First time commenting on here, but been having such a great time rewatching HxH through these reactions along with picking up new things from your thoughts as always, so really appreciate it! Also I do think the tone shift issue has at least partly something to do with the actual chapters in the manga being shorter and independent of one another, so an episode of the anime naturally has to stitch chapters together for that 23 minutes which can make one half of the episode differ a lot from the other.
