Nen appears on screen for the exact same reason that people appear on screen. Someone who is color blind may lack the ability to perceive certain colors whilst looking at a video, but that doesn't mean those colors aren't there.

The question of whether you can percieve it is up to your senses, and whether you can percieve it while IN is active is up to your mastery of Gyo. Things that film would not follow the mechanics of because it's just a vehicle, perhaps.

2023-11-05 11:55:45 +0000 UTCI never gave much thoughts to nen being on film, no break of immersion here for me I guess. But thinking about it does brings up some interesting questions. Regarding the exposition last episode, I feel like it indeed was too much when paired with Wing's lesson on Gyo here. The part of the talk with pink haired girl about nen threads doesn't really have a point in the first place, more so when it's better presented here with an educational lens (>ha). Though I wouldn't scrape the whole talk last episode either since it did give us some unique insight regarding the name and origins of Bungee Gum and Texture Surprise. In a completely unrelated topic, whenever I see Killua in this outfit Twice's "I'm like TT" plays in my head (and I'm so sorry if I pass it on lol).

2023-11-05 10:53:04 +0000 UTCiirc either in manga or older anime version there was mentioned that Hisoka fight they were watching was recorded via special nen cameras and that's why they could see nen through the screen. It still seems like a bit of bs to me ngl but at least it's somewhat of an explanation. And since nen has almost limitless possibilities you can very well fill in the details how it works yourself if you want to. Or call bs on that if you think it's too ridiculous.
