End of Evangelion Question

So I transferred the End of Evangelion portion from the Blu-ray, and it’s showing a runtime of 2 hours+
That’s certainly a bit longer than I was expecting, is this the actual runtime ? Or something else is included with it ?

There's two director's cut of the show (Don't worry, you watched the most updated one), and there's four versions of the Death/Rebirth content. I would personally recommend avoiding it and just watching The End of Evangelion. For one, the recap could fatigue you before getting ready for the movie experience (but if you know what works for you and it would revitalize your interest then dismiss this), but more importantly there's a chance that it contains scenes from the movie. Here's a summary: • Two Evangelion films, "Death" and "Rebirth" were released in between the TV series and the movie as precursors to The End of Evangelion • Death contained a recap of the series, over an hour long, with not much to offer beyond a couple additional scenes and re-editing • Rebirth contained a small snippet of EoE content to hold people over until its full release • "Death(True)" re-edited Death • "Death(True)²" then re-re-edited Death, and I believe is the one you have now So I'm 99% thinking that the Blu-ray (and the Netflix version which seems to be the same as yours) alike don't have any of Rebirth's content but I'm wary to say for sure and would like for someone to confirm this because I'm not certain. Once confirmed I'll delete my comment because it means nothing, but the question is on if the blu-ray contains Rebirth content or not. If this is the case you can just watch the whole thing and I suppose stop before the film. Or if you're using an MKV editor to get the content maybe you can see the individual chapters where the movie actually starts and just go from there?

2023-11-02 23:51:12 +0000 UTCThis is a difficult question to answer without spoiling aspects of the format of Evangelion's endings and how they came about. Particularly with relation to the "director's cut" episodes 21-24, there's some information that would help you understand what all this means after you've watched End of Evangelion but before you do your deep-dive review. If your EoE video will be very different to your TV reactions anyway, have you considered making a post once you've watched the film and written down your initial thoughts for people to give you any contextualising information that might help your underatanding of these latter portions of the show re: the production, the format etc.? A lot of this concerns this semi-recap semi-preview "Death & Rebirth" you might have heard about by now. Mild format spoilers below. Really unsure how much to say without spoiling meta- aspects of your first watch but suffice to say your 2+ hour blu-ray copy may incorporate parts of "Death & Rebirth" depending on the exact source you used. If the first title card you see that isn't a company logo says "This is the way Evangelion: Death was meant to be seen" in red Japanese text you have a version called "Revival Of Evangelion" that most (not all) would consider unnecessary if you have seen the Director's Cut episodes, which you have.
