It might be useful before or after the operation is completed but not while he's inside the palace since he would be an easy target. Most likely he was applying In to hover around the palace while being undetected.

It's not a concept that has been fully explored as of this point but both Kurapika and Hisoka used it to hide objects against nen users but it's not like Knov is invisible. Instead if he were using Zetsu then he wouldn't be able to use his own hatsu and actually SEE Pouf's aura, or run head straight into a level 1 ant. I don't think his mental condition would allow for that but instead with In he can remain hidden and drop bits of aura when necessary so the ants never know he was there. A lot of people have this misconception that Knov came in contact with Pouf's aura in Zetsu and that's why he had a panic attack but this never happened. He simply understood by experience the magnitude of what he was faced against which takes us back to what he said to Killua. "Humans tend to lose perspective when they encounter the unknown" in other words his mind surrendered. So you're spot on in your analysis on why Knov broke down but not Gon or Killua. Morel was even praising Gon for wanting to attack the enemy back in episode 85 but we know this was more of a shock, anger, and blindside reaction.

I don't remember when it was stated but if anyone could use In on themselves it would be a very similar ability to Meleoron and I feel like a lot of people would have used it up to this point. I mean yeah, people could counter it with Gyo but especially if you deal with a lot of nobodys I feel like a lot of strong people would have used that ability

2024-09-18 08:02:51 +0000 UTCI'm kind of surprised on your question of what kind of technique Knov used during this sneak attempt. Cause what exactly is Knov supposed to be hiding, himself? But he gets seen by that one ant despite activating In so that's something that doesn't add up to me and that's why I'm believing it is Zetsu. I'm aware that the ant also could use Gyo to unveil the In from Knov but most of the times when it was kinda important we got a visual representation of the activation of Gyo

One thing to keep in mind with Knov’s collapse is the fact that, you touched on it a bit, he was likely in a state of zetsu. If you remember in heavens arena, being exposed to intense aura without having a protective aura shield can have debilitating consequences. And evidently, aura as malicious and sinister as the royals guards’ could break even the most veteran of Nen practitioners without protective aura. Even just seeing it up close. That explains a bit why his breakdown was so monumental. Edit: Just as an aside, unless I'm mistaken, In only works on the Nen that is outputted, not the Nen user. Zetsu I believe is quite literally turning off your own aura to conceal your presence, much like Gon did accidentally while tailing Hisoka.
