Reaction Portion - Neon Genesis Evangelion | Episode 14 "SEELE, the Throne of Souls"

Comments

Finally here at the second half. I always associated that amazing shot of Rei with the duplicates of her cascading into infinity with this episode number, but I had forgotten how long that sort of psychological introspection sequence was. I didn't realize we got something like that this early, and it really doubles my appreciation of the structure of this show. Plus the recap right in the beginning of the second half too. It's very perfect. And I don't know if this was your first reaction back, or your last before the break, or maybe none of those, but the timing of the recap either way is very fitting in my opinion. Oh, and that Rei sequence is the first appearance of one of my absolute favorite tracks of this anime. I love that music.

I always find it amusing when people explain where that name comes from, but just say "he stabbed Jesus". Sounds like he was just poking him for fun lol He 'stabbed' him, to see if he was still alive, a common practice then by Romans at crucifixions. But in fact Jesus was already dead, but instead of blood only water flowed from the wound. That's why the lance became so significant in Christian relics.

The return of the king! I'm so glad to hop back aboard at this point of the reactions, though I'm a little late. It's wild that we're already at the second half of the show because it feels like most of what I remember about Eva is yet to come... Magic happens from this point onwards.

Ah yes, all according to the Dead Sea Scrolls. Those were deciphered in the 2000s, some years after this was made and didn't contain much of note. Fun real like conspiracy to use as a plot device though. At the end there we get a mention of "The Lance of Longinus". In Hebrew myth Longinus is a roman soldier who stabbed Jesus while he was on the cross.
