Early Access - HH27

Hey everyone,

So what are the thoughts on the the Blu-ray subs ?

Also, I'm not able to immediately check the comments for HH, because there's been potential spoiler talk in these sections, or comments that are spilling into what I consider spoiler territory.

any chance we’re still gonna get vinland this month ?

Small minority but crunchyroll subtitles are just better and those are the ones basically everyone uses? I find blu-ray very thin and wordy. Same thing happened with FMAB you had the "official" just doesn't sound good. Crunchy-subs uses fancier adjectives, better sentence structure, it's not "too literal" and no sync issues. (Also the preview episode image could be spoiler). I highly recommend subtitles change it's 10x better. As far as I remember all the iconic lines and phrases use the other subtitles.

Kon

(Potential spoiler?) I'm happy with the way the reveal of the power system is paced out throughout this arc rather than a giant info dump all at the start.

In the discussion you said we didn't get the master's name but we did, it's Wing

sonic

The only issue I'm having is syncing the Crunchyroll version to yours, because your version has extra bits at the intro and mid-episode card. Not a massive deal, but figured I'd mention it anyway since you're asking.

If you intend to watch the OP and the ED for Episode 28, knows that it showcase a lot of important characters designs. If you didn't watched already I recommend to not watch to.

SaIado

Not sure what the solution is, maybe have someone send you the comments worth reading (like pass them on to you), I think SOS bros used to do that for some shows

sonic

Yup the fandom tends to get overly excited and try to hint, would recommend absolutely staying away from comments.

It looks like the blue ray has eyecatchers which are "scenes or illustrations used to begin and end a commercial break in a Japanese television show". I had to resync because my copy didn't have the beginning eyecatcher of Killua.

Austin

ist das nicht verwirrend wenn er englisch redet aber du deutsche subs liest, beeindruckend tho

I'm synchronizing with the german subs and I have no problem with it, so all good there. Also we are finally through the first 26 episodes. No we can go full gas into HH. So excited for everything going forward

HxH in my experience is absolutely terrible in regards to overenthusiastic people constantly hinting at future events or "wait until you get to (x) arc", or "can't wait for you to get to episode (x). As someone who has watched the anime over a dozen times fully through it never fails. Better safe than sorry knowing that you're like me in what many people consider "over the top" in regards to any possible spoiler, in or out of context.

KaedenKing

Perhaps it is just me but I had trouble synchronising the reaction with the actual show footage. It always went unsynch after 5 minutes

It's fine, even too much effort at a certain point. It's funny how English translation conveys much more information than a native Japanese person would understand from watching this episode. Yes, the "Ren, Nen, Hatsu" stuff. The explanation Zushi dishes out to be exact. The thing is, a lot of characters can be read in the exact same way. For example, if I were to type in "shi" in my phone, the conversion program will show me over 160 (!) different characters for me to choose from. Yes, I went ahead and did a rough count just now lol. They all mean different things but are (or can be) read as "shi". Which is also a word depending on which character you're using. So. Back to the episode. Zushi talking about "training your shin to alleviate your shin" and saying things like "this is all yontaigyo" makes 0 sense unless you can see it in written form. (Even in written form yontaigyo is "four big lines/things to do" so it's kinda hard to understand that it means principles in this case. Oh, and it is a word the author made up, so that doesn't help either.) I believe in manga the author deliberately used katakana (the phonetic writing system, not the characters with meaning) for that speech so the readers can feel for themselves just how confusing he is to Gon and Killua. How confusing is the "shin" for example? Well, I just got over 110 (!) characters suggested to me on my phone when I typed it. Yeah. So just hearing "shin" this and "shin" that would be utterly confusing. What did subs do? They went ahead and gave correct translation of the things Zushi was trying to say. Because translators already know what in the world are those "shin", "ren", "yontaigyo" etc. PS: If in some anime/manga you encounter a character asking "how do you write that", that doesn't mean they're struggling with writing and want to know how to spell things. No. They're asking because they did not understand a certain word which sounds exactly like a bunch of others but doesn't make sense in the context. So, they're asking for the characters one would use in writing to surmise the meaning of the word from the meaning of the characters.

I mean, it is somewhat different to the Crunchyroll subs. But it isn’t drastic enough where the meaning of what’s being said is affected. So I think you’re all good to continue using the blu ray

It’s unfortunate that you won’t be able to read the comments but it’s for the better (at least for now) i am not sure if it’s just a wave of new comers or what but I’ve noticed a few people getting a little too comfortable hinting at future stuff, though i don’t think they mean to spoil they probably just don’t realize that for you it’s a big no no 🤷🏻‍♀️

Some lines are translated differently compared to Crunchroll but I’m like 80% sure the blu ray actually has the more accurate translation. The changes have all been like extremely minor though. So far I’ve been watching along with the crunchyroll version and nothing has been translated so differently as to warrant pointing out. Most of the time the lines are the exact same too.
