I am disappointed in the narrator not letting you infer things naturally sometimes; unfortunately the way the narrator end-pieces are written the audience is sometimes assumed to not be deeply invested in the story. It is a great shame since most other shonen with the same type of demographic don't ever do this, so it can feel like a bit of a slap in the face at certain points.

Love that you talked about how nonchalant Gon is about the "power imbalance" as you put it, in his and killuas friendship. Its played off as a kind of comedic and endearing thing, which it also is, but I'm glad you noticed the 😬 behind it too. (I mean of course you did haha!!)

Amber

A lot of defending the narrator in the comments but I just can’t agree bro.Even if this is for teens it shouldn’t be spelling it out this much. Just the the story unfold. I don’t mind the narrator, but let’s not lie here people. It’s a common complaint on why people don’t like the arc.

One of these days filmbuff is going to start ignoring the narrator😂

The spoiler comment is gone

sonic

That's a shame :(

C&C

I doubt he's that many episodes ahead. At most 1-3 if I had to guess.

Zach

Not sure if you’ll read this or if someone can convey but I’d stay away from your YouTube comments as well if you weren’t already.

Ves

I’ve been told that spoilers were posted in here.

I don't know which lines are anime added tbh. He doesn't either. It may very well be that the ones he didn't like were indeed anime added since they seemed to him as redundant and over-explaining. You can take it as holding viewer's hand but maybe it's the other way around and it's like 'we all know it's a special moment and special person that's gonna contribute to much needed inevitable Meruem's development, so let's not beat around the bush and pretend like we don't know for sure wether it's gonna happen or not. It's gonna happen'. It's not the point either way, HOW it's gonna happen is what really matters.

KotBegemot

I think he wasn't talking about this version of the manga narrator, but about his expanded anime version with extra lines. In fact he even pointed it out in review.

I don't know, I'm biased since I usually don't care about spoilers especially when the story, like HxH in this arc for example, is more focused on exploring themes and characters rather than actual plot and action. To me vaguely knowing about certain plot points beforehand in those kind of stories is such a no big deal, moreso I think it's kinda the point when author feels the need to point that out and bring it home. Like in Chimera Ant arc narrator is omnicient storyteller that adds epic to the events he's describing. It adds more feel of some ancient Greek epic tragedy and maybe a bit of Shakespeare drama with some added pathos. But I'm also a fan of certain stories (like Monogatari Series) where author deliberately tells his story out of chronological order and often 'spoils' the endings and fates of some characters beforehand in his narration, and I learnt to appreciate that because it's not the point. It's all about thematic relevance and exploring the characters. But I understand that it's not for everybody.

Initially, I didn't like the narrator when I first saw HunterXHunter, but now I have a positive opinion of him. The narrator is a complex situation that can easily be loved or hated by people

Manga furie

I love the narator so i know i am very biased. But I kind of love it when a story does this. It is a very clasic way of story telling(and happens a lot in anime). I would not even really call it a spoiler. To me it builds a mood and gets me excited for more eppisodes. But I can see why people don't like it. I have watched a lot of reactions to this anime. And for most people it really gets them excited. In my experience only really smart people that are super tuned in to a show, or people who know a lot about story telling or writing stories. Dont like this kind of foreshadowing. Anyway I am pretty sure this is the last time it is this "bad"

Wolf Hunter

I really enjoy narrators in general so I'm always a bit surprised to see controversy about them. They can absolutely cross a line in sharing too much but I never felt HxH's narrator does so. The line about Kite and the one here are both going "Hey, here is the tone we're setting, now watch their fates unfold.". It just works for me.

I just realized i missed ep101 lol whoops now i got two to watch

Jonathan baez

Thanks for another review, enjoyed this one!

C&C

I like when the narrator chimes in to give exposition on something that would otherwise be a bit awkward for the characters to explain themselves. For example, the way ones nen abilities should be explained should be: 1.By the enemy trying to figure it out 2.By the character, whether explaining or correcting point 1. 3.By the narrator Having the narrator overlap with 1 and 2 just makes for pointless input.

Zach

I very much understand your view about the narrator in this episode Rather then specifically for younger viewers, i think this might be more targeted towards your 'average viewer'. Which probably makes up the majority of who watches the show. The kind that engages with the show inconsistently, or only with half a mind while they're having a meal or something. Or that just doesn't (possibly understandably) have media literacy good enough to be able to read between the lines For you, that has a channel dedicated to discussing and analysing shows (or us Patreons, invested in seeing you do so), something like that comment the narrator made isn't needed I could see however how 100+ episodes in, it could be important for your average Joe to need some narrator clarification to 'buy in' on a character like this being introduced Doesn't make it less annoying of course, but i can swallow it as long it doesn't outright start to spoil stuff

C&C

This just had to be the thumbnail So excited to hear your thoughts on all the upcoming episodes

Miss Mewiththat

I don't think the narrator is that big of a deal, honestly. Its a very simple statement that doesn't really change anything or linger that long.

Shazam!

Yeah I don't like the narrator saying that at the end. Thankfully, this is the last time where it's a bit egregious.

9am for me haha

Sloopgamer

I’m working on getting it to a point where it would release around 12/1pm my time, that would probably cover most places in the world for same day release. Step by step.
