast-level acrobatics in the army. I liked and still do, the slice of life feeling and the montage with Clara trying to balance her two lives. The control freak nature perhaps told more than shown in Deep Breath comes out more naturally here, and "Freak shower... I said freak!" cracks me up every time. Been almost a decade so it's hard to remember, but at the time I believe I liked Danny Pink "checking" the Doctor this episode, though it was less from the nuanced balanced perspective you have and more of a lingering unfmailairity I had with Capaldi's incarnation.

2023-03-04 00:44:29 +0000 UTCI'm glad you like this episode, lots of people who don't like danny don't like this ep but even if you see his character as purely functional he functions very well to bring out certain aspects of doc/clara relationship. I think the scene in the tardis is very well written, paced and acted but the whole killer robot thing is just is purely functional. Lots of people don't like danny and though I wouldn't say I love him (he doesn't do anything to warrant great affection and that's fine) his reactions are grounded and realistic and he has some nice moments.
